Bob McCaffrey
Robert C. "Bob" McCaffrey, 89, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hills of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mr. McCaffrey was born
on June 1, 1911, at Alexandria, S.D., to William C. and Nellie Winifred McCaffrey. He grew up and attended school in Alexandria, followed by one year of college in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He worked in Alexandria until 1936, when he began working for Nash Finch Co. in Sioux Falls.
He married Elva D. Wahlstrom on Sept. 25, 1940, at Webster City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army's 332nd Engineers Division from February 1942 to November 1945. Following the service, he moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he and his wife both worked for Nash Finch.
Nash Finch transferred Mr. McCaffrey to Milan, Ill., in 1962 and later to Lincoln. He transferred to Grand Island in 1965. He retired from Nash Finch in 1976 after 40 years with the company. He continued to work for the company part time for a while following his retirement.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Jane Mizner of Hanford, Calif.
His wife died on Feb. 2, 2000. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur J. McCaffrey.
Otto Otto
Otto J. Otto, 89, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 19, 2000.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kleine Funeral Home.
Mel Argo
SHELTON -- Mel Argo, 82, of Shelton died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be on Saturday in Kimball.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. A prayer vigil led by the Rev. Ray Kosmicki will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Argo was born
on Sept. 9, 1917, at Kenesaw to Alfred and Maude (Leisinger) Argo. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1934. He later lived and worked in Grand Island.
He married Eunice Henry on Feb. 24, 1940, in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island until moving to Alliance in 1963. They later moved to Kimball and operated a Phillips 66 service station and bulk plant there from 1965 to 1975. Mr. Argo returned to Shelton in 1994.
Survivors include a son, James of Loveland, Colo.; a daughter, Jeannette James of Blair; and a sister, Marjorie Felps of Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Don and Steve; a brother; and a sister.
LeRoy Budd
WOOD RIVER -- LeRoy Budd, 69, of Wood River died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at the Ambassador Rehabilitation Center in Omaha.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Rescue Unit.
Mr. Budd was born
on June 1, 1931, at Cozad to Alfred and Alice (Quigley) Budd. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1948 and from Hastings College in 1953.
He entered the U.S. Marine Air Cadets in 1953. He was commissioned a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954 and was honorably discharged in the spring of 1957.
He married Connie Binfield on Nov. 27, 1954, in Scottsbluff. The couple lived in Cherry Point, N.C., Miami and Corpus Christi, Texas, before moving to a farm north of Wood River in 1957. They farmed until 1988. After retirement, Mr. Budd helped his son with his farming operation until his health forced him to stop.
He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche, Liederkranz, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting, golfing and other sports.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, David of Grand Island, Dr. Steve of Omaha and Jerry of Quartz Hill, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Cissell of Cozad.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Owen.
Edwin Gappa
ASHTON -- Edwin Gappa, 86, of Ashton died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Paplin. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 108 of Ashton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

LaVon Ediger
NEBRASKA CITY -- LaVon Jean Ediger, 70, of Nebraska City, formerly of Aurora, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at an Omaha nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of the Higby Mortuary in Aurora. The Rev. Monty Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Ediger was born
at Sutton on May 25, 1930 to Fred and Sophia (Pfister) Holmes.
She grew up at Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School.
On April 17, 1949, she married Milford Ediger at Hampton. They lived in Aurora until 1985, when they moved to Glen Rose, Texas, where they lived for eight years, and then moved to Nebraska City.
For the past four years she had lived in the Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehab at Omaha.
While living in Aurora, she was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ and sang in the choir. She loved music and gave piano lessons until 10 years ago. She also was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Thomas of Nebraska City; one brother, Tom Holmes of Aurora; and one stepbrother, Ken Johnson of Iowa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and James Holmes; one sister, Helen Teter; two stepsisters, Marion Hall and Irene Johnson and a daughter, Karen Jean Ediger in 1966.
Robert Riley
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Robert W. Riley, 78, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Scottsdale Healthcare-Shea in Scottsdale.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evanston, Ill. Burial will be at the All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Ill.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Donnellan Family Funeral Home at Skokie, Ill.
Memorials are suggested to the Catholic charities or the American Heart Association.
Mr. Riley was born
Aug. 4, 1921, in Fairbury to Charles and Agnes Riley. He grew up in Grand Island. He graduated from Grand Island High School.
He served as a Tech Sgt. for several years in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He received his Baccalaureate Degree from the University of Colorado and pursued graduate studies at Stanford University.
Most of Mr. Riley's career was spent at the America Medical Association in Chicago in various editorial positions where he served as editor of American Medical News, Editor of JAMA Medical News, Editor of the AMA Newsletter, a member of the Executive Vice President's staff, and later as a semi-retired consultant to the executive arm of the AMA.
Prior to his association with the AMA, Mr. Riley was news editor for the Topeka Daily Capital. He also served in other various editorial positions with the Grand Island Daily Independent and also with other newspapers in Kansas and Wyoming.
He married Suellen Muldoon in 1981 in Glenview.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jennifer (Dr. Jeffrey) Musson; a son, Patrick; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Buchfinck Riley; his second wife, Lucile Morissey Riley; and a brother, Dick.
Pearl Runge
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Pearl B. Runge, 91, of Anaheim, Calif., died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Anaheim, Calif.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mrs. Runge was born
Aug. 5, 1908, to George and Amanda (Snyder) Wabel at Cairo. She was a receptionist at a doctor's office for 20 years.
Survivors include a sister, Bertha Kraning of Estes Park, Colo. and a brother, Raymond Wabel of Anaheim, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Mary M. Wohlman
Mary M. Wohlman, 65, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at the Wedgewood Care Center of Grand Island.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, with Patricia Summers officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mrs. Wohlman was born
Jan. 8, 1934, to Job and Gladys (Colbank) Castor in Grand Island, where she was raised and attended school.
On Dec. 6, 1953, she married Blaine E. Wohlman in Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island, where Mrs. Wohlman worked at Coney Island, Pete's Grill, The Farmer's Daughter and Ben's Rexall.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxillary and the Liederkranz.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Wohlman.
She ws preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Debra Wohlman; six brothers and five sisters.
