Rev. Bernhardt Meschke
FARIBAULT, Minn. -- The Rev. Bernhardt F. Meschke, 81, of Faribault, Minn., formerly of Hampton, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Faribault. The Revs. Richard Wilkie, Paul Philp and O.H. Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Morristown, Minn.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
The Rev. Meschke was born
on Aug. 7, 1918, at Morristown, Minn., to William and Emilie (Neubauer) Meschke. He was educated in Morristown and graduated from Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn., in 1939. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in May 1944 with a master of divinity degree.
His vicarage year was spent at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Pine Lawn, Mo., where he served as principal/teacher of the Christian day school.
He was ordained on July 23, 1944. He served at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk from July 1951 to October 1961. He served as associate pastor and later as senior pastor of Immanuel Lutheran in Columbus. He last pastorate was at St. Peter's in Hampton from February 1977 until his retirement in June 1984.
After moving to Faribault, he was visitation pastor at Peace Lutheran Church until July 1999. During his 40 years in Nebraska, he served as district secretary for 25 years and received the Crest of Christ award from Concordia College in Seward in May 1983.
He married Juanita Phipps on Nov. 4, 1945, in St. Louis.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Lillian (Mrs. Karl) Meyer and Joan Brackett, both of Hamlin, N.Y., Lois (Mrs. Robert) Espeland of Denver and Virginia (Mrs. Patrick) McGill of Omaha; one son, the Rev. Mark Meschke of Collinsville, Ill.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and one sister, Dora Schroeder of Morristown.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Erna Vollbrecht and one infant sister; and two brothers, William and Herbert.
Christena Rodocker
PALATKA, Fla. -- Christena Rodocker, 92, formerly of Brewster, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka, Fla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Brewster with the Rev. Tim Pearson officiating. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Rodocker was born
on Oct. 1, 1907, at Walnut, Iowa, to Charles and Viola Rose (Stillman) Powers.
She married Fred Rodocker on Oct. 25, 1930, at Chadron. During World War II, they lived in northern Idaho, where he worked in lead mines. After the war, they moved to South Dakota, where he worked for Homestake Gold Mine. They moved to Brewster, where he operated a car repair garage and propane business. He died on Jan. 3, 1987. She had lived in Florida for 13 years.
Survivors include one son, DeVern Rodocker of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Delores Martin of Palatka, Fla.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Marcile Perrin Reid
DECORAH, Iowa -- Marcile L. Perrin Reid, 86, of Decorah, Iowa, died Dec. 23, 1999, in Decorah.
A memorial service was on Dec. 27 in Decorah.
Memorials are suggested to the Decorah Public Library, designated for the Big Print Collection; Grace Episcopal Church; the Winneshek County Memorial Hospital Foundation; and the Luther College Fine Arts Center.
Fjelstul Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Reid was born
on Aug. 6, 1913, to Emil and Mae Ruth (Johnson) Isaacson of Scandia, Kan. She graduated from Scandia High School in 1929 and earned her nursing degree from Research Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo.
She married Halford G. Perrin on Oct. 6, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., and lived there until 1946. She lived in Omaha between 1946 and 1974. She served as executive director of the Nebraska Epilepsy League between 1969 and 1974. She was a member of the National Advisory Council for Disabilities, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and the National Committee on Technical Assistance to State Developmental Disabilities Councils.
She was committed to volunteer service and also was active in the Omaha Community Theater, Omaha Symphony, Joslyn Art Museum and Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital.
After her husband's death in 1974, she moved to Decorah, Iowa, to be close to other family members.
She married Hale C. Reid on Nov. 12, 1983.
Survivors include her daughter, Christina Perrin (Mrs. William) Moorcroft of Decorah, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her sister, Alice Clark of Grand Island.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, James; her stepdaughter, Mary Dell; her brother, Emil Isaacson; and a sister, Elda Staver Popiel.
Rose McDonald
Rose B. McDonald, 101, of Grand Island, formerly of Wood River, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to Rose McDonald Scholarship or Kaspar-Kastl Scholarship Fund.
McDonald was born
April 15, 1898, to Charles and Barbara (Kaspar) Kastl at Malmo. She graduated from Prague High School and attended University of Nebraska, where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught math and English, and coached basketball at Boelus High School.
