Sophie Blase
OLATHE, Kan. -- Sophie C. Blase, 102, of Olathe, Kan., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Lakeview Village Nursing Home in Lenexa, Kan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Kurt Letcher will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to the service at the funeral home.
Tamara Jo (Switzer) Watts
PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Tamara Jo (Switzer) Watts, 41, of Prescott, Ariz., formerly of Taylor, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in Prescott.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Madison Square Cemetery west of Taylor. The Rev. Roy Kiester will officiate. Burial will be in the Madison Square Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the Rhoad Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
John Hostler
John E. Hostler, 81, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Onamae Waddel will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Survivors include four sisters, Agnes Hostler, Marie Gartner and Vera Smith, all of Grand Island and Vina Bockerman of Hastings and two brothers, Bernard of Grand Island and Glenn of San Antonio, Texas.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mamie, Elnora and Mabel and two brothers, Carl and Thomas.
Marian Jensen
Marian E. Jensen, 82, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Douglas Stensby will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Mrs. Jensen was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jensen was born
on July 28, 1917, in Dannebrog to Hans and Hulda (Johnson) Andersen. She was raised in Dannebrog and attended Dannebrog schools. After her schooling, she worked on the family farm.
She married Axel Jensen on Jan. 14, 1935, at Alliance. The couple first lived in Hays Springs and later moved to Kronberg, where they lived for one year. The couple then moved to Dannebrog for four years. Mrs. Jensen worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant near Grand Island. The family moved to Orleans and then to Newell, Iowa, where they farmed. The couple moved to Grand Island in 1975. Her husband died on Aug. 10, 1992.
Mrs. Jensen enjoyed playing cards, crafts, handiwork and cooking.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Jacqueline (Mrs. Vernon) Borcherding of Scottsdale, Ariz., Barbara (Mrs. Keith) Harrison of Littleton, Colo., Beverly Franklin of Northglenn, Colo., and Nancy (Mrs. Steve) Horeis of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin of Grand Island; and one sister, Hazel (Mrs. Raymond) Lemburg of Grand Island.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Andersen; and one sister, Margaret Frimann.
'Ted' Daily
HASTINGS -- James Theodore "Ted" Daily, 92, of Hastings, formerly of Taylor, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Village at Hastings.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. The Rev. Violet Stithem will officiate. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery with military graveside services.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Taylor VFW.
Mr. Daily was born
Dec. 24, 1906, to Marion Steve and Gertie Dell (Farley) Daily at Milburn. They homesteaded on a farm near Milburn, then later moved south of Milburn. He attended school in Milburn. In April 1928, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed in Guam and Shanghai, China. He was discharged in April 1932.
He married Thelma M. Dressen on July 7, 1934, at Broken Bow. They farmed near Milburn and Sargent and then moved to Taylor in 1957. His wife died in 1976.
In 1977, he moved to Broken Bow for a short time and then moved to Truth or Consequences, N.M. In 1989, he moved back to Hastings to be near his son.
He was a member of the Taylor VFW and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet (Mrs. Donald) Hennings of Hot Springs, S.D.; two sons, Alan Daily of Broken Bow and Lee Daily of Hastings; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Alvin Daily of Lincoln.
Other than his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Douglas; six brothers, Lloyd, Marion, Claude, Walter, Seth, and Stephen; and one sister, Ellen Christy.
Erwin Hans
STROMSBURG -- Erwin H. Hans, 89, of Stromsburg, formerly of Shelby, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rising City. The Rev. Mark Lindloff will officiate. Burial will be in the Faith West Lutheran Cemetery in rural Rising City.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home in Osceola.
Mr. Hans was born
Feb. 28, 1910, to John and Anna (Abrahams) Hans at Utica. He attended rural Butler County schools.
He married Esther Rathje. They farmed from 1932 to 1974 and lived in Shelby from 1974 to 1996. He moved to Stromsburg in 1996.
He was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd Hans of Shelby; one daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Darwin) Carlson of Stromsburg; four brothers, Elmer of Grand Island, Lawrence of Lincoln, Willis of Englewood, Colo., and Raymond of Berryton, Kan.; one sister, Ella Sanley of Rising City; four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on June 2, 1995.
Clara Schaecher
LINDSAY -- Clara Schaecher, 99, of Lindsay died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Countryside Home in Madison.
Services were on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The Revs. James Kramper and Paul Fangman officiated. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery.
Duesman Funeral Chapel of Humphrey was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Schaecher was born
on April 28, 1900, at Pierce to John and Mary (Weimerskirch) Pfeifer. At the age of 9, she moved from Pierce to Lindsay. She was educated at Holy Family School in Lindsay.
She married Frank M. Schaecher in Lindsay.
She enjoyed cooking and playing cards.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay, Christian Mothers Society and the church's Ladies Guild.
Survivors include four sons, Jim of Norfolk, Vernon of Lindsay, Jack of Littleton, Colo., and Jerry of Grand Island; two daughters, Germaine (Mrs. Mark) Weimer of Sidney and Mary "Toodie" (Mrs. Dwayne) Johnson of Columbus; 31 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Richard of Madison, Alphonse and Martin of Fremont, Sylvester and Ben Sr. of Lindsay and Edwin of Columbus; and two sisters, Agnes Eisenmenger of Humphrey and Magdalen Hageman of Greeley, Colo.
Her husband died on Jan. 16, 1978. She also was preceded in death by one son, Donald; one granddaughter; five brothers, Lawrence, Albert, Harold and two infant brothers; and one sister, Mary Van Dyke.
Ann Lacy
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Memorial services for Ann C. Lacy, 89, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Grand Island, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Lacy Hall at Stuhr Museum.
She died on Aug. 6, 1999, in Fort Myers.
Mr. and Mrs. Lacy were inurned in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Mrs. Lacy was born
on March 8, 1910, in Medina, N.D., to Chris and Marie Christensen. She graduated from Medina High School and attended Jamestown College.
She married Robert L. Lacy on Nov. 28, 1935, and lived in Omaha before moving to Grand Island, where Mr. Lacy was in the construction business. Following his death, Mrs. Lacy moved to Fort Myers.
Mrs. Lacy was a member of the Thomas A. Edison Congregational Church in Fort Myers.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Agnes Christensen of Medina, N.D., and Virginia M. Lacy of Bismark, N.D.; a brother-in-law, Roy Lacy of Erlfrida, Ariz.; and a nephew, Paul Lacy of Wilton, Conn.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother.
Hilda Bogner
Hilda M. Bogner, 89, of Grand Island died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Larmore will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary/wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and following the evening service.
Memorials are suggested to the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society.
Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bogner was born
on Aug. 18, 1910, at Corn Lee in Platte County. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School.
She married Art Bogner on Jan. 19, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. They lived on a farm near Cedar Rapids. They later moved to Grand Island. Mr. Bogner died on March 26, 1995.
Mrs. Bogner enjoyed baking, dancing, playing cards and telling jokes.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Altar Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Johlene Whiles of Grand Island and Judy Pfeifer of St. Paul; one son, Kenneth Bogner of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
