Martha Preissler

Martha E. Preissler, 92, of Grand Island died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Tiffany Square Care Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Giltner. The Revs. Victor Derwinski, Frank Hoelck and John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Harvard Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kleine Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mrs. Preissler was born icon July 5, 1907, at Roseland to Mathias and Catherine (Kaiser) Trausch. She received her education at Assumption Catholic Church School at Juniata. She worked at K&R in Hastings from 1937 to 1938.

On Sept. 12, 1938 she married Joseph R. Preissler at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Hastings. They honeymooned in Los Angeles, Calif., and stayed in California where she worked at Diamond Walnut Co.

In 1939 they moved back to Nebraska and farmed northwest of Harvard. In the spring of 1944 they purchased their farm near Giltner, where they lived until the death of Mr. Preissler on May 29, 1987. In 1993 she moved to Grand Island to be with her daughter. In 1995 she entered Tiffany Square.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Giltner and the Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia of Grand Island; three sons, Ronald of Fremont, Donald of Omaha and Gerald of Giltner; two brothers, Charles Trausch of Riverside, Calif. and Vern Trausch of Sun City, Ariz.; three sisters, Laurine Preissler of Harvard and Susan Thaut and Jeanette Svoboda, both of Hastings; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by five brothers.

Edith Rojohn

ALBION -- Edith Elenor Rojohn, 94, of Albion, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. The Rev. Larry Sydow will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.

Mrs. Rojohn was born icon July 19, 1905, on a farm four miles south of Lindsay to Clarence and Johannah (Christensen) Peterson. She attended several schools including a Platte County school near Lindsay, Genoa and Albion and Red Dear, Alberta, Canada.

She married Herman Rojohn on Sept. 29, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. They lived and farmed three miles northeast of Albion from 1925 until 1972, when they retired to Albion. Mr. Rojohn died in May 1973. She moved to live at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center on Sept. 25, 1995.

She was a member of the Methodist faith from 1905 through 1928 and then Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Happy Homemakers Extension Club for more than 25 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois (Mrs. Leo) Mueller and Mary Lou (Mrs. Iver) Nore, both of Albion; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Norman Peterson of Broken Bow; and three sisters, Letha Kruse of Albion, Ruth Choat of Columbus and Edna Mae (Mrs. Harvey) Rogers of Orange, Calif.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Ivan Peterson; and three sisters, an infant, Pearl Peterson, Ruby Norton and Goldie Eilers.

Ivan Senff

HAMPTON -- Ivan Senff, 71, of Hampton, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church northeast of Hampton. The Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Higby Mortuary of Aurora is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Senff was born icon May 6, 1929, in York County to Henry and Emma (Werth) Senff. He grew up on a farm in York County.

He married Lila Staehr on June 4, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Waco. He farmed in the Hampton area until his retirement in 1991.

He was a lifetime member of the church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary of Columbus and Arthur and Eugene of Hampton; two daughters, Kathy (Mrs. Harvey) McDonald of Hampton and Lou Ann Meyers of Aurora; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin.

Orvis Okerlund

KEARNEY -- Orvis Okerlund, 85, of Kearney, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Lakeview Nursing Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Rev. Russ Sommerfeld will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery at Frost, Minn.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at O'Brien-Straatman-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.

Memorials are suggested to the church or to the Kearney Senior Hospitality Center in Kearney.

Mr. Okerlund was born icon Nov. 17, 1914, in Frost, Minn. to Rev. Nicholas and Hannah (Graseth) Okerlund. He grew up and was educated in Minnesota and Iowa.

Mr. Okerlund marred Alpha Gronfor in Frost, Minn., on Dec. 28, 1937. He worked as city engineer in Wall Lake, Iowa; city clerk in Pocahontas, Iowa; and city manager in Manchester, Iowa. He then worked as health care administrator for the Good Samaritan Society in Hastings for 16 years. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Iowa City Managers Association, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Toastmasters, Senior Hospitality Center Board, national board of the Good Samaritan Society and the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.

Survivors include his wife of Kearney; one daughter, Lois of Kearney; three sons, Gene of Fargo, N.D., Neil of Minneapolis and David of Clear Lake, Iowa; three sisters, Myrtle Proehl of Boise, Idaho, Hannah Fyrand of Montivideo, Minn. and Berniece Sterling of Campbell, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Genieve Rayno

Genieve Rayno, 93, of Grand Island, died Monday June 12, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jacobsen Funeral Home at St. Paul. The Rev. Pat Grindol will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Wolbach.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rayno was born icon July 17, 1906, at Stanton to Bert and Bertie (Brown) Risor. She grew up in the Stanton area where she attended grade school and Norfolk High School.

She married Hans Knudsen on Feb. 27, 1925, in Council Bluffs. The couple lived in Wolbach where she was a homemaker. In 1948 she moved to Grand Island where she lived for the remainder of her life.

She liked gardening and crocheting.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Grand Island.

Survivors include one son, Richard Knudsen of Burnsville, N.C.; one daughter, Shirley Borre of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty Lou Knudsen.

Mervin Eighmy

BROKEN BOW -- Mervin Roscoe Eighmy, 91, of Broken Bow, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. David Harder will officiate. Burial will be in the Box Elder Cemetery near Mason City.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.

Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Library or the Mervin Eighmy Foundation.

Mr. Eighmy was born icon April 21, 1909, in rural Dawson County to Lee Vernon and A. Matilda (Swenson) Eighmy. He attended rural schools in Nebraska and was a graduate of Sumner High School.

He obtained a bachelor of science in agriculture from the University of Nebraska in 1931. His long career with Gooch Feed Mills culminated with him being elected president and director of the corporation. Mr. Eighmy's business interests were diverse and included a dairy farm near Lincoln and ranches in Custer County.

He established a personal foundation as a vehicle to support the continuation of his philanthropic interests, of which education was his highest priority.

Mr. Eighmy was a member of the American Society of Animal Sciences, American Feed Manufacturers Association and the Nebraska Feed and Grain Dealers Association.

Survivors include one sister, Helen (Mrs. Vernon) Paulson of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Eighmy.

Mary Houdek

CENTRAL CITY- Mary A. Houdek, 96, of Central City died Monday, June 12, 2000, at the Community Care Center in Central City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. The Rev. Nelson Newman will officiate. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service at the church. Solt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Houdek was born icon Dec. 2, 1903, at Loma to Alois R. and MaryAnn (Coufal) Ruzicka. She grew up in the Loma area and attended school there. She later boarded at the Wahoo Catholic High School.

She married Charles J. Houdek on Feb. 27, 1922, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Loma. They farmed in the Dwight and Valparaiso area until 1963, when they retired and moved north of Central City. In the late 1960s they moved into Central City. Mrs. Houdek moved to Community Care in 1998, and her husband died on Jan. 9, 1999.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Due to the loss of her son, Joseph, in World War II she was a Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, flowers, canning and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina (Mrs. Leonard) Fiala of Geneva and Rita Houdek of Grand Island; four sons, Raymond of Chapman, Edmund of Sedalia, Mo., Marvin of Mesquite, Texas, and Tom of Bedford, Texas; two brothers, Joe Ruzicka of Grand Island and Victor Ruzicka of Whittier, Calif.; one sister, Helen (Mrs. Harold) Albee of Grand Island; 31 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren, and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Joseph, Jerome and Charles; two daughters, Charlotte Houdek and Margaret Hotovy; two brothers, Jerold Ruzicka and Louis Ruzicka; one sister, Agnes Jisa; and one grandson.
