Keith Barker
SARGENT -- Keith Barker, 33, of Sargent died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, as the result of an industrial accident in Clovis, Calif.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with the Rev. Marty Robbins officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Sargent.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Barker was born
Aug. 20, 1966, to Larry and Alma (Daughterty) Barker at Albion. He attended grade school in Nebraska and finished his high school years in Wyoming and Colorado. He graduated from Phoenix Tech School in Arizona and returned to Nebraska and worked for various farmers in the Loup City area. He then moved to Broken Bow where he lived for four years.
He married Wanda Boyce Oct. 23, 1993, in Broken Bow. In 1994, he moved his family to Sargent. He started driving a milk truck for Stardem and later drove a cattle truck. He was presently employed by Mark Nolan Trucking out of Spencer.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Joshua, Laci, Laura and Brandon; his parents of Loomis; one brother, Roger of Broken Bow; and two sisters, Brenda Leverington of Broken Bow and Cyndie Ralls of Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Patricia Chisholm
BROKEN BOW -- Patricia Chisholm, 65, of Broken Bow died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Burial will be in the Dale Catholic Cemetery near Merna. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
Mrs. Chisholm was born
Aug. 18, 1934, in the Dale Valley community in Custer County to Frank and Mary (Teahon) McCarty. She attended country school, and graduated from Merna High School in 1952. She later attended Kearney State College, and taught for two years at Eureka Valley and Ravenna grade school.
She married Duane Dixon in 1956, in Mullen. They farmed in the Eureka Valley community until Mr. Dixon's death in 1961.
She married Doug Chisholm in February of 1976.
Mrs. Chisholm worked as a dietitian at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow for 14 years, and as a jailer and cook at the Custer County Sheriff's office for 14 years. She retired in June of 1997, and became a member of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in April of 1999.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
She enjoyed collecting porcelain figurines and scenic country photographs.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. Rod) Erickson of Kearney, Debbie (Mrs. Gary) Coble of Broken Bow and Roberta (Mrs. Alan) Becker of Blue Springs, Mo.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Bernice McCarty of Broken Bow.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Francis; five sisters, Helen, Mary, Shirley, Vera and Burnadette; and a grandchild.
Lonnie George
ARCADIA -- Lonnie J. George, 41, of Arcadia died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Graveside memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Arcadia City Cemetery. The Rev. Heidi Revelo will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Miss George was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the March of Dimes or the Arcadia Fire and Rescue Squad.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Miss George was born
on Nov. 24, 1958, at Cheyenne, Wyo., to Harland "Jay" and Leah (Ewing) George. As a child, she moved with her family to Federal Way, Wash. She attended Federal Way public schools and graduated from Decatur High School in 1976.
She moved with her family to Arcadia in 1977. She worked as a nurse's aide in Omaha and later at Sandhills Manor Nursing Home in Broken Bow. She also worked at the Lobby in Broken Bow until her health forced her to stop working.
She was born
with Homocystinuria, a genetic disorder. She loved working with the elderly and children and enjoyed cooking and buying gifts for her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her parents, of Arcadia; and five sisters, Sarah (Mrs. Joe) Little of Nunda, N.Y., Sandra (Mrs. Lance) Smith of Buckley, Wash., Melody (Mrs. Ron) Hodges of Treynor, Iowa, Cathy (Mrs. Lonnie) Rech of Davey and Donna (Mrs. Brian) Warner-Taylor of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harland and Alice George and Walter and Verna Ewing.
Amelia Miller
HASTINGS -- Amelia Miller, 90, of Lancaster Manor in Lincoln and formerly of the Kensington in Hastings died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Lancaster Manor.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Brand-Wilson Chapel in Hastings. The Rev. Gregory Volzke will officiate. Burial will be in the Juniata Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday at Wilson-Brand Mortuary.
Memorials will be established.
Mrs. Miller was born
Dec. 11, 1909, at Longmont, Colo., to William and Katherine (Deines) Bruntz. She married Alois Miller. He died in 1991.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church near Prosser.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Traudt of Lincoln, five grandchildren and one-great grandchild.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald, and several brothers.
Katherine Novotny
ST. EDWARD -- Katherine Frances Novotny, 86, of St. Edward died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Cloverlodge Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist/Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Revs. Kenn Leischner and Edward Gill will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Levander Funeral Home in St. Edward.
