Louis Helzer

Louis L. Helzer, 95, of Grand Island died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Park Place Healthcare and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the Rev. C. Roger Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Eagles Cancer Fund or the family's choice.

Mr. Helzer was born icon March 27, 1905 to Jacob and Katherine (Sittner) Helzer in Hastings, where he grew up and attended school.

He worked for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad and later for the Hastings Tribune as a pressman and typesetter.

On Feb. 17, 1930 he married Bertha P. Williams in Smith Center, Kan.

The couple moved to Grand Island in 1943 where he worked for Bish Machine Company as parts manager until his retirement in 1972. He then worked as a parts runner for Red Rooster Sales and was the assistant manager of the Grand View Apartments.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving in various offices at the local and state level. He also was a member of the Eagles ritual team.

Survivors include two sons, Jay of Grand Island and Richard of Hastings; six daughters, Dixie (Mrs. Art) Ostermeier, Marilyn (Mrs. Danford) Stout, Golda (Mrs. Harold) Bockbrader and Judy (Mrs. Vernon) Engle, all of Grand Island, Kathleen (Mrs. John) McCrellias of Lead, S.D. and Marilou (Mrs. Bob) Baldwin of Wheatland, Mo.; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Phinney of Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, David; three brothers, Sam, Jacob, and Mac; and two sisters, Sara Motley and Maria Esmay.

Arnold Zlomke

Arnold Eugene Zlomke, 89, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gollaher Chapel in Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Patrick Grindol will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the All Faiths Funeral Home at 2929 S. Locust with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or to the donors choice.

Mr. Zlomke was born icon March 4, 1911, at Central City to Otto Ferdinand and Anna Helena (Baumiester) Zlomke. He grew up and attended school in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1930.

He married Eve Ross on Sept. 5, 1942, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Grand Island where he was employed by Dr. Pepper for 20 years and Kelly Supply for 30 years. He retired in 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Eve; two sons, Jim of Columbus and John of Grand Island; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Hugh) Miner of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Anna Bourn

FULLERTON -- Anna E. Bourn, 96, of Fullerton died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Timothy Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in Fullerton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton.

Carl Davison Jr.

PALMER -- Carl R. Davison Jr., 76, of Palmer died Friday, June 23, 2000, at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Church of Christ in Palmer. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites in Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Palmer.

Mr. Davison was born icon June 11, 1924, to Carl R. and Lois A. (Ivey) Davison Sr. He was raised in the Fullerton and Palmer areas and graduated from Palmer High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1947 during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Upon discharge, he returned to Palmer.

He married Louise E. Verplank on Sept. 16, 1947. They lived a short time in Grand Island, then returned to Palmer where he was employed by TG Rutten as a truck driver and later employed at New Holland in Grand Island before he retired at Palmer in 1985.

He was active in the American Legion Burton-Beyer Post 120 in Palmer and the First Church of Christ in Palmer. He was also a member of the 40 and 8 Voiture 136 Hall County.

He enjoyed raising cattle and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Susan (Mrs. Darrell) Sanders of Gardner, Kan., Bonnie (Mrs. Carl) Beed of Palmer, Audrey (Mrs. Chuck) Raynor of Hawthorne, Fla., and Ann (Mrs. Dennis) Vanosdall of Grand Island; two sons, Rick of Grand Island and Barry of St. Libory; one foster daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. David) Shearl of Mead, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn, a sister, Frances Rieken and a stepsister, Barbara Kontos.

James Stauss

ST. PAUL -- James A. Stauss, 62, of St. Paul died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Mike McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with a wake service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Stauss was born icon Sept. 6, 1937, to Frank and Angela (Goodwin) Stauss at Grand Island. He was raised in Grand Island and attended both St. Mary's Catholic School and the Grand Island Public Schools.

He married Carol Jean Romig on April 25, 1959, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. They lived in the Grand Island and St. Paul areas for 41 years. He worked at the Sugar Beet Factory and for Brodsky's Ready Mix prior to owning and operating the Stauss Construction Company. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958.

He was a member of the Catholic faith, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed working with local history and genealogy. He enjoyed helping people.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Mark of Grand Island; two daughters, Caroline (Mrs. Dave) Van Dyke of Arvada, Colo., and Stacy (Mrs. Brian) Cox of Grand Island; six grandchildren; four sisters, Geraldine (Mrs. Virgil) Billington, JoAnn (Mrs. Irvin) Vodenhal and Mary Ann (Mrs. Terry) Westwood, all of Grand Island, and Frances (Mrs. Wilbur) Meier of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and one brother, Wilbur of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dwayne and one sister, Dorothy Woolman.

Agnes Webb

SPALDING -- Agnes Webb, 90, of Spalding died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Friendship Villa in Spalding.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding. The Rev. James Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery in Spalding.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Webb was born icon Nov. 27, 1909, to Edward and Mary (Bruno) Wanek at Leigh. She attended a rural elementary school, then lived with her brother, George, in the Akron area northwest of Albion.

She married Clarence Webb in 1949. Four years later, he died. She then lived in Spalding and Primrose until 1990, when she entered Friendship Villa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, George.

Robert White

SHELTON -- Robert "Bob" White, 57, of Shelton died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at his home.

Services are pending with the Godberson Mortuary of Gibbon/Shelton in charge of arrangements.

Irene Cook

St. Paul -- Irene M. Cook, 88, of St. Paul died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Kenneth Christensen officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested at the donor's choice.

Mrs. Cook was born icon Oct. 17, 1911, at Wolbach to John and Anna (Carlson) DeBord. She attended grade school at Indian Hill and graduated from Palmer High School in 1930.

She married Wayne Cook on Dec. 15, 1931, at Hastings. The couple lived in the Cushing area. In 1948, the couple moved to a farm near Cushing where they farmed until their retirement in the Spring of 1992. Upon their retirement, they moved into St. Paul.

She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, entering contests, sports and country music.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wolbach and the former Live and Learn Extension Club of the Cushing area.

Survivors include four sons, Richard of palmer, Darrell of Scotia, Gene of Grand Island and Kevin of St. Paul; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Douglas) Rother of Socorro, N.M.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bethel Hutchinson of Panarama City, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 16, 1995; two sons, John and Jim Cook; one sister, Gertrude Fredrickson; and two brothers, Floyd and George DeBord.

Helen McIntosh

PALMER -- Helen McIntosh, 76, of Palmer died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 pm. at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Fullerton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McIntosh was born icon March 21, 1924, on the family farm near St. Edward to Ignacy and Olga (Rosno) Gdowski. She attended St. Edward public school and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1942. She received a teaching degree from Wayne State College and taught at rural schools near St. Edward for several years.

She also worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunitions Plant in Grand Island and later for the State Bank of St. Edward.

She married Deward D. McIntosh on Oct. 4, 1948, in St. Edward. The couple farmed in the area of St. Edward and Genoa until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Fullerton. They moved to a farm south of Palmer in 1960 where they continued to live until the time of her death.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and her flower garden.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of St. Paul and its Council of Catholic Women; American Legion Auxiliary of Palmer; an Extension Club; the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Grand Island; Tops and Kops; and was a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Deward D. of North Platte, Terry of Palmer, William Bert of St. Paul and Rickie A. of Grand Island; two daughters, Jody (Mrs. Roger) Nelson of Mead and Dixie McIntosh of Omaha; 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Zurovsky of Albion and Frances Huff of Ventura, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sandra McIntosh; two grandsons; and one sister, Mary Schifferns.
