Services are pending with Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Margaret Ann Pursell

Monday, May 10, 1999

Superior resident Margaret Ann (Meyer) Pursell, 53, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at her home.

Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Superior. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Superior with the Rev. Bernard Kimminau officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.

Mrs. Pursell was born Oct. 31, 1945, to Richard H. and Elsie M. (Kuhlmann) Meyer at Superior. She attended Home Valley rural school through eighth grade. She graduated from Superior High School in 1963. In 1965 she graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln with a degree in accounting. She worked for a natural gas company in Lincoln. She returned to Superior where she worked for Bankers Life. On Feb. 13, 1967, she married James C. Pursell in Superior. She worked for David Aden Accounting and later for M&R Bookkeeping and Tax Services.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Altar Society.

Survivors are her husband; two sons, James E. of Hastings and Richard A. of York; and her mother of Superior.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Dale S. Dedrickson

Sunday, June 6, 1999

Hastings resident Dale S. Dedrickson, 79, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church of Hastings with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial with military rites will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Clay Center Cemetery at Clay Center. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Mr. Dedrickson was born May 9, 1920, to Arthur and Ethel (Swigart) Dedrickson in Omaha. He grew up in Clay Center. In 1937, he graduated from Clay Center High School in Clay Center. On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Ruby Slater in Grand Island. From 1944-46, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a mechanic for the Public Schools Transportation.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, its choir and Christian Builders Sunday school class. He also was a member of Hastings Men's Chorus and Neighborhood Four Barber Shop Quartet.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Stan of Lincoln and Steve of St. Louis; one daughter, Marcia Clark of McCool Junction; one sister, Dorothy Cuff of Hastings; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn.

Memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church or to the family.

Alvie D. Schriner

Tuesday, May 25, 1999

Blue Hill resident Alvie D. Schriner, 64, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Belle Amis in Blue Hill.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army in Lincoln with Major Robert Boone officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schriner was born Dec. 24, 1934, to Donnie and Ione (Hall) Schriner in Riverdale, Kan. From 1954-56, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea. On Oct. 9, 1958, he married Ina May Griggs in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They later divorced. He worked as a welder. In 1995, he moved to Hastings from Grand Island.

Survivors are three daughters, Stacey Phillips of Ceresco, and Connie Grady and Angie Witmer, both of Hastings; one sister, Doris Dilworth of Lincoln; three brothers, Ron of Palmyra, Don of Eagle and Bert of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Polly A. Pekarek

Sunday, June 6, 1999

Franklin resident Polly Ann (Gorecki) Pekarek, 31, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at University Hospital in Omaha.

Memorial services are 6 p.m. Thursday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. James Schrader officiating. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Farwell with the Revs. Larry Coulter and Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Farwell. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. until services time Friday at the church.

Mrs. Pekarek was born Aug. 14, 1967, to David and Bunny Gorecki in Grand Island. She attended rural school in the Loup City area. In 1986, she graduated from Litchfield High School. In 1990, she graduated from Kearney State College in Kearney. On Oct. 26, 1991, she married James Pekarek in Farwell. She taught Spanish at Neligh-Oakdale High School for a short time. From 1992-99, she taught Spanish at Franklin High School in Franklin.

She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Campbell.

Survivors are her husband; one son, Matthew of Franklin; her parents of Farwell; three brothers, Tom of Scotia, Marc of North Loup and John of Ravenna; and five sisters, Deb Clifford of Hayes Center, Jan Gorecki of Kearney, Theresa Krolikowski of Dannebrog, Jean Gorecki of Kearney and Marie Wilkenson of Culbertson.

Jeffrey L. 'Jeff' Gregory

Monday, June 7, 1999

Grand Island resident Jeffrey L. "Jeff" Gregory, 39, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home chapel of Grand Island with the Rev. Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, including William "Billy" D. and Jeffrey B., both of Hastings; one daughter; his mother; his father; three brothers; and one sister.

Willard A. Pavelka

Tuesday, June 8, 1999

Hastings resident Willard A. Pavelka, 72, of 515 S. Lexington Ave., died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at the Veteran's Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings.

Anna L. Lammers

Saturday, June 5, 1999

Red Cloud resident Anna L. (Jackson) Lammers, 86, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at the Webster County Memorial Hospital in Red Cloud.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Alvin E. Trucano officiating. Burial will be in Red Cloud Cemetery in Red Cloud. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lammers was born May 6, 1913, to Fred and Cora Mae (Schriner) Jackson in Smith County, Kan. She attended rural school District 53 in Franklin County. On Jan. 17, 1934, she married Ernest E. Lammers at Smith Center. She and her husband farmed near Inavale. Her husband died Sept. 19, 1993.

She was a member of the Better Homes Club and the Franklin Dance Club.

Survivors are two sons, Bob of Red Cloud and Roger of Glenvil; three brothers, Richard of Red Cloud, Donald of Hastings and Shirly of Minden; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.

William G. 'Bud' Janssen

Sunday, May 30, 1999

Former Naponee resident William G. "Bud" Janssen, 72, of Fort Lupton, Colo., died Sunday, May 30, 1999, at his home.

