Ruth Schlund

ALDA -- Ruth D. Schlund, 68, of Alda died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Mrs. Schlund's body was cremated.

Mrs. Schlund was born icon on June 17, 1931, in Sheridan County, Kan., to Linus and Estella (Smith) Kreider. She moved with her family to the Doniphan area, where she grew up and was educated.

Mrs. Schlund loved sewing, quilting and traveling. She helped the elderly so they could continue to live in their homes.

Survivors include one daughter, Shawn (Mrs. Rod) Clark of Alda; a grandson; four sisters, Marie Harding of Missouri, Eva Rose Williams of Texas, Doris Smith of Lincoln and Esther Smith of Kearney; and two brothers, Bob and Fred Kreider, both of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene.

Jimmie Foltz

ALLIANCE -- James E. "Jimmie" Foltz, 73, of Alliance died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at a Denver area hospital after an extended illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bates-Gould Chapel in Ainsworth. Burial with military rites will follow in the Oregon Trail Cemetery in Bridgeport.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Health Care Center or the Boys and Girls Home of Nebraska in Alliance.

Mr. Foltz was born icon on Sept. 3, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo., to James E. and Glessnor L. (Stuart) Foltz.

He married Ruth L. Stryson on May 28, 1966, at Alliance.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Foltz of Vidalia, La., and John Foltz of Alliance; two daughters, Peggy (Mrs. Gene) Letson of Seagoville, Texas, and Sharren (Mrs. Jim) Jermyn of Hamlin, N.Y.; two stepsons, Don Graham of Scottsbluff and Larry Graham of Lincoln; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy M. Hebertson of St. George, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Arthur Kurth

COLUMBUS -- Arthur H. Kurth, 85, of Columbus, formerly of Belgrade, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at the Columbus Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. Burial will be in the Belgrade Main Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Elva Grunkemeyer

DENVER -- Elva Grunkemeyer, 91, of Denver, formally of Burwell, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at her home.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, Colo. Graveside memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.

Memorials are suggested to the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Infant of Prague Statue, Aurora, Colo.

Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Burwell is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Grunkemeyer was born icon on April 2, 1908, in Hastings to Clifford and Zora Lee (Ballagh) McWhirter. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1926.

She taught for one year at a rural school and then attended Midlands College in Fremont, where she majored in art.

She married Carl A. "Bump" Grunkemeyer in 1929. They lived in Burwell and owned and operated a meatpacking plant and retail grocery store. Mr. Grunkemeyer died in 1978. After her husband's death, Mrs. Grunkemeyer lived with her family and moved with them to Denver in 1982.

She enjoyed playing bridge, socializing and shopping.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Lee (Mrs. B.W.) Costello of Denver; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dr. Harold Taylor

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Dr. Harold F. Taylor, 75, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of St. Paul, died July 24, 1999, at his home.

Memorial services were on July 27 at Old North United Methodist Church Chapel in Evansville. The Rev. Gary Schaar officiated.

Dr. Taylor graduated from St. Paul High School in 1942 and from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1955. He was a member of Phi Rho Sigma medical fraternity and the Indiana State Medical Society.

He married Beulah Falk.

Dr. Taylor had an internal medicine practice in Irving, Texas, and then became board certified in nuclear medicine and practiced in Indianapolis. He moved to Evansville in 1981. He worked for Baxter Drug Co. and retired in 1991.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served in Europe for three years.

He was a member of Old North United Methodist Church in Evansville.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Jensen of Golden, Colo., and Sarah Bradley of Chandler,. Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Robert Beavers

Robert Dale Beavers, 87, of Grand Island, formerly of Edgar, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the Veteran's Hospital in Grand Island.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Plains in Edgar. The Rev. Rick Cepris will officiate. Burial with military rites will be held at the Edgar Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mr. Beavers was born icon June 12, 1912, near Angus in Nuckolls County to Gardie and Maude (Rathbun) Beavers. He graduated from Davenport High School.

He married Gertrude Clark May 19, 1933, in Mankato, Kan.

He was a World War II veteran, and was wounded in action Dec. 13, 1944 while serving as a member of the 83rd Infantry Division during the invasion of Normandy.

The Beavers later made their home in Edgar.

Mr. Beavers owned and operated Beaver's Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1976. The couple moved to Grand Island in February 1999, where they made their home at Riverside Lodge.

He was a member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar, and was secretary of the Horseman's Rocky Mountain Division of Horseman's Benevelent Protective Association for 25 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Edgar Masonic Lodge.

He was an avid football fan and he enjoyed horse racing.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude of Grand Island; a daughter, Dorothy L. Bernhardt of Plattsmouth; a son, Robert Clark Beavers of Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Cleo Beavers of Fairbury; three brothers, Virgil Beavers of Grand Island, Don Beavers of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Gardie Beavers of Carleton; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Loyal Beavers.

Margaret Holder

Margaret Rose Holder, 89, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at the Park Place Health Care and Rehab Center of Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Gretchen Diers will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family greeting friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Holder was born icon Jan. 14, 1910, at Columbus to Leo A. and Anna Doretta (Peterson) Wagner. She was educated in Grand Island.

She married George H. Holder June 21, 1928, in Lawrence, Kan. They made their home in Grand Island. Mr. Holder died in May 1990.

Mrs. Holder was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the church's ladies circle.

She enjoyed babysitting and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons, George of Grand Island and Larry of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Carole Sowers of Torrence, Calif.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry Holder Jr.; a brother, Floyd Wagner; and two sisters, Leola Miller and Doris Bonivilla.

John Smith

John "Jack" Joseph Smith, 70, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. José Chavez will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Ervin Donaldson

GIBBON -- Ervin L. "Dop" Donaldson, 96, of Gibbon died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Godberson Mortuary in Gibbon. The Rev. Robert Flynn will officiate. Burial will be in the Gibbon Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center or to the Gibbon Educational Foundation.

Mr. Donaldson was born icon July 7, 1903, on a farm south of Gibbon. He graduated from Gibbon High School in 1924. He farmed in the area until going to work for Petersen Lumber of Gibbon. It later became Martin Lumber, and Mr. Donaldson worked there until retiring in the mid 1970s.

He married Olive Webster June 21, 1934, in Julesburg, Colo.

He moved to Good Samaritan Center in April 1998.

He was a former member of the Gibbon Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of Gibbon; four daughters, Gloria Bayley of Gibbon, Marla Brown of Oceanside, Calif., Janice Kriha of Lincoln and LeAnn Reeds of Columbus; one brother, Kelly of Gibbon; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; one sister; and two grandsons.
