Robert Campbell
Robert L. Campbell, 85, of 247 S. Locust died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mr. Campbell was born
Aug. 23, 1914, to Lafe and Jessie (Whitehead) Campbell at Grand Island. He attended Grand Island Public Schools.
He married Helen Fox on April 23, 1943, at Fullerton. He owned and operated Campbell's Grocery for more than 60 years. After selling the business, he worked at Dreisbach's Steak House as a meat cutter. Mrs. Campbell died on July 14, 1999.
Survivors include one brother, William of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and one sister, Lorraine Mehring of Columbus.
Clara VanArsdale
Clara Null VanArsdale, 106, of Grand Island, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Mrs. VanArsdale was cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Wichita, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or Stuhr Museum.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. VanArsdale was born
Aug. 27, 1893, in Cullison, Kan. She grew up in Pratt, Kan., and attended Mount Carmel Academy in Wichita, Kan.
She married Leone Bontz VanArsdale in February 1916. He died in 1965. Mrs. VanArsdale moved to Grand Island in 1969 where she has lived since.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Peppy (Mrs. Norman) Bahr of Grand Island, and W. Van Wolbach of Kansas City, Mo., and three great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty (Mrs. S.N.) Wolbach, one sister and two brothers.
Evelyne Wit
Evelyne J. Wit, 80, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the family home at 4965 Fort Kearney Road. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Her body was donated to the Nebraska Anatomical Board.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wit was born
April 16, 1919, to Lawrence and Etta Mae (Johnson) Loft at Elba. She attended school in Ord and graduated from Ord High School in 1936. She then worked for Ord Variety Store.
She married Henry Wit on June 19, 1940, at Ord. He died in 1998.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Just Us Girls Extension Club and served as a den mother for Boy Scouts.
She has been in ill health since 1958. Prior to that, she enjoyed dancing, bowling and playing bridge.
Survivors include one son, Erik of Nazareth, Pa.; one daughter, Mary Susan Beaver of Grand Island; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Eldon Loft of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary; three brothers, Norval, Raynard and Larry Loft and three sisters, Edna Brooks, Joy Elstermeier and Elfie Bernice Loft.
Leonard Czaplewski
LOUP CITY -- Leonard J. Czaplewski, 77, of Loup City died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald Urban will officiate.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 48 and VFW Post 7027, both of Loup City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.
Memorials may be made at the family's choice.

Mr. Czaplewski was born
March 15, 1922, on the family farm east of Loup City to Joseph and Pauline Mendyk Czaplewski. He attended District 45 rural school and also Loup City High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe from October 1942 to January 1946. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts.
He married Ruby McKnight Kriewald on Feb. 12, 1946, in Loup City. The couple lived in Loup City their entire married life.
Mr. Czaplewski owned and operated Czaplewski Construction for 40 years. He was also the civil defense director of Sherman County, a weather reporter for the National Weather Service and also taught hunter safety for 25 years.
He was a gunsmith, an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer and in 1998 shot a hole in one.
Mr. Czaplewski was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 48, VFW Post 7027, the DAV, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Loup City Country Club and the Sherman County Historical Society of which he was president and also had been a past president.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve of Hampton, Marty of Kearney and Mike of Hastings; three daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Ernie) Scarrow and Linda (Mrs. Phil) Badura, both of Kearney and Kathy (Mrs. Jim) Sweeney of Loup City; one brother, John of Loup City; two sisters, Magdeline Dymek and Angeline Bonczynski, both of Grand Island; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents, one granddaughter and two brothers, Joseph and Sylvester.
Erma Lantzer
STROMSBURG -- Erma Lantzer, 91, of Stromsburg, formerly of Aurora, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Aurora. The Rev. Heung-Gyu Kim will officiate. Burial will be in Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Higby Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Lantzer was born
June 24, 1908, to Harvey and Lora (Garwood) Lantzer north of Aurora. The family moved to a farm at Ansley in 1924. She graduated from Ansley High School in 1926. The family moved back to Aurora in 1933.
