David Sullivan

DONIPHAN -- David M. Sullivan, 48, of Doniphan died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Revs. Don Larmore and John Hawkins will officiate. Mr. Sullivan will be cremated following services. Refreshments will be served at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, followed by burial in Cedarview Cemetery near Doniphan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sullivan was born icon Sept. 18, 1950, to John and Milrae (Lepin) Sullivan at Grand Island. He grew up on the family farm near Doniphan. He attended Doniphan High School and graduated from there.

He married Christy Lee Bartlett on Feb. 13, 1971, at Doniphan. The couple lived near Doniphan, where he farmed with his father and sons.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, where he had served as a past altar boy, lector and councilmember. He had attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

He was a lifetime member of 4-H and served as a 4-H leader for Doniphan Rustlers for 10 years and a Doniphan school board member for eight years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Erin Sullivan of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan Sullivan of Doniphan and Tim Fogle of Hastings; three daughters, Kimberly Fogle of Hastings, Angela Sullivan of Doniphan and Dena Sullivan of West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren; his mother, Milrae of Doniphan; and five sisters, Rosemary Triplett of Shelton, Connie Osler of Alda, Barb Page of LaVista, Linda Eihusen of Grand Island and Julie Brodrick of Deweese.

He was preceded in death by his father and three grandparents, Eugene and Iva Sullivan and Herman Lepin.

Rosemary Ferguson

CLARKS -- Rosemary Louise Ferguson, 75, of Clarks died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Clarks. The Rev. Richard Fairbanks will officiate. Burial will be in Pierce Chapel Cemetery near Clarks.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.

Mrs. Ferguson was born icon on July 13, 1924, at Osceola to Ralph and Marie (Nelson) Kahler. She grew up in the Polk County area and graduated from High Prairie School. She worked in Omaha and then at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant.

She married Glen Albert Ferguson on Jan. 14, 1945, in Polk County. They lived on a farm at Pierce Chapel and then moved to a farm near Havens. They later moved to a farm east of Clarks. Following retirement, she worked at the Bomber Cafe and Country Corner in Clarks.

Mrs. Ferguson was a member of the Clarks United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and had a special interest in chickens and other birds. She also enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael of Grand Island and Ric of Hastings; one daughter, Vickie (Mrs. Dan) Leanna of Denver; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Ralph Kahler of McCallen, Texas.

Leona Gordon

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Leona D. Gordon, 83, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Ralph Steffensmeier will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will continue at 7 p.m. at the church with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Devin Hatcher

ORD -- Devin A. Hatcher, 16, of Ord, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. James Splane will officiate. Cremation will follow. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday and prior to service time Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Devin was born icon on Dec. 24, 1982, in Grand Island to Harold Hatcher and Connie Stenka. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island. He had recently moved to the Ord area.

He was attending Heartland Assembly of God Church in Ord. He had attended Third City Christian Church in Grand Island. He loved sports.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Harold and Karen Hatcher of Grand Island; his mother, Connie Finley of Grand Island; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Hatcher, both of Grand Island; one sister, Dawna Hatcher of Grand Island; grandparents, Donna Thompson of Grand Island and Raymond Woods of Bellflower, Calif.; and great-grandparents, Ellis Thompson and Otis and Dorothy Davis, all of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Larry Thompson and Patricia Woods.

Mabel Matson

AURORA -- Mabel Marie Matson, 86, of Aurora died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Memorial Hospital Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. The Rev. Al Duminy will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Mrs. Matson was born icon on Oct. 28, 1912, at Hampton to Frank and Anna (Larsen) Anderson. She grew up on a farm northwest of Hampton, attended District 51 School and graduated from Hampton High School.

She married Russell Matson on Feb. 25, 1934, at Hampton. They farmed northwest of Aurora for 30 years. They moved to Aurora in 1964. Mr. Matson died on March 27, 1984. Mrs. Matson entered Memorial Community Care in Aurora in January 1999.

She and her husband traveled extensively in the United States and Europe and spent many winters in Arizona.

Mrs. Matson was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora, was involved in the church circle and activities and had served as church organist for seven years. She also played the organ for the nursing home church services for many years. She enjoyed her bridge and extension clubs and was a member of the Happy Hour Club and the Birthday Club.

