Agnes Ziska

Agnes J. Ziska, 91, of Atkinson, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Good Samaritan Center in Atkinson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Atkinson. The Rev. Luke Steffers will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson.

Mrs. Ziska was born icon June 21, 1908, at Good Samaritan Center to Krysl and Mary (Motis) Vaclav.

She married Arthur Ziska October 20, 1931 in Stuart. She was a housewife.

Survivors include two sons, Donald of Urbandale, Iowa, and Dennis of Grand Island; one daughter, Marilyn Breiner of Atkinson; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son.

Edith Christensen

Edith Emily Christensen, 84, of Grand Island died Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Life Care Center in Greeley, Colo.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a seamstress at Brandeis and Schweser's, both in Grand Island.

Survivors include two sons, Donald of Denver and Randall of Windsor, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, including Julie Gregory of Omaha, who was raised in Mrs. Christensen's home; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, John Mann of Lapine, Ore.; one sister, Margaret McDonald of Lebanon, Ore.; and Idella Hegarty, a lifelong special friend.

'Dick' Glade

Henry "Dick" Glade, 88, of Grand Island died Monday, July 10, 2000, at the Tiffany Square Care Center of Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist in Grand Island. The Rev. Delvin Roper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island.

Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mr. Glade was born icon on October 11, 1911 to Fred and Dixie (Husband) Glade at Grand Island. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1929 and graduating from UCLA in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Clara Scheibel on Jan. 14, 1939. After their marriage the couple lived in Grand Island where he was in partnership with his brother, Fred in Glade's Service.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, and Riverside Golf Club. He played baritone in the Grand Island City Band for years.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Anne Hess of Foley, Minn.; four grandsons and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Karen McFarland; one brother; and one infant sister.

Dale Hanover

Dale E. Hanover, 51, of Grand Island died June 20, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Hanover was cremated. A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. rosary, Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hanover was born icon on Oct. 4, 1948, in Tacoma, Wash., to Leighton and Jacqueline (Neumann) Hanover. He grew up in Grand Island and attended District 38, Blessed Sacrament and Central Catholic schools. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1966.

He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and studied engineering. He became a professional engineer, working in both mechanical and industrial engineering. He worked for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Rockwell International, Square D and Brunswick. He also did professional engineering consultant work for the aerospace industry as well as other firms.

He enjoyed farm work and helped with custom combining. He was a jack-of-all-trades and loved to work on engines, both auto and heavy equipment. He was an avid reader.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include his mother, of Grand Island; and two sisters, Sharon Beyersdorf of Spokane, Wash., and Janet Stander of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Merle Stewart

Merle R. Stewart, 69, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 8, 2000, while salmon fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Curran Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Curran Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Stewart was born icon June 16, 1931, in Boise, Idaho, to Hugh and Jane (Schoonover) Stewart. He moved to Grand Island as a teen. He entered the Army in 1952 and served in Korea and Japan. He was in the reserves and then entered the Air Force, serving until his discharge in 1960.

He married Darlene "Dee" Mae Morse on June 18, 1955, in Grand Island. He owned a drywall service in Grand Island until he retired in 1993. He was a handyman and loved to tinker and build. He built his own home and helped with the construction of both of his children's homes. He also built Island Storage in Grand Island.

He restored vintage cars and participated annually as a driver of his vintage car in the Harvest of Harmony Parade. He was an avid fisherman and loved to travel. He built his own motor homes and was on a trip with his wife to Alaska when he died. He taught his children and granddaughters how to fish and enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard M. of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Debra L. (Mrs. Chuck) Costello of Grand Island; two granddaughters; and one sister, Julia Bass of Doniphan.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey.

Archie Thomas

Archie Thomas, 70, of Grand Island died Monday, July 10, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home at St. Paul. The Rev. Larry Lepper will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be Monday prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Alyce Adams

ST. PAUL -- Alyce M. Adams, 83, of St. Paul died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Entombment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the All Saints Mausoleum at Des Plaines, Ill.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Ambrose

St. Paul -- Phyllis J. Ambrose, 76, of St. Paul died Monday, July 10, 2000, at St. Francis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Thomas G. Hyde will officiate. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jacobsen -Greenway Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Library Foundation, the United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.

Evelyn Locker

BURWELL -- Evelyn Pearl Locker, 83, of Burwell died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Burwell. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. The Rev. Mark Middendorf will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Locker was born icon Aug. 17, 1916, to John F. and Emma (Miesinger) Hennings at Pocasset, Okla. At age 6, she moved to Loup County and attended a country school through the eighth grade.

She married Mark Locker on Nov. 5, 1938, at Burwell. They worked at various ranches throughout central and western Nebraska. In 1946, they entered into partnership with Orvall Peterson in the farmland business and later bought his interest. They sold the business in 1956. They then purchased and built on to the current homesite where she lived until moving into the Valley County Nursing Home in October 1999.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and yard work until a health problem in 1967.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Sr. of Burwell; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Clarence, John and Harold and one sister, Liela Brock.

Gordon Maricle

ALBION -- Gordon Neal Maricle, 73, of Albion died Monday, July 10, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in the Boone Cemetery in Boone.

Levander Funeral Home in Albion is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Maricle was born icon on Feb. 11, 1927, at Page to Raymond F. and Lois (Scott) Maricle. He was educated at Boone District 4 School and graduated from Albion High School in 1944. He attended agricultural college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year before joining the Army on June 8, 1945. He served in the Army until Nov. 7, 1946, returned to the university and received his diploma in 1949.

He married Irene Wellensiek on July 27, 1949, near Cook. They lived in Lincoln while Mrs. Maricle completed her college education and Mr. Maricle took postgraduate classes. In September 1950, they moved to the Maricle homestead near Albion to farm. Mr. Maricle also taught veterans agriculture classes for two years in Cedar Rapids.

The couple was married for more than 50 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Albion, where he was on the administrative board; the Tri-Valley Co-op board in St. Edward; the Boone school board; the FHA board; and the Boone County Health Center Foundation board.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sue (Mrs. Jim) Hamilton of Omaha, Nancy (Mrs. Alan) Thorson of Omaha and Alice (Mrs. Don) Johnson of Fort Calhoun; two sons, Keith of Albion and Howard of Stilwell Kan.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, R. Scott Maricle of Hanover, Ind.

He was preceded in death by one grandson and two sisters, Sally Maricle and Virginia Stewart.
