Phyllis Ambrose

ST. PAUL -- Phyllis J. Ambrose, 76, of St. Paul died Monday, July 10, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas G. Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Library Foundation, the church or the donor's choice.

Mrs. Ambrose was born icon on Sept. 16, 1923, at Battle Creek to Clarence "C.A." and Myrtle (Rish) Jacobson. The family moved to St. Paul in 1927, and Mrs. Ambrose graduated from St. Paul High School in 1941.

She received her registered nursing degree from Mary Lanning Nursing School in 1947. She moved to Bakersfield, Calif., where she worked as a registered nurse.

She married Leonard Ambrose on May 25, 1951, in St. Paul. The couple farmed nine miles south of St. Paul. Mrs. Ambrose worked at the old Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Grand Island, Howard Community Hospital in St. Paul and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island for nearly 20 years.

She enjoyed old cars, collector plates, fishing and spending time at her Sherman Lake cabin.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of St. Paul, American Legion Auxiliary 38 of Ord and the Sherman Lake Association.

Survivors include a son, Jon of St. Paul; a daughter, Barbara (Mrs. Larry) Ronzzo of Ord; three stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and three brothers, Wes of North Platte, Gordon of Portland, Ore., and Don of Mesa, Ariz.

Her husband died on Sept. 30, 1999. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Byron; and a sister, Lucille.

Lena Amm

BROKEN BOW -- Lena Amm, 82, of Broken Bow died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Callaway District Hospital in Callaway.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow. The Rev. Todd Philipsen will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a Christian wake service afterward at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow.

Memorials are suggested to the hospital.

Dorothy Fleck

STROMSBURG -- Dorothy Hannah Fleck, 85, of Stromsburg died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. The Rev. Keith Brozek will officiate. Burial will be in Hoffer Cemetery in rural Gresham.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.

Mrs. Fleck was born icon on May 5, 1915, in Gresham to Carl Albin and Hilda Augusta (Johnson) Teegerstrom. She attended rural District 25 School in Polk County.

She married Fred John Fleck on March 17, 1946, in Stromsburg. She was a housewife.

Mrs. Fleck enjoyed sewing, crafts and baking. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include four children, Deann Fleck of Stromsburg, David Fleck of Sioux Falls, S.D., Terry Fleck of Topeka, Kan., and Sara (Mrs. Sam) Lord of Lincoln; six grandchildren; and one brother, Alfred Teegerstrom of Des Moines, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Albert Teegerstrom and Oscar Teegerstrom; and two sisters, Anna Olson and Margaret Fleck.

Bonnie Taylor

GIBBON -- Bonnie Mae Taylor, 50, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at her home south of Gibbon.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. The Rev. Tim Stoner will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon/Shelton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Taylor was born icon on March 30, 1950, in Grand Island to Anton and Margaret (Bonne) Potrzeba. She grew up on a farm northeast of Grand Island, attending grade school in St. Libory. She graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School in 1968 and later from the Grand Island School of Business.

She worked in Grand Island and Kearney, where she lived before moving to Arizona in the early 1990s. She returned to the family farm south of Gibbon in 1996 to be with her parents.

She was a member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include her parents and one brother, Duane of Hastings.

Lorraine Wissing

ST. LIBORY -- Lorraine E. Wissing, 81, of St. Libory died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at her home.

Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul.

Thomas Danaher

Thomas T. Danaher, 75, 1131 S. Cherry, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services are pending with Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.

'Butch' Paustian

Donald F. "Butch" Paustian, 69, of 2706 W. 13th St., died Saturday, July 10, 1999, of an apparent heart attack at his cabin at Sherman Reservoir.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Paustian was born icon May 13, 1930, in Grand Island to John and Olga (Rohweder) Paustian. He received his education in the Grand Island Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army.

He married Arlene Nuss June 15, 1955, in Grand Island. He had been an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 35 years and recently retired.

He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Max of Bartlesville. Okla.; two daughters, Lori Walker of Grand Island and Valera Richards of Omaha; one brother, Tony of Grand Island; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys; a brother, Kenneth; and one granddaughter.

Dennis Copelen

Dennis A. Copelen, 53, of Wolbach died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at VA Medical Center in Omaha.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Wolbach. The Rev. Thomas Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach. Military rites at graveside will be by Ray Mapes, American Legion Post 236 of Wolbach.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Wolbach.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Copelen was born icon Jan. 7, 1946 at North Loup to Marion and Lillian (Dasher) Copelen. He was raised in the Wolbach area and graduated from Wolbach High School in 1964. He entered the Navy in 1965, served on U.S.S. Roosevelt as fireman, and also served in Vietnam.

He married Theresa Easton on June 11, 1973, in Ruckersville, Va. He then worked for the University of Virginia as a maintenance technician for one year. The couple moved to Wolbach and he worked at Atlantic and Champion Homes in Central City from 1975 to 1977.

He was a member of United Methodist Church of Wolbach and also the American Legion Post 236.

Survivors include his mother; wife; three daughters, Michelle Rasmussen of Wolbach, Mary Anna Copelen of Wolbach and Kelly Copelen of Wolbach; two brothers, Jerry of Harvard and Ray of Central City; seven sisters, Linda Valasek of Scotia, Kathy Conroy, Chesapeake Beach, Md., Debbie Keeler of Aurora, Brenda Copelen of Palmer, Donna Copelen of North Platte, Teresa Copelen of Wolbach and Connie Lopez of Grand Island; and two grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father and one brother Jimmie.

Norma Peterson

Norma M. Peterson, 88, of Genoa died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Genoa Community Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa. The Rev. William Jacobson will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Anson Funeral Home in Genoa.

Mrs. Peterson was born icon Oct. 31, 1910 in Nance County to Carl and Jenny (Craig) Carstensen. She attended school in Nance County and graduated from Genoa High School in 1928.

She married Wallace Peterson May 10, 1934, in Genoa. The couple lived near Genoa where they farmed.

Mrs. Peterson was a member of the P.E.O. and Women of E.L.C.A. and was also involved in the Pawnee Senior Center in Genoa.

Survivors include two sons, Richard of Genoa and Robert of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Marian Carstensen of Pueblo, Colo.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.

Grace Urbauer

Grace A. Urbauer, 88, of Hastings, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Urbauer-Williams Funeral Home in Edgar. The Rev. Rick Cepris will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Sunnyside Home of Hastings.

Mrs. Urbauer was born icon August 13, 1910, to Andrew and Daisy (Dean) Welch at Deweese. She grew up in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School in 1930. She taught rural school for two years.

She married Kenneth Urbauer June 10, 1932, in Lincoln. The couple made their home in Davenport before owning and operating funeral homes in St. Edward and Hastings. They moved to Omaha for a short period before moving to Edgar and opening Urbauer Funeral Home.

Survivors include one son, Barton of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Bessie Heffelfinger and Stella Morey.
