Jean Wolford
BROKEN BOW -- Jean Wolford, 82, of Broken Bow died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Memorial services are pending with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
'Dick' O'Neill
PLEASANTON -- Richard L. "Dick" O'Neill, 67, of Pleasanton died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Pleasanton. The Rev. Loren Pohlmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery.
A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church, Pleasanton High School, Pleasanton Fire Department or Good Samaritan Hospice.

Mr. O'Neill was born
on Feb. 16, 1933, in St. Paul to Arthur H. and Marguerite (Webster) O'Neill. He was educated at Ravenna, Crawford, St. Libory's Catholic School and Ord High School and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1950. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Kearney State Teachers College.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was discharged on May 13, 1955.
He married Barbara Reidy on May 28, 1960, in Kearney. He taught and coached football and track at Sutherland, Franklin, Lexington and Pleasanton. He retired from teaching in 1993. He worked for Blakely Hail of Topeka, Kan., for 36 years as a crop hail adjuster and also sold crop insurance.
He was honored by the Nebraska Coaches Association in 1985 for 25 years of coaching. He served as a track official for the Fort Kearny Conference and NSAA State Track and was a Husker track official. He was a stat keeper for the Pleasanton Bulldog basketball teams and an area sports writer for the Ravenna News. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Pleasanton, had served on the Pleasanton school board and was a member of the Elks.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike and Patrick, both of Lincoln, and Kevin of Kearney; one daughter, Theresa O'Neill of Riverdale; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Don in 1996; and one sister, Mary Beahr in 1988.
Ryan Peterson
LINCOLN -- Ryan Dean Peterson, 23, of Lincoln, formerly of Sargent, was killed in a car accident Monday, May 22, 2000, on the outskirts of Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sargent High School auditorium. The Rev. Mark Crist will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell.
Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mr. Peterson was born
on April 14, 1976, at Sargent to Craig and Mona (Gumb) Peterson. He lived and attended school at Weissert through the fifth grade and graduated from Sargant High School in 1995.
After high school, he worked around Sargent for a short time before moving to Lincoln. He attended Southeast Community College there and, at the time of his death, was working for a co-op in Elmwood as a floater operator.
He enjoyed all types of sports, particularly hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, of Sargant; his father, of Berwyn; one sister, Amber of Lincoln; his grandparents, Bill and Darlene Gumb of Sargant and Donnah and Melvin Peterson of Berwyn; his great-grandfather, Pete Peterson of Shelton; and his fiancée, Cami Marshall of Lincoln.
Donna J. Lavender
Donna J. Lavender, 50, of Grand Island died Monday, May 22, 2000, at her home following a long illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. The Rev. Del Roper will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family or St. Francis Hospice.
She was born
on Feb. 6, 1950, to Charles Sr. and Irene (Kensinger) Jemison Lavender. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1967.
She was a cook at the Nebraska Veterans Home and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed fishing and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her mother; her stepfather, Richard Watson of Grand Island; two sons, James Chapek of Lincoln and Joey Christensen of Grand Island; three daughters, Trinda Lundy of Columbus and Mendy Race and Maria Vavra, both of Omaha; six grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Kensinger of Lincoln and Chuck Lavender of Grand Island; and two sisters, Faye Osborne of Brule and Marcella Pfeifer of Giltner.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Vera Babcock
ALBION -- Vera Louise Babcock, 93, of Albion died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Burial will be in Dublin Cemetery in Primrose.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mrs. Babcock was born
on Dec. 9, 1906, on a farm near Cedar Rapids to Harry W. and Sarah Estella Morris Fenton. She attended Nance County Country School west of Belgrade and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1926.
She married Harold R. Babcock Sr. on Nov. 1, 1931, in Grand Island. They lived in Primrose until 1946, when they moved to a farm near Albion. She was a homemaker. They moved from the farm into the Wolf Carefree Cottages in Albion in 1990 and lived there until October 1997, when they moved in with their daughter, Carol.
Mrs. Babcock was a member of the Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids from 1906 to 1931, the Presbyterian Church in Primrose from 1931 to 1946 and the United Methodist Church in Albion since 1946 and received her 50-year pin. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, the Kitchen Klatter Klub, Visually Impaired Peer Support Group, the Albion Women's Club and the Primrose Extension Club.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carol Buckles of Albion; a son, Harold Jr. of Albion; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Patterson of Albion and Hazel Ostendorf of Edgewood, Wash.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and one half sister.
Clarence Brickel
FULLERTON -- Clarence R. Brickel, 81, of Fullerton died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. The Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Brickel was born
on June 22, 1918, near Albion to John and Augustine (Mundschenk) Brickel. He grew up in the Albion area and attended District 81 School.
He farmed in the Albion area and moved to Colorado, where he worked in a dairy in Englewood. He then moved back to Albion and managed the Phillips 66 station.
He married Marie Cook on Sept. 7, 1935, at Bartlett. They farmed in Nebraska and Iowa. They moved to Nance County in 1948 and farmed until retiring in 1986, when they moved to Fullerton. Mrs. Brickel died on June 18, 1998.
Mr. Brickel enjoyed gardening and listening to polka music.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Peterson of Fullerton; two grandchildren; one brother, George of Crook, Colo.; and four sisters, Elizabeth Cook of Columbus, Cecilia Shaver of Albion, Louise Cowell of Wheatland, Wyo., and Dorothy Gates of Texas.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, LeRoy, Denver, Irven and Raymond; and one sister, Emma Erb.
Marcy Janovec
CHAPMAN -- Marcy Janovec, 76, of Chapman died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Laura Nowak
FULLERTON -- Laura R. Nowak, 95, of Fullerton died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Don Cleary will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture and rosary service.
Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Nowak was born
on Dec. 29, 1904, at Nance County to Joseph and Julia (Rosno) Pachunka. She grew up in the Nance County area and attended Krakow School and the Indian school in Genoa. She also attended the Omaha School of Cosmetology.
She received her cosmetology license and operated a beauty salon in Fullerton for several years.
She married Tony Nowak in Fullerton. They lived in Fullerton and raised her nephews. Mr. Nowak died on April 19, 1983.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society. She enjoyed playing music and card games.
Survivors include nephews and a niece.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Louie and Joe; and two sisters, Barbara and Leona.
Richard O'Neill
PLEASANTON - Richard O'Neill, 67, of Pleasanton, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Pleasanton. The Rev. Loren Pohlmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Doris Beranek
FREMONT -- Doris M. Beranek, 69, of Fremont died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Alegent Health Hospice House in Omaha.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Bohemian Cemetery in Ord.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Beranek was born
on July 30, 1930, at Ord to Adolph and Agnes (Dusek) Beranek. She grew up in Ord and graduated from Ord High School. She received her bachelor of education degree from Kearney State College.
She married Philip Mrsny on Sept. 17, 1950, at Ord. She taught in rural and city schools in the Ord area for 38 years. She retired in 1992 and moved to Fremont in 1994. Mr. Mrsny preceded her in death.
She married Amiel Lou Beranek on Dec. 6, 1994, in Fremont.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and the Does Lodge and Rebekah Lodge, both in Ord.
Survivors include her husband, Amiel; four stepsons, David Beranek of Pine Bluff, Ark., Rodney Beranek of Fairbury, Ken Beranek of Cedar Bluffs and Roger Beranek of Fremont; one stepdaughter, Diane (Mrs. Tom) Malesa of Omaha; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