She worked at Douglas Market for 15 years. After her father's death in March 1945, she and her mother lived together. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1951 to be near her brother, Cecil Lantzer, who died in 1973. Her mother died in 1961.
While living in Colorado, she did clerical and office work until she retired. She returned to Aurora in August 1979 to be near her sister, Neta Cline, and old friends. Her sister died in 1988.
She was a past member of Salem Evangelical Church, United Methodist Church in Ansley, United Brethren Church in Aurora and current member of United Methodist Church in Aurora.
She also was a member of the church's Mary Ruth and Dorcas circles, SOS Church and Crossroads Birthday Club, in which she had various offices.
Mabel Wentz
CAIRO -- Mabel E. Wentz, 66, of Cairo died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at her home in Cairo.
Services were Saturday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. J.L. Jones officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to the Cairo Senior Center or the Immanuel Baptist Church in Grand Island.
Mrs. Wentz was born
April 5, 1933, to Ray and Buela (Brundage) Post at St. Michael. She grew up in St. Michael and Dannebrog. She graduated from Dannebrog High School.
She married James Wentz in 1956 in Missouri. The couple lived in Omaha and then moved to various communities in central Nebraska before settling in Cairo in 1977. She was employed by the Cairo Senior Center.
She was a member of the Cairo Senior Center and attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Grand Island and First Baptist Church in Cairo.
She enjoyed crafts and reading.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn and Steve, both of Plattsmouth and Ray Lee of Weeping Water; four daughters, Roxanne Jacobson of Plattsmouth, Betty Kent of Loveland, Colo., Alicia Gracey of DeSota, Mo., and RieLynn Trost of Yutan; one sister, Hazel Nielsen of St. Paul; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Allen and William; and two grandchildren.
Clareta Ita
COLUMBUS -- Clareta E. Ita, 91, of Columbus died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Schuyler Nursing Center in Schuyler.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus. The Rev. Mike Neely will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Scotia.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus with a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Ita was born
May 31, 1908, to Darwin B. and Sarah E. (McMurrin) Peck at Palmer.
She married Harry Ita on Feb. 22, 1928, at Palmer. They farmed in Greeley County until moving to Central City. She was a homemaker. In 1978, she moved to Columbus.
She was active in the church and Bible study. She also enjoyed painting, gardening and her music.
Survivors include a son, Wendell Ita of Bellwood; a daughter, Karen (Mrs. Vern) Sandy of St. Charles, Mo.; three sisters, Viola (Mrs. Ervin) Eckstrom of Palmer, Iva Freeland of Carthage, Mo., and Arlene (Mrs. George) Steinke of Central City; three brothers, Delane Peck of Palmer, Delmon Peck of Tilden and Oliver Peck of Walker, Mo.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978 and a daughter, Melinda Mae Ita.
Janet McCleary
VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -- Janet McCleary, 79, of Valley Center, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Las Villas Del Norte Care Center in Escondido, Calif.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Arcadia City Cemetery. The Rev. David Stipp will officiate.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McCleary was born
May 3, 1920, to William and Mary (Thompson) Lindsey at Farmington, Ill. She grew up and attended school in Peoria, Ill. She graduated from Manual High School.
She married Maynard "Mac" McCleary on June 22, 1940. The couple lived in Lincoln, Ill.; St. Paul, Minn.; Aberdeen, S.D.; and Eau Claire, Wisc. for the next 15 years. They moved back to Black River Falls, Wisc., in 1965, living there for 23 years. She worked as a medical record technician.
The couple retired in 1977, and traveled extensively before settling in Indio, Calif. They moved to Valley Center, Calif., in 1988, living there until her death.
She had been president of Skyline Village County Club's ladies club at Valley Center and a past member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael and Jeffrey, both of Nashville, Ill.; two daughters, Cathlein Guthrie of Irvine, Calif., and Patricia Sefton of Libertyville, Ill.; four grandchildren and one brother, William Lindsey of Glendale, Ariz.