Mrs. Novotny was born
April 20, 1913, to Harry and Martha (Sinnard) Padden at Albion. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in St. Edward in 1938. She attended rural schools in Boone County. The family moved to Fremont and she attended school there. Following her father's death, the family returned to the Akron area in Boone County.
She married Roy Zabka on Feb. 14, 1927, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Albion in the Akron community. She worked as a housekeeper in the Vorhees Valley, north of St. Edward. Mr. Zabka died in January 1935.
She married Louis Novotny on June 7, 1939, at Lincoln. They lived in the Vorhees Valley and in 1941 they moved to St. Edward. She worked as a homemaker and a geriatric aide at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward for many years. Mr. Novotny died in July 1996.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Delores Zabka (Mrs. Ronald) Jacoby of Charleston, S.C., Nellie Zabka (Mrs. Warren) Donaldson of Wichita, Kan., Mary Lou Novotny (Mrs. Daryll) Raitt of Hartsburg, Mo., and Deanna Novotny (Mrs. Bill) Moran of St. Edward; three stepdaughters, Darlene Novotny (Mrs. Laurel) Fletcher of Tucson, Ariz., Marilyn Novotny (Mrs. Curt) Lind and Patty Novotny (Mrs. Dale) Roberts, both of Omaha; 26 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Other than her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Earl Novotny in June 1994; a daughter, Doris Ball; two brothers, Frank and Albert Padden; a sister, Tacy Lyons; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one stepgreat-granddaughter and one stepgreat-grandson.
Edna Schillo
BURWELL -- Edna M. Schillo, 89, of Burwell died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at the Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services are pending with Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Marge Uzendoski
FULLERTON -- Marge Uzendoski, 59, of Fullerton died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at her home.
Services are pending with Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.
Everett Blender
YORK -- Everett E. Blender, 74, of York, formerly of Benedict, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Arborville Congregational Church near Polk. The Rev. Lester Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Arborville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Metz Mortuary in York. Memorials are suggested to the church or family.
Mr. Blender was born
Aug. 14, 1925, to William and Lydia (Smith) Blender in rural York County. He attended school until eighth grade.
He married Helen Bush on Dec. 8, 1952, at Grand Island. He was a farmer near Benedict.
He was a member of Arborville Congregational Church near Polk, where he served as a trustee. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kent of Benedict; one daughter, Marcia of Lincoln; two grandchildren; one brother, William "Bill" of Polk and two sisters, Marie (Mrs. Francis) Doremus of Polk and Virginia Werth of York.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
DeAnn Weeks
WAVERLY -- DeAnn Weeks, 49, of Waverly died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Scotia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia.
There will be no visitation.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas Grof
TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. -- Thomas Nolan Grof, 79, of Truth or Consequences, N.M., died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home.
Services will be on Saturday morning at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Truth or Consequences. Burial will be at a later date in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Tecumseh.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Grof was born
on Sept. 24, 1920, to Thomas J. and Josephine (Farley) Grof. He was a farmer most of his life and retired in 1990. He spent his winters in Truth or Consequences.
He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tecumseh and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Truth or Consequences. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Andrew's Home and School Association in Tecumseh, the Elks Club in Truth or Consequences and the Eagles Club in Imperial.
He enjoyed the outdoors, walking, traveling, reading, playing cards, bingo and going to museums. His favorite football teams were the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; a son, Thomas Ray of Tecumseh; a daughter, Ann Marie of Imperial; and a sister, Frances Schmidt of Tecumseh.
He was preceded in death by two sons, William and Donald; and a brother, Joseph.
David Boroff Jr.
David Boroff Jr., 17, of Grand Island died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church with the Revs. William Voelker and John Kunze officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
He was born
on May 18, 1982, at Grand Island to David Sr. and Paula (Hulme) Boroff. He grew up in Alda, Wood River and Grand Island. He attended kindergarten in Alda and then attended Dodge Elementary School in Grand Island. He continued his education at Barr Junior High and was a senior at Grand Island Senior High.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed baseball, junior bowling and spending time with his friends.
Survivors include his parents, of Grand Island; one sister, Krystal Boroff of Grand Island; maternal grandparents, Tom and Gala Hulme of Shelton; maternal great-grandparents, Cecil and Evelyn Hulme of Grand Island and Sheldon Williams of Anadarko, Okla.; paternal grandparents, Jim and Darlene Boroff of Wood River; and a paternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Eickhoff of Wood River.
He was preceded in death by a maternal great-grandmother, two paternal great-grandfathers and one paternal great-grandmother.
