Kimberly Booker
FULLERTON -- Kimberly A. Booker, 39, of Fullerton died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at her home due to cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Timothy Wagner will officiate. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Palmer's Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Booker was born
on Oct. 10, 1959, at Sidney to LaMoine and Alberta (Dickman) Oberschulte. She was educated in Chapman and graduated from Grand Island Northwest in 1977.
She married Gregory Booker on June 24, 1977, at Grand Island. They lived in Hastings and Chapman. She worked in Grand Island for Tupperware and Imperial Cleaners. They moved to Fullerton in 1988. She worked as the church secretary at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church for several years.
She enjoyed reading and needlepoint.
She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gregory Jr. of Fremont and Cory of Fullerton; her mother, Alberta Oberschulte of Fullerton; two brothers, Kenneth of Aurora and Keith of Fullerton; and her grandmother, Anna Dickman of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents, August and Ella Oberschulte and Leonard Dickman.
Arta Delano
KEARNEY -- Arta Delano, 62, of Kearney died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Rainbow Ranch or Crystal Lake Camps.
Miss Delano was born
on July 15, 1937, at the family home in Custer County to Harry and Veda (Hansen) Delano. She grew up in Kearney and was educated in the Kearney public schools. She graduated from Kearney High School in 1954.
She taught for seven years at Wood River District 13 School and for three years at York. She graduated from Kearney State Teachers College in 1965 and then taught in Paso Robles, Calif., for three years. She moved to Park Ridge, N.J., where she taught for 30 years and was named Teacher of the Year. She retired on June 30, 1998.
She moved back to Kearney on Dec. 1, 1998, and lived at Meadowlark Manor until her death.
Miss Delano was on the board of Rainbow Ranch in New York. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family and bird-watching. She also enjoyed teaching swimming and skiing lessons at Crystal Lake Camps in Pennsylvania.
Survivors include two brothers, Calvin Delano of Jerusalem, Israel, and Bill Babel of Kearney; and two sisters, Mattie Soukop of Grand Island and Jocelyn Kimberling of Madrid, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Babel and Marvin Babel.
Cletus Kamler
LOUP CITY -- Cletus N. Kamler, 70, of Loup City died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial with graveside military honors will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at Ashton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Elsie Stark
SUTHERLAND -- Elsie Minnie Stark, 95, of Sutherland died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Sutherland.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. The Rev. Fred C. Gardner will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel in North Platte.
Memorials are suggested to the Sutherland Presbyterian Church or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Stark was born
on July 6, 1904, at Rockville to George and Ella (Plumbeck) Ritz. She attended school in Sherman County.
She married Herman Frederick Stark on May 5, 1926, at Loup City. In 1940, they moved north of Sutherland, where they farmed. In 1959, they moved into town, where she cooked for Sutherland School until retirement.
She was a member of the Sutherland Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women's Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Charles) Minshull of Sutherland; a son, Marvin of Sutherland; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lydia Camp of Englewood, Colo., and Ruby (Mrs. Paul) Pester of Stockton, Calif.; and two brothers, Warren Ritz of Coal City, Ill., and Dean Ritz of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Ella Mae; a grandson; three sisters; and seven brothers.
Donald Stumpff
KEARNEY -- Donald L. Stumpff, 82, of Kearney died Aug. 28, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a lengthy illness.
His body was donated to Creighton University Medical Center. Private family memorial services will be at a later date.
Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary of Kearney was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Michael Stumpff Memorial Fund at the University of Nebraska Foundation or the Fort Kearny Shrine Club.
Mr. Stumpff was born
on May 27, 1917, in Clarks to Edwin L. and Effie (Delancey) Stumpff. He received his degree from Nebraska Central College, attended the University of Nebraska and Omaha University and earned his master's degree from Creighton Medical School. He taught in Oxford before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1940.
He served in the southwest Pacific, Panama, China, Burma and India, where he was in charge of radar operators. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Air Medal and six battle stars. He remained active with the Air Force until his retirement.
He married Elaine Reese on Sept. 4, 1943, in Pratt, Kan. They lived in Fort Crook. He taught at Creighton Medical School and then was principal at Hillside Elementary in Omaha. He moved to Kearney in 1959 and taught psychology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney until retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Kearney Elks Lodge 984, American Legion Post 52, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 759, Eagles, Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He was past state president of the Elementary Principals Association and the Nebraska Personnel and Guidance Organization.
He enjoyed his cabin at Johnson Lake, golf, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kurt of San Diego; two daughters, Pam Stumpff of Armona, Calif., and Nancy Eckhoff of Kearney; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
Edmund Tarnick
FULLERTON -- Edmund E. Tarnick, 90, of Fullerton died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Krakow. The Rev. Robert Nienaber will officiate. Burial will be in the Krakow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., with an 8 p.m. rosary, Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Further visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Tarnick was born
on Jan. 29, 1909, near Krakow in Nance County to Joseph and Mary (Cuba) Tarnick. He attended Nance County area schools.
He married Loretta Kush on May 19, 1936, at Krakow. They lived near Krakow and Fullerton, where he farmed. He retired and moved to Fullerton in 1986. Mrs. Tarnick died on Sept. 17, 1993.
Mr. Tarnick was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Krakow.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan of Fullerton; one brother, Leonard Tarnick of Columbus; and seven sisters, Helen Swertzic, Clara Gedroez, Evelyn (Mrs. William) Hyjec, Loretta Zagozoa, Emma Robak and Rose (Mrs. Robert) Uzendowski, all of Omaha, and Elizabeth Nowak of Shawnee Mission, Kan.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Marjorie; three brothers, Alfons, John and Louis; and two sisters, Mae Jarecke and an infant sister.
Clara Bumann
Clara A. Bumann, 95, of Grand Island died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to United Congregational Church.
Mrs. Bumann was born
July 17, 1904, to Anton and Barbara (Sazama) Pochop at Pierce County. She grew up and attended school in Pierce County.
She married Elmer Bumann on Nov. 9, 1935, at Omaha. The couple lived in Osmond, where she was a housewife and mother. They moved to Grand Island in 1982.
She was a member of United Congregational Church, Osmond Legion Auxiliary for 45 years and a former member of Order of Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include one son, Milo of Bryan, Texas; one daughter, Mary of Bryan, Texas; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Mickie Bumann of Grand Island, who was her caretaker for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Tony and one brother, Milo.
Bill Johnson
Bill C. Johnson, 73, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha.
Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Marjorie Jonas
Marjorie F. Jonas, 91, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Frank King officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the David City Cemetery in David City. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Choir.
Mrs. Jonas was born
April 29, 1908, to Eugune and Maude (Burns) Byllesby at Stockville. She grew up and received her education in Fairbury and Columbus, graduating from Columbus High School in 1926.
She continued her education at the University of Nebraska where she earned her degree in English and music. She married Charles J. Jonas on March 19, 1937, at Seneca, Kan. The couple lived in David City prior to moving to Grand Island where she taught at various schools.
The last 161Ž2 years of her teaching career were at Walnut Junior High, where she taught English. She retired from the Grand Island public school system in 1973.
Mrs. Jonas was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was assistant organist and a member of the choir. She also was a member of the National Music Honorary Delta Omicron, the National Teacher's Society Alpha Delta Kappa, the Organist Guild, the Retired Teachers Association and the AARP.
Survivors include a nephew, four nieces, a brother-in-law, Fred Stiner of Lincoln; and a sister-in-law, Helen Sedlack of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Robert Byllesby; and a sister, Elizabeth Jo (Mrs. Fred) Stiner.
