Betty J. Larsen

Monday, April 10, 2000

Hastings resident Betty Jean (Moore) Larsen, 73, of 902 N. Baltimore Ave. died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Larsen was born Aug. 4, 1926, to Floyd E. and Florence E. (Drawbaugh) Moore in Central City. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1944. On June 9, 1945, she married Harold W. Larsen. She was owner of Betty's Beauty Salon for more than 40 years.

She was a member of the Nebraska State National Hairdresser-Cosmetologist organization and past president of the organization's Hastings Unit No. 14. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star Acacia Chapter No. 39.

Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Sally Sue Peck of Hastings; one son, Terry of Hastings; one sister, Patty Moore Plum of Hastings; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Fred P. Turner

Sunday, April 9, 2000

Hastings resident Fred P. Turner, 88, of Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at GSV All Saints Chapel with the Rev. Walter Bye officiating. Committal will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Lincoln. Visitation is one hour prior to services Wednesday at the GSV chapel. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Turner was born Oct. 12, 1911, to John W. and Hattie (Lintner) Turner in Burnham. He graduated from Seward High School. He then attended Creighton University in Omaha and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He married Veeda C. Gideon. He was a salesman for Lincoln Wholesale Drug Co. in Lincoln for 25 years and retired in 1973. He moved from Lincoln to Hastings in 1980. On Sept. 15, 1993, his wife died.

Survivors are two sons, Ralph of Edmonds, Wash., and Michael of Oakland, Calif.; and one daughter, Tamara Turner of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Village or the donor's choice.

Dennis D. Dyke

Saturday, April 8, 2000

Minden resident Dennis D. Dyke, 59, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Holdrege.

Private family burial will be at the Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mr. Dyke was born May 28, 1940, to Charles and Doris (Bone) Dyke in Gandy. He grew up in the Arnold area and attended country school in that area. He then moved to Minden and attended Minden High School. He was married to Donna Davidson. On Sept. 29, 1967, he married Marilyn (Anderson) Ruhter. They lived in Minden. He was a custom farmer in the Minden area for several years.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, John and Jerry, both of Minden; two stepsons, Rodney Ruhter of Crete and Ron Ruhter of Waco, Texas; one daughter, Jolene Jenner of Kearney; his mother, Doris Hagadorn of Broken Bow; his stepmother, Dorothy Dyke of Kearney; two brothers, Charles "Bud" of Yuma, Colo., and James of Broken Bow; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one stepson, Michael Ruhter; his father; his stepfather, Paul Hagadorn; and one brother.

Dean E. Domeier

Saturday, April 8, 2000

Former Tribland area resident Dean Everett Domeier, 70, of Grand Island died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grafton with the Rev. Michael Helwig officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8 p.m. Tuesday with family present at Kohler Mortuary in Sutton.

Mr. Domeier was born June 26, 1929, to Anton L. and Mayme (Everts) Domeier in Grafton. He graduated in 1946 from Sutton High School. He then attended Wayne State College for two years. On Oct. 29, 1950, he married Deloris Unterseher in Sutton. From 1952-54 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed for a short time and then owned and operated the Sutton Bakery for 24 years. He retired in 1988. He and his wife moved to Grand Island in 1989.

He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Grand Island and the American Legion Post No. 53 in Grand Island.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Deborah Meyer of Hastings and Vicki Goetz of Grand Island; two sons, Bruce and Jerry, both of Sutton; one brother, Vern of Sutton; two sisters, Delores Mick of Sutton and Florence Schroder of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Marjorie B. Sutton

Thursday, March 30, 2000

Hebron resident Marjorie B. (Longbrake) Sutton, 78, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hebron with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron. Visitation begins today at 3 p.m. at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron.

Mrs. Sutton was born Sept. 17, 1921, to Neil and Ellen (Lennon) Longbrake in Hebron. She moved with her family at the age of 7 to Kentucky. She graduated from high school in Kentucky. On Feb. 18, 1944, she married Glendle "Glen" Sutton in Kentucky. During World War II she worked at airplane plants in Michigan and Indiana. They moved to Hebron in 1945. She then worked for several years as a grocery clerk in Hebron and retired in 1988. In 1991 her husband died.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Hebron Firemen's Auxiliary.

Survivors are two daughters, Phyllis Luehring of Hebron and Kathryn Sutton of Columbus; one sister, Ann White of Cleveland, Tenn.; three half-sisters, Dorthy Jenkins of Cleveland, Tenn., Daisy Mors of Prinston, Ky., and Mary Ray of Hermitage, Tenn.; one stepsister, Ladona Smurawa of Burnside, Ky.; one stepbrother, Clifton Ray of Prinston; and one stepgrandchild.

She was preceded in death by one stepbrother.

Memorials may be given to the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department.

Elizabeth A. Lammers

Friday, March 31, 2000

Minden resident Elizabeth A. (Nitzel) Lammers, 93, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at the Kearney County Health Services Long Term Care Unit in Minden.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Upland Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mrs. Lammers was born July 21, 1906, to Emil and Louisa (Scharff) Nitzel in Franklin County. She grew up in Campbell and attended Rural School District 64 near there. She also attended a parochial school near Campbell. On Feb. 20, 1930, she married Carl Lammers. They farmed in the Upland and Minden areas. In 1965 her husband died. She worked at a cafe in Minden and later at the Bethany Home in Minden. She retired in 1983.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden.