Survivors include a sister, Myrtle Danielson of Aurora.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harlan Anderson; and one sister, Bessie Meguire.

Bessie Skupa

KEARNEY -- Bessie M. Skupa, 90, of St. Luke's Countryside Villa in Kearney died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney. The Rev. Dean Pofahl will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ravenna.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and prior to services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Skupa was born icon on March 30, 1909, in Ravenna to Adolph and Bessie (Sheble) Pazdernik. She was educated in the Ravenna public schools.

She married Frank Skupa on Sept. 1, 1926, in Grand Island. They moved to Detroit in 1939 and lived there for 31 years. After Mr. Skupa's retirement, they returned to Kearney, where they lived until his death in 1987.

Mrs. Skupa returned to Michigan to live with her son. She returned to Kearney in 1993 and lived at Kearney Manor and St. Luke's Countryside Villa.

Survivors include her son, Robert of East Pointe, Mich.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Zimmerman of Kearney and Rose Chandler of Riverdale; two brothers, Jim and Emil Pazdernik of Kearney; one half brother, Joe Skupa of Ravenna; and one half sister, Agnes Skupa of Ravenna.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Ben Wall

AURORA -- Bernhard "Ben" Levi Wall, 76, of Aurora died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. The Rev. Barry McCormick will officiate. Burial will be at 9 a.m. in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery at Henderson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Mr. Wall was born icon on May 27, 1923, near Henderson to Bernhard B. and Elisabeth (Quiring) Wall. He grew up near Henderson and attended District 38 School for eight years. He graduated from Henderson High School and attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan.

He married Alma Gustafson on Nov. 3, 1946, at Henderson. They lived near Henderson until 1975, when they moved to Aurora. He farmed until 1997.

Mr. Wall was a former member of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson and a member of Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora.

He enjoyed music, singing with the Messengers of Grace Men's Chorus and a men's quartet in a traveling music ministry.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Marcellus of Aurora; two daughters, Bonita (Mrs. Bob) Oswald of Aurora and Sherryl Wall of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Pete of Henderson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Cathy Crisp

LINCOLN -- Cathy Ann Crisp, 51, of Lincoln died Aug. 23, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Services were on Friday at the Shelton United Methodist Church. Roper and Sons Mortuary of Lincoln was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Crisp was born icon to Gary and Mildred Heusel of Gibbon. She was educated at District 17 School northeast of Gibbon. He graduated from Gibbon High School as valedictorian in 1966. She graduated from Kearney State College in 1973.

She received a degree in vocational home economics in 1975 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and became field educator representative with J.C. Penney Co. in New York. She was director of home economics education and the Child Learning Center for the Wichita, Kan., public school system from 1978 to 1988.

She married Raymond Crisp on June 7, 1984, in Eureka Springs, Ark. They lived in Buffalo, N.Y., from 1989 to 1991. Mrs. Crisp was Cornell Cooperative Extension agent in Orleans County, Albion, N.Y.

The Crisps moved to Lincoln in 1991 to be near family. Beginning in 1995, they spent two years in Saudi Arabia, where Mrs. Crisp taught English to women at Riyadh Military Hospital.

After returning to their Lincoln home in 1997, Mrs. Crisp was involved in the WIC federal aid program until her death.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sarah of Lincoln; her parents, of Gibbon; and four sisters, Joy (Mrs. George) Livingston of Gibbon, Sherry (Mrs. Bob) Krell of Kearney, Becky Atchison of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Wendy (Mrs. Jerry) Meyer of Macomb, Mich.

Marjory McGavren

NORTH REDINGTON BEACH, Fla. -- Marjory M. McGavren, 88, of North Redington Beach, Fla., formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Suncoast Hospital in Largo, Fla.

Memorial services will be at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast or Shriners Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.

Mrs. McGavren was born icon in Omaha. She moved to North Redington Beach in 1985 from Grand Island, where she was an office manager for Hornady Manufacturing.

She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church at Seminole, Fla., and was a Suncoast Hospital volunteer.

Survivors include two sons, Bill McGavren Jr. and Denis Merkle, both of Largo; a daughter, Barbara Stites of Lincoln; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Roberta Olson of Omaha.
