Eugene Kolar

PALMER -- Eugene Kolar, 49, of Palmer died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Ord City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Bertha McCarty

ORD -- Bertha A. McCarty, 90, of Ord, formerly of St. Paul, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Rev. Robert Paulson will officiate. Burial will be in South Logan Cemetery near St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Memorials are suggested to the church or hospice program.

Mrs. McCarty was born icon Jan. 23, 1909, at Omaha to Henry and Bertha (Gaube) Klauschie. She grew up in south Omaha, where she attended Highland School.

She then worked as a seamstress for Kilpatrick Department Store in Omaha and was self-employed as a seamstress.

She married Wilford McCarty on Oct. 15, 1929, in Glenwood, Iowa. The couple lived in Sarpy County. Then they purchased a farm north of St. Paul in 1949, then moved to the farm in 1951. They returned to Omaha in 1957. They retired in 1970, and moved back to the farm near St. Paul.

Her husband died on Aug. 4, 1989. She moved to Corner Cottage in Ord in June 1998. When her health failed, she moved to Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, needlepoint, crocheting and cake decorating.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

Survivors include three sons, Richard of Amarillo, Texas, William of Rapid City, S.D., and Donald of St. Paul; one daughter, Darlene (Mrs. Ralph) Tuma of Ord; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one brother, Frank Klauschie of Albuquerque, N.M.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Forrest; two grandsons; three brothers, Bill, Henry and Art and four sisters, Emma Trecek, Alvina Wezorek, Minnie Hun and Lena Barton.

Rosamond Murphy

GREELEY -- Rosamond Murphy, 82, of Greeley died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Greeley Care Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be at O'Connor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the church.

T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Murphy was born icon Oct. 16, 1916, to Charles and Mary (Foster) Murphy at Brayton. She attended school at Brayton and Greeley and Kearney State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools for a few years.

During World War II, she worked in defense plants in Utah and Washington, then worked for the Postal Department in Seattle. She retired in October 1986. She moved to Greeley in 1987. She had been a Greeley Care Home resident since 1990.

Survivors include one brother, George of Michigan; and three sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. Bill) Newton of Eugene, Ore., Eileen (Mrs. Merrill) Zahn of Wisconsin and Monica Ralph of Normal, Ill.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, John and Joe and two sisters, Mary Murphy and Ruth Emanuel.

Michael Umphress

ELBA -- Michael A. Umphress, 46, of Elba died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, near Bartlett in a car accident.

Services are pending with Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul.

Margaret Ineck

LINCOLN -- Margaret Mary Ineck, 83, of Lincoln died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lincoln. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to the family or the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Ineck was born icon Sept. 11, 1915, at Inland to Charles and Mary (Samson) Lienert.

She was employed as a stenographer for the State of Nebraska; with Miller and Paine department stores of Lincoln; and in food service at Lincoln Public Schools.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph M. Ineck of Lincoln; a daughter, Janet Doulas of Lincoln; a son, Thomas J. Ineck of Lincoln; a brother, Eugene Lienert of Kearney; and two sisters, Louise (Mrs. Myron) Siefken of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Bernice (Mrs. Harry) Joy of Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Joseph and Edward; and a sister, Marie Vetter.

Richard Denson

BROKEN BOW -- Richard B. Denson, 84, of Broken Bow, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Jim Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.

Mr. Denson was born icon Oct. 24, 1914, north of Mullen to George Bennett and Maude E. (Howe) Denson. He attended country grade school and graduated from Mullen High School in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the First Cavalry Division stationed on the Texas Border Patrol and later in the Pacific Theatre.

He married Lucille Miles on Oct. 22, 1942, at Marfa, Texas. They lived north of Whitman for 12 years where he was a ranch foreman for Henderson Ranch. They later moved to the Happy Hollow community north of Berwyn where they lived for 23 years and started his own ranch and the Denson Hay Company.

In 1980, they moved west of Broken Bow. He farmed and ranched and did custom haying. He retired in 1993 and sold his company to his son, Dave.

He was a member of the American Legion. He broke horses and was a pick up man at Mullen and Broken Bow rodeos. He also loved to travel.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; a son, Dave of Broken Bow; three daughters, Rosamay (Mrs. Robert) Wheeler of Grand Island, Laura (Mrs. Michael) Sheanshang of Alexandria, Ky., and Alma (Mrs. Lynn) Beland of Burwell; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alida Fisher; and a grandson.

Margaret Johnson

SILVER CREEK -- Margaret E. Johnson, 79, of Silver Creek died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek with the Revs. Bev Minor and Dick Bauer officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek and from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Johnson was born icon Sept. 25, 1919, to James and Edith (Palfrey) Kershaw in Silver Creek where she also attended school.

On July 18, 1942, she married Leslie J. Johnson in Silver Creek. She lived all her life in Silver Creek, where she was a school teacher.

She also worked at Dale Electronics in Columbus. She enjoyed quilting and crafts and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek.

Survivors include one son, Jim of Crete; one daughter, Judy Tyma of Kearney; five grandchildren; two sisters, June (Mrs. Allen) Irish of Columbus, and Berniece Jones of Stromsburg; two brothers, Bruce Kershaw and Eugene Kershaw, both of Silver Creek.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Sally Kapustka

ELKHORN -- Sally Kapustka of Elkhorn, formerly of Ord, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at Elkhorn Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at the Ord Memorial Chapel.

Willard Larsen

ALDA -- Willard R. Larsen, 60, of Alda died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with Russ Hall and Dale De Raad officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Mr. Larsen was born icon Dec. 29, 1938, at Rapid City, S.D., to Alvin and Carrie (Street) Larsen. He grew up and attended school in Farmingdale, S.D.

He later moved to North Dakota where he married Laurel McLean in 1958. He worked in ranching in the western and central United States, and was self employed in the trucking business from 1968 until his death. He moved his family and business to Nebraska in 1969.

Survivors include his wife, Laurel of Alda; one daughter, Denise Larsen of Alda; one son, Verlen of Wood River; two grandchildren; his mother, Carrie of Rapid City, S.D.; four brothers, Walter of Central City, Rollo of Farmingdale, S.D., William of Marysville, Calif., and Lesley of Bismarck, N.D.; three sisters, DeElda Kersave of Blackhawk, S.D., Viola Stanec of Martin, S.D., and Neela Napoli of Anaheim, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Larsen; one brother, Verlyn; and one sister, Wilma Winston.

Louis Sock

SILVER CREEK -- Louis M. Sock, 76, of Silver Creek died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at Good Samaritan Center in Osceola.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, and will continue at 9 a.m. Monday.

McKown Funeral Home of Silver Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Lawrence Cemetery Endowment or the St. Lawrence Church Organ Fund.

Mr. Sock was born icon Sept. 22, 1922, at Silver Creek to Adam and Mary (Koziol) Sock. He graduated from Silver Creek High in 1941.

He was employed by the Kula grocery store prior to becoming an insurance agent for more than 50 years in Silver Creek.

He was active in many church and community organizations, including St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Esther (Mrs. Don) Dworak of Omaha, Rosemary (Mrs. John) O'Hearn of Kansas City, Mo., and Agnes (Mrs. Tony) Rosenthal of Columbus; and a brother, Frank Sock of Silver Creek.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Alphonsa Sock.