Services were Friday at Bostick Funeral Home in Fort Lupton. Burial was to be in Hillside Cemetery in Fort Lupton.

Mr. Janssen was born June 29, 1926, to George and Lydia (Schreiner) Janssen in Riverton. He was raised in Naponee. In 1943 he graduated from Naponee High School in Naponee. From 1944-46 he served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees in the Pacific. On March 3, 1949, he married Crystal Day. He farmed near Brush, Colo. In 1959 he moved to Fort Lupton where he worked as a custom home builder before retirement. His wife died in 1969. He later married Madeleine (Bristow) Scruby.

He was former commander of the American Legion and a member of the VFW and the Elks Club.

Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Rita Archambeau of Wagner, S.D., Janet Koeltzow of Greeley, Colo., Peggy Janssen of Santa Maria, Calif., and Connie Watson of Kersy, Colo.; one son, Ivan of Brighton, Colo.; three sisters, Virginia Britt of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Janetta Graf of Edgewater, Fla., and Georgenia Kempt of Alma; one brother, Verlyn Wohleb of Naponee; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Richard R. Skalka

Saturday, June 5, 1999

Deweese resident Richard R. Skalka, 81, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at his home.

Wake and rosary services were to be 2 p.m. today and services were to be 2:30 p.m., both at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Deweese with the Rev. Dennis Hunt officiating. Burial was to be in Our Lady of the Assumption Church Cemetery near Deweese. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Skalka was born June 22, 1917, to Joseph T. and Antonia (Lipovsky) Skalka near Deweese. In 1936 he graduated from Deweese High School in Deweese. On Aug. 19, 1941, he married Dorothy Mazour at the Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence. He and his wife farmed near Deweese.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and a past member of the Eagles Club.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Jeanie Anders of Doniphan; two sons, Don and Lee, both of Deweese; one sister, Lillian Stoller of Hastings; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

Memorials may be given to Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Dale S. Dedrickson

Harold E. Ott

Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999

Former Naponee resident Harold Edward "Pete" Ott, 81, of Sun City, Ariz., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City.

The remains were cremated. Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home chapel in Alma with the Rev. Del Daire officiating. Inurnment will be in the Alma Cemetery in Alma.

Mr. Ott was born June 19, 1917, to Robert Arnold and Matilda "Tilly" (Mullally) Ott near Naponee. He attended Sindt Rural School District 14 in Franklin County. In 1936 he graduated from Naponee High School. He later attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. On May 28, 1938, he married Phyllis Viola Losey in Smith Center, Kan. They lived on the family farm. In 1960 they moved to Ontario, Calif., where he taught driver training at the Chaffey Union High School District. In 1978 he retired and he and his wife moved to Alma. In 1983 he moved to Sun City.

He was a member of the California State Teacher's Association, the AARP, the Arizona Lawn Bowler's Association and the National Lawn Bowler's Association.

Survivors are one daughter, Dana Ott of Comstock Park, Mich.; one son, Dennis of Rockwall, Texas; one sister, Lola Mae Hawley of Alma; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the Alma Senior Center Building Fund in Alma.

Phyllis V. Ott

Saturday, May 1, 1999

Former Naponee resident Phyllis Viola (Losey) Ott, 81, of Sun City, Ariz., died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Kan.

The remains were cremated. Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home chapel in Alma with the Rev. Del Daire officiating. Inurnment will be in the Alma Cemetery in Alma.

Mrs. Ott was born April 12, 1918, to George Henry and Viola Mary (Cales) Losey near Naponee. In 1927 her parents moved to a farm near Agra, Kan. She lived with her grandmother, Rose Mary Losey, in Naponee and stayed with her parents in the summer. In 1935 she graduated from Naponee High School. On May 28, 1938, she married Harold Edward Ott in Smith Center, Kan. She and her family resided on the family farm near Naponee. From 1955-60 she taught elementary school in Republican City. In 1960 she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching certificate at the Kearney State Teacher's College in Kearney and also moved to Ontario, Calif. In 1964 she earned her master's degree in elementary education and administration at California State University in Los Angeles. She taught elementary school in the Upland, Calif., school district. In 1978 she retired. She and her husband moved back to Alma. In 1983 they moved to Sun City, Ariz. He died Feb. 6, 1999.

She was a member of the California Teacher's Association, the National Education Association, the Arizona Lawn Bowlers Association, the National Lawn Bowlers Association and the AARP.

Survivors are one son, Dennis of Rockwall, Texas; one daughter, Dana Ott of Comstock Park, Mich.; two sisters, Betty Masengill of Fort Worth, Texas, and Doris McGee of Costa Mesa, Calif.; four brothers, Stuart Losey of Longmont, Colo., Dale Losey of Oakley, Kan., Dan Losey of Agra, Kan. and Dallas Joe Losey of Salina, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the Alma Senior Center Building Fund in Alma.

Gayle E. Hadenfeldt

Wednesday, June 2, 1999

Kenesaw resident Gayle E. Hadenfeldt, 63, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kenesaw with the Rev. Paul Duffy officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home of Kenesaw is in charge of arrangements.
