Lena Amm
BROKEN BOW -- Lena Justina Amm, 82, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Callaway District Hospital in Callaway.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a Christian wake service afterward, at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the hospital.
Mrs. Amm was born
on Feb. 14, 1918, at Broken Bow to Theodore and Rosa (Vogt) Esch. She attended grade school at Senate Valley and high school at Rose Valley.
She married Homer Amm of Callaway in 1941. They lived on a farm in the Sunny Side District southwest of Broken Bow for 20 years. She moved to Broken Bow in 1964 and began working at Becton Dickinson. Mr. Amm died in 1980. Mrs. Amm retired from Becton Dickinson in 1996 at the age of 78.
Mrs. Amm was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, St. Joseph's Altar Society and the Sunny Side Neighborhood Club.
Survivors include two sons, Dean of Oconto and Duane of Broken Bow; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Pete of Broken Bow; and two sisters, Mary Pryce of Broken Bow and Martha (Mrs. Orville) Rosentreader of Ansley.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
'Betty' Farris
RAVENNA -- Elizabeth "Betty" Farris, 92, of Ravenna died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. wake service, Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Ravenna Good Samaritan Center or the Ravenna Garden Club.
Mrs. Farris was born
on Dec. 18, 1907, in Omaha to Otto and Justine Gimpel. She was a 1924 graduate of Omaha Tech.
She married James T. Farris on Nov. 27, 1929, in Omaha. The couple lived in Omaha. Mrs. Farris worked as a hostess at the Nebraska Public Power District cafeteria in Omaha. They retired to Ravenna in 1970.
Mrs. Farris was a member of the Omaha Rock Club and Ravenna Garden Club.
Survivors include two sons, James N. Farris of Ravenna and Raymond Farris of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Dorothy Santi of Lakewood, Colo., and Susan Fisher of Hurst, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister.
Lorraine Wissing
ST. LIBORY -- Lorraine E. Wissing, 81, of St. Libory died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Libory's Catholic Church. The Rev. David Rykwalder will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. parish rosary, Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mrs. Wissing was born
on Feb. 10, 1919, at St. Libory to Hans and Martha (Teng) Leschinsky. She attended St. Libory's Catholic School, Howard County District 41 School and Grand Island Senior High. She worked as a telephone operator in St. Libory for three years.
She married John W. Wissing on June 30, 1937, at St. Libory. The couple farmed in the St. Libory area throughout their marriage. Mr. Wissing died on Dec. 27, 1976. Mrs. Wissing continued to live on the family farm north of St. Libory.
She enjoyed flowers, dancing, bowling, playing cards, sewing, reading, watching birds and wild animals and her collection of birdhouses and wind chimes.
She was a member of St. Libory's Catholic Church. She had served as an officer of the Council of Catholic Women, head of the prayer line and was head noodle maker for the church's annual soup supper. She was a member of the Platt-Duetsche and the St. Paul Senior Center board.
Survivors include four sons, Norman, Alan and Steven, all of St. Libory, and Roger of Glenwood, Iowa; three daughters, Janelle (Mrs. Michael) Culp and Carol Fenton, both of Grand Island, and Marjean (Mrs. Rick) Pedersen of Thornton, Colo.; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Elmer Leschinsky of St. Libory; four sisters, Myrtle Buhrman and Velma Stewart, both of Grand Island, Alice Southard of St. Paul and Margaret Townsend of Lynnwood, Wash.; and a special friend, Amos Starkey of Grand Island.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons and three brothers, Arnold, Ervin and Louis Leschinsky.
Gary Korte
OXFORD -- Gary Korte, 56, of Oxford died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans. The Rev. Gerald Vap will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Orleans.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans.
Memorials have been established in his memory.
Mr. Korte was born
on Oct. 6, 1943, in Orleans to Bernard and Eleanor (Kresser) Korte. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1963 and worked at the Orleans Alfalfa Mill for several years. He moved in 1968 to Oxford, where he worked for the Oxford Cheese Factory.