She married Guy Richard McDonald on June 1, 1921. They farmed in Howard and Sherman counties, moving to Hall County where they farmed near Wood River for 50 years.
She was a supporter of women's rights and marched in the Women's Suffrage Movement of 1919. She remained active in the Democratic Party as a poll worker.
She was a founding member of American Legion Auxiliary in Boelus, charter member of XL Extension Club, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Wood River and its altar society, and Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society.
She served as a 4-H leader in Hall County for 45 years. She was recognized by the 4-H Council for many years of leadership and service.
Survivors include four sons, Charles of Grand Island, Richard of Camp Verde, Ariz., Francis of Phillips and Joseph of Tulsa, Okla.; three daughters, Joan Muhvic of Phillips, Barbara (Mrs. Jay) Lutey of Omaha and Patricia Cannizzaro of Columbia, S.C.; 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Cally Swanson
Cally Bonnie L. Swanson, 65, of Grand Island died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Dwayne Bennett will officiate. Mrs. Swanson was cremated. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Children's Home.
Mrs. Swanson was born
Jan. 9, 1934, to Ernest and Dora (Wrehe) Schumann at Omaha. She attended school in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1952. She then attended beauty school in Fremont.
She married Rodney T. Swanson in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island, Blue Hill and moved to North Platte in 1972. She then lived in Cheyenne, Wyo.; Aurora, Colo.; and Bamberg, Germany for more than four years. She returned to Grand Island in April 1998.
She worked as a beautician for a number of years. She enjoyed painting and drawing.
Survivors include two daughters, Christine (Mrs. Jim) Conner of North Platte and Staci (Mrs. Kevin) Jorgenson of Grand Island and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Lorene Bjorklund
GREELEY -- Lorene A. Bjorklund, 84, of Greeley died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Greeley Care Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Greeley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cynthia Alstadt officiating. Burial will be in the Sewdish Cemetery east of Greeley.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Greeley United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to the family.

'Ben' Camp
PETERSBURG -- Bernard Ross "Ben" Camp, 81, of Petersburg died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Neligh Nursing Center in Neligh.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg. The Rev. Jeff Zyla will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion. Visitation will resume at 7 p.m. Monday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service, and at 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Camp was born
March 30, 1918, to Okey Ross and Frances (Brocktrup) Camp on a farm near Center in Butler County. The family moved to Elgin where he attended school. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1938.
After graduation, he worked for the railroad and worked in Minnesota on harvesting crews during the Depression.
He married Irene Reestman on Nov. 28, 1944, at Raeville. They lived and farmed near Petersburg, and he also worked at the local elevator. They moved in 1971 to Elba, where he managed the Farmer's Grain and Supply for 23 years. After his retirement in 1993, the couple moved back to Petersburg.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba, Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department and Petersburg Commercial Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dick of Scribner and Jerry of Omaha; two daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Michael) McCune of Sterling, Colo., and Carol (Mrs. Jerry) Unger of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold of Kearney; two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Dave) Ruther of Grand Island and Marge (Mrs. Frank) Seier of Petersburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerome and one sister, Ruth Thoendel.
Frances Hinze
SPALDING -- Frances J. Hinze, 87, of Spalding died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. The Rev. Joe Hannappel will officiate. Burial will be in Dennison Cemetery between Spalding and Albion.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dolce Scheef Mortuary in Spalding, with rosaries at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Vivian James
BROKEN BOW -- Vivian James, 88, of Broken Bow, formerly of Oconto, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Oconto. The Rev. Dale Coates will officiate. Burial will be in Oconto Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. James was born
Jan. 27, 1911, to Joe and Mary (Dobesh) Orchard at Mason City. She attended school near Ansley and graduated from Ansley High School.
She married Leon James on Oct. 20, 1933, at Columbus. They moved to rural Oconto, where they farmed and ranched. Mr. James died on Oct. 12, 1980. She had lived at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow for two years.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Oconto.
Survivors include one son, Roy of Oconto and two sisters, Rachel Reise of Portland, Ore., and Bonnie Peters of Morgan Hill, Calif.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers.