Survivors are two sons, Dennis and Leroy, both of Minden; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Leonard; two sisters; and two brothers.

Gail M. Harrenstein

Thursday, May 6, 1999

Rural Doniphan resident Gail M. Harrenstein, 75, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at his home.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Kathleen Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services at the church.

Mr. Harrenstein was born March 18, 1924, to John B. and Ella Mae (Anderson) Harrenstein on a farm south of Hastings. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1942. On March 12, 1949, he married Dorothy Hobrock in Hastings. In 1952 they moved south of Doniphan. He was a lifelong area resident and farmer.

He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He also was a 4-H leader and assistant baseball coach in the Doniphan area.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Larry and Craig, both of Doniphan; two daughters, Linda Dill of Doniphan and Ann Beckmann of Grand Island; four sisters, Della Stein, Ruth Reiner and Leah McCrady, all of Hastings, and Leola Lay of Glenvil; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Claryce A. Carney

Wednesday, May 5, 1999

Former Franklin County resident Claryce A. (Glenn) Carney, 59, of rural Beatrice died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home chapel in Beatrice with the Rev. Mark Seiker officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery at Beatrice. Visitation is at the funeral home until services.

Mrs. Carney was born April 30, 1940, to Archie and Ilene (Benson) Glenn in Upland. She graduated from Upland High School in 1958. On April 24, 1959, she married Donald Carney in Campbell. They lived in various communities before moving to Beatrice in 1960. She was a nurses aide at the Mennonite Hospital and later a sales clerk at J.C. Penney, both in Beatrice.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beatrice.

Survivors are her husband; three sons, Michael, Randall and James, all of Beatrice; one daughter, Kerry Carney of Lincoln; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister.

Memorials have been established.

Rodney Burnett

Friday, April 30, 1999

Former Hastings resident Rodney Burnett, 42, of Anselmo died Friday, April 30, 1999, at his home.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo with the Rev. Mark Maresh officiating. His remains were cremated. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Ansley is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burnett was born June 12, 1956, to Virginia and Clair Burnett in Broken Bow. He attended college in Hastings.

Survivors are his wife, Linda of Hastings; three daughters, Amanda Burnett and Stacey Burnett, both of Hastings, and Heather Ross of Lincoln; two stepsons, Kristopher Shaw and Benjamin Shaw, both of Hastings; his father and stepmother, Clair and Leah Burnett of Anselmo; his mother, Virginia John of Purling, N.Y.; three sisters, Linda Bang of Purling, Teresa Kolkebek of Sandy, Utah, and Kathy LaMothe of Pasadena, Calif.; and seven brothers, Dan Burnett and Steve Burnett, both of Anselmo, David John of Texas, Jim John of Purling, Chris John of California, Greg Burnett of Shelton and Mitch Burnett of Oakdale.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Dale P. Crouse

Wednesday, May 5, 1999

Former Bloomington resident Dale P. Crouse, 65, of Oxford died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Tri Valley Hospital in Cambridge.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. June 1 at Republican City Cemetery at Republican City with the Rev. Duane Lauber officiating. His remains were cremated. There will be no visitation. Hutchins Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crouse was born June 30, 1933, to Charles E. and Ruby Mary (Shelton) Crouse in Bloomington. He moved with his family to Beatrice at age 8. He lived there until moving to Walker Post Manor in Oxford in May 1992.

Survivors are four sisters, Cecile Goebel of Red Cloud, Patricia Versaw and Judy Milfs, both of Franklin, and Betty Melton of Naponee; six brothers, Charles of Marion, Iowa, James of Grand Junction, Colo., Bill of Tucson, Ariz., Russell of Denver, Bob of Craig, Colo., and Merle of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Harley Potts

Wednesday, May 5, 1999

Blue Hill resident Harley Potts, 95, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill with the Rev. Bill Westman officiating. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery at Blue Hill. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Potts was born Dec. 12, 1903, to Robert and Ida (Delehoy) Potts in Webster County. She grew up on a farm near Bladen. He attended school at Plainview through the eighth-grade. He worked in Colorado and in Washington at a saw mill and on a ranch. He later worked at a creamery and then for the railroad in Cody, Wyo. On April 22, 1936, he married Florene Magarin in Webster County. In 1953 they moved to Nebraska from Wyoming. They farmed southwest of Blue Hill for 27 years. In 1973 they retired and moved to Hastings.

Survivors are his wife; four sons, Larry of Hastings, Henry of Juniata, Roger of Lincoln and Richard of Blue Hill; one brother, Don of Rocky Mountain, Mo.; five sisters, Emma Knight and Carolyn Cornett, both of Friendswood, Texas, Thelma Skinner of Cody, Edith Hendrickson of Hastings and June Duval of Bladen; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and one great-grandchild.