He married Marsha Carlson on Oct. 26, 1968. The couple owned and operated the Bird Cage in Oxford for seven years. Mr. Korte then began working for the city of Oxford, where he continued to work until his death.
Mr. Korte enjoyed stock car racing, fishing and camping. He volunteered his time to recycling efforts in Oxford. He was awarded the ARC of Nebraska Volunteer Award in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammie Korte of Oxford and Lesha Korte of Lincoln; his parents, of Orleans; four sisters, Pat (Mrs. George) Miller of Lincoln, Betty (Mrs. Dave) Eyre of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Kathy (Mrs. Dennis) Platt of Bastrop, Texas, and Barb (Mrs. Burton) Thompson of Holdrege; three brothers, Alan of St. Cloud, Minn., Dwayne of Fullerton and Dave of McCook; and a special friend, Shelly Armstrong of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
Valentyna Nebesniak
LINCOLN -- Valentyna "Val" Nebesniak, 76, of Lincoln died Thursday, July 13, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George's Byzantine-Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lincoln. The Rev. Basil Buchek will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln.
Wake services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Memorials are suggested to the church and Tabitha Hospice.
Mrs. Nebesniak worked as a housekeeper at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and for Russell Stover Candy Co.
She was a member of St. George's Byzantine-Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Lincoln Heights Extension Society.
Survivors include two sons, Larry of Omaha and Vic of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island; one daughter, Lyla (Mrs. Dan) Ott of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lida of the Ukraine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wasyl "Bill" Nebesniak.
Virginia Shoaf
SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Virginia Shoaf, 48, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Sioux City.
Services will be on Friday at Brinkman Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be in Logan Cemetery at Sioux City.
She was born
on March 8, 1952, at Grand Island to Paul and Lillian (Stephens) Shoaf. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1972.
She worked at Delicious Foods and Lutheran Hospital. She moved to Sioux City in 1978.
Survivors include two sisters, Bonnie Scott of North Sioux City, S.D., and Nancy Randall of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Shoaf.
Jack Lockhart
Jack D. Lockhart, 66, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at his home.
Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Ronald Ryan
Ronald R. Ryan, 54, of Grand Island died of Huntington's disease Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m., Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.
Memorials are suggested to the Huntington's Disease Society of America and to the Hereditary Neurological Disease Center in Wichita, Kan.
Mr. Ryan was born
on Sept. 23, 1945, at Broken Bow to John B. and Eleanor (Van Dyke) Ryan of Merna. He grew up in Merna and graduated from Merna High School in 1963. He entered the U.S. Army in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1967 after being stationed in Germany.
He loved to travel and worked at numerous jobs throughout his travels in America. He also loved to read.
He belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church as a youth. He was a past member of the American Legion in Grand Island. He entered the Grand Island Veterans Home in 1991 due to illness.
Survivors include three brothers, Terry Ryan, Dan "Red" Ryan and Tim Ryan, all of Grand Island; and one sister, Marlene (Mrs. Greg) Cliffords of Tempe, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry Schinkel
Larry R. Schinkel, 58, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at the University Hospital in Omaha following surgery.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church. The Rev. William R. Voelker will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mr. Schinkel was born
on Aug. 5, 1941, at Kearney to Harry and Gladys (McNurlin) Schinkel. He grew up in Gibbon and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1959.
He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force Reserve and graduated from Kearney State College in 1965.
He married Carol Swennes on March 19, 1966, at Hugo, Colo. They lived in Denver, Fort Morgan, Colo., and Rapid City, S.D., before moving to Grand Island in 1987. At the time of his death, he was controller for Anderson Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Grand Island.
He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kyle Schinkel of Silver City, N.M., Stuart Schinkel of Kearney and Cory Schinkel of Norfolk, Va.; and a daughter, Esther Winchell of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
