Anna Puls
GOTHENBURG -- Anna Schade Puls, 77, of Gothenburg, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services were Monday at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. The Rev. Steve Berke officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.
Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Puls was born
May 31, 1923, near Ashton to Johann Friedrich and Bertha (Holzerland) Heins. She graduated from nursing school in North Platte with her licensed practical nurse degree.
She married Leslie Schade in September 1939 in Kearney. The couple moved to Gothenburg in 1963.
She married Lester N. Puls in 1983 in Gothenburg. She worked for the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Hospice.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and was a Stephen's minister.
Survivors include two daughters, Loraine (Mrs. Leonard) Nehls of Arcadia and Sandra Schade of North Platte; two sons, Donald Schade of Grand Island and Duane Schade of Rogers, Ark.; one brother, Lee Heins of Sidney; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both her husbands; one brother, Carl; one infant son; and two sisters, Mae and Nellie.
Frank Slangal
SARGENT -- Frank J. Slangal, 85, of Sargent died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Jenny Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ord Cemetery. The Rev. Bernard Berger will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent.
Wesley Hasselquist
HOLDREGE -- Wesley Hasselquist, 93, of Holdrege died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Christian Homes in Holdrege.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church. The Rev. Todd Marcy will officiate. Burial will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established.
Mr. Hasselquist was born
Sept. 17, 1906, north of Holdrege on the family homestead to John August and Emma Sofia (Sandin) Hasselquist. He attended Rose Hill School in rural Phelps County. He graduated from Holdrege High School in 1925.
On April 11, 1940, he married Pauline Walter. The couple farmed and raised cattle north of Holdrege until their retirement in 1980 when they moved to Holdrege.
He was a lifetime member of the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church. He was a 4-H leader and served on township boards. He enjoyed woodworking, creating miniature farm wagons and windmills.
Survivors include three sons, John Wesley Hasselquist of Fallon, Nev., Stuart Paul of Funk and Keith Wayne of Boise, Idaho; one daughter, Betty Kristine (Mrs. Michael) Leggott of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Myrtle Eckwall of Holdrege.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Jean; five brothers, Clifford Lind, Roy, Reuben, Raymond and Ralph Hasselquist; and two sisters, Edna Carlson and Alice Swartz.
Elsie Maxon
EUSTIS -- Elsie E.A. Maxon, 81, of Eustis died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at her home in Eustis.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel at Cozad. Smith Kite will officiate. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
Mrs. Maxon was born
April 7, 1919, at Fairbury to John A. and Adeline Kriesel Schoenrock.
She graduated from Fairbury High School and taught rural school before her marriage to Oliver P. Maxon on Aug. 5, 1939. They lived in Omaha, Hastings and Ong before moving to Eustis.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Gothenburg. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading poetry.
Survivors include four sons, Jim of Kearney, David of Lincoln, Donald of Louisville and Tom of Grand Island; two daughters, Judy (Mrs. Bill) Melvin and Mary (Mrs. Jerry) Munsell of Hastings; one brother, Alvin Schoenrock of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; a brother, Carl; and two grandchildren.
Kaila Detaksone
Kaila Paige Detaksone, infant daughter of Khampraseuth and Virasone Detaksone of Grand Island, died at birth Thursday, June 8, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her parents, Khampraseuth and Virasone (Luangaphay) Detaksone; a brother, Colben Phoutasane Detaksone at home; and grandparents, Bounkeut and Naly Detaksone of Blue Hill and Bounnhong and Khamsao Luangaphay of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents.
Donald Hammer
Donald E. Hammer, 81, of Grand Island died Friday, June 9, 2000, at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice or the donor's choice.
John McAllister
John M. McAllister, 97, of Grand Island died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Wedgewood Care Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kleine Funeral Home. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Catherine Shaver
Catherine M. Shaver, 86, of Grand Island died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in Aurora.

John M. McAllister, 97, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Wedgewood.
Services are pending with Kleine Funeral home.
Martha Pruden
ST. EDWARD -- Martha Ellen Pruden, 60, of St. Edward, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at St. Edward.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in St. Edward. The Rev. Hugo Westphal will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at St. Edward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller-Levander Funeral home in St. Edward.
Mrs. Pruden was born
Feb. 4, 1940, on the family homestead at Park Center, west of Elgin to Richard and Marjorie (Edwards) Holcomb.
She attended schools in Neligh and Oakdale and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1958. Following graduation she worked as a dietary aide at the hospital in Neligh.
On May 18, 1963, she married Donald Pruden at the United Methodist Church in Neligh. They lived at Ewing and moved to St. Edward in 1967. She was a housewife and mother and also worked at the Villa Inn in Albion in the 1970s.
She enjoyed her grandchildren and was an avid sports fan and bingo player. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Valarie Pruden of St. Edward and Marietta (Mrs. Mark) Rosno of Genoa; four grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Holcomb of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Carroll Newburn and Lewis Holcomb.
'Ernie' Stanczyk
ST. PAUL -- Ernest "Ernie" Stanczyk, 78, of St. Paul died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Michael McDermott will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul with graveside military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.
There will be no visitation. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Hospice.

Mr. Stanczyk was born
on Jan. 5, 1922, on the family farm at Schaupps to Thomas J. and Julia J. (Jonak) Stanczyk. He grew up on the family farm and attended Schaupps Rural School and Sherman County District 77 School.
He worked on farms in Canada and the northern United States.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1942 to January 1946.
He married Madelon Y. Beebe on June 9, 1944, at Abilene, Texas. The couple moved to a farm north of Ashton for two years and later moved to a farm five miles west of Loup City. He began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1957, and the family moved to St. Paul in 1958. He joined the Union Pacific Railroad in 1961 and worked as a section foreman until retiring in 1985.
He enjoyed antiques, auctions and repairing old houses.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10752, all of St. Paul, and the 12th Armored Division Association.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda (Mrs. John) Condemi of Las Vegas; four sons, E. Kenneth of Beatrice, Lonnie of Salem, Ore., and David and Bobby, both of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Stanczyk of Ashton; and three sisters, Carol Davis of Ashton, Adelaide (Mrs. Edmund) Bandur of Omaha and Delphine Forbes of Eureka, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernadine Hanousek; and two brothers, Louie and Edwin Stanczyk.
