Johanna M. Wunderlich

Sunday, May 30, 1999

Kenesaw resident Johanna M. (Wohlgefahrt) Wunderlich, 93, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Graveside services and burial are 2 p.m. Friday at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with the Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating.

Mrs. Wunderlich was born March 3, 1906, to Herman and Johanne (Neumann) Wohlgefahrt in Peine, State of Braunschweig, Germany. On Oct. 10, 1925, she married Richard O. Wunderlich. In November 1955, she and her family came to Hastings. In July 1985, her husband died.

She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings.

Survivors are three sons, Bernhard of Knoxville, Tenn., Joachim of Hastings and Manfred of Omaha; one sister, Leisel Zaroban of Kenesaw; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Frank; one brother; and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the Haven Home of Kenesaw.

Marjorie C. Townsend

Monday, May 31, 1999

Franklin resident Marjorie C. (Post) Townsend, 90, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at the Franklin Nursing Center in Franklin.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wesleyan Church in Naponee with the Revs. Terry Post and Duane Lauber officiating. Burial will be in Naponee Cemetery in Naponee. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin and from 9:30 a.m. until services at the church Thursday.

Mrs. Townsend was born Sept. 18, 1908, to Jacob and Louisa (Borum) Post near Cedar, Kan. She attended school near Phillipsburg, Kan. In 1926 she graduated from Phillipsburg High School. After graduation she taught school for a short time. During the 1940s she operated the telephone office in Naponee. On Oct. 7, 1946, she married Melvin Earl Townsend in Phillipsburg. They lived in Naponee. Her husband died Sept. 4, 1972. In 1986 she moved to Franklin.

She was a member of the Wesleyan Church and a volunteer at the Franklin Nursing Center.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Patricia Carbonneau

Sunday, May 30, 1999

Hebron resident Patricia (Mulch) Carbonneau, 67, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, in Hebron.

The remains were cremated. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Home chapel in Hebron. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hebron.

Mrs. Carbonneau was born Sept. 8, 1931, to Clarence and Harriet (Whitney) Mulch in Belleville, Kan. In 1952 she married Ernest Carbonneau in Denver. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper. Her husband died March 2, 1989.

Survivors are four sons, James of Hebron, Joseph of Chester, Jerald of Salina, Kan., and Jon of Beatrice; two daughters, Marjorie Vieselmeyer and Mindy Randel, both of Chester; two brothers, James Mulch of Independence, Mo., and Norval Dean of Washington; one sister, Shirley Bullock of Lawrence, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Henry H. Bergen

Monday, May 31, 1999

Sutton resident Henry H. Bergen, 82, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Federated Church in Sutton with the Rev. Bill Jardine officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery in Sutton. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bergen was born March 26, 1917, to Henry and Anna (Penner) Bergen near Henderson. He attended Henderson public schools. In 1935 he graduated from Henderson High School. He then attended York College for three years. On Aug. 22, 1940, he married Sophia Friesen at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. They lived in York where he worked for Grant Chevrolet. He then attended Superior Auction School in Decauter, Ind. In 1945 he moved to Sutton and joined his father's auction and real estate business.

He was a member of the Federated Church in Sutton.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Wanda Hartley of Frederick, Md.; two sons, Bill and Max, both of Sutton; one sister, Mary Ediger of Aurora; one brother, Eugene Bergen of Lushton; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two stepmothers; one sister; and two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the Sutton Education Foundation or the Sutton Community Foundation.

Wilma L. Harman

Friday, June 11, 1999

Hastings resident Wilma L. (Urwiller) Harman, 90, of 1719 W. Fourth St., died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery at Grand Island. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mrs. Harman was born July 20, 1908, to Charles and Elizabeth (Hanover) Urwiller in Sodtown. She graduated from Ravenna High School in 1926. In 1931, she married Ulric Harman. He died in 1978. She moved to Hastings in 1939. She worked at Dutton-Lainson Co., Geyerman's and Weber Clinic, all in Hastings.

She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she had been a choir member and president of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and the YWCA.

Survivors are one daughter, Virginia Sorensen of Keshena, Wis.; one son, the Rev. Charles Harman of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, John Urwiller of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Linda Holtz

Friday, June 11, 1999

Former Hastings resident Linda Darling (Kuper) Holtz, 60, of Las Vegas died Friday, June 11, 1999, in Las Vegas.

Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel and services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be private for the family. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Holtz was born Aug. 19, 1938, to Linn H. and Isabell (Fahrenwald) Kuper in Steele City. She moved to Hastings from Fairbury in 1972. She was a homemaker and worked at the Hastings Regional Center as an alcohol counselor. On Aug. 21, 1993, she married Jerry Holtz in Hastings. They moved to Las Vegas in 1995.

She had been a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Denise Alexander of Ayr and Deirdre Prouty of Wichita, Kan.; two sons, Scott Darling of Agoura Hills, Calif., and Steven R. Darling of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Candace Holtz of Las Vegas; two sisters, Carlene Christ of Lincoln and Lee Ann Davidson of Blue Hill; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Delbert J. Jeppesen

Saturday, June 12, 1999

Ruskin resident Delbert Jens Jeppesen, 85, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Hebron.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin. There will be no visitation. The remains were cremated. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jeppesen was born Nov. 24, 1913, to Jeppe and Anna (Jensen) Jeppesen at Ruskin. On May 5, 1937, he married E. Carol Gridley at Humboldt. His wife died May 21, 1992. He served as mayor of Ruskin.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Ruskin Lions Club.

Survivors are two daughters, Ann Barnett of Concordia, Kan., and Nancy Bohaty of Bellwood; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Warren Gridley Jeppesen; two sisters; and one grandchild.

James F. Bell

Friday, June 11, 1999

Burr Oak, Kan., resident James F. Bell, 75, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at his home.

Services were to be 10:30 a.m. today at Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kan., with the Rev. Lester Snyder officiating. Burial was to be in Burr Oak Cemetery at Burr Oak.

Mr. Bell was born Oct. 12, 1923, to Frank and Cleatta A. (Austin) Bell on a farm near Burr Oak. He graduated from Burr Oak High School. He worked with heavy equipment with D.D. Caldwell of Burr Oak until he retired.

Survivors are two brothers, Max of Burr Oak and Basil of Coos Bay, Ore.; and two sisters, Thelma Clark of Fair Oaks, Calif., and Audrey Longsiene of Beaver City.

Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Sandra W. Tittler

Friday, June 11, 1999

Deshler resident Sandra W. (Wright) Tittler, 50, died Friday, June 11, 1999, in Deshler.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. Phillip Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in Deshler City Cemetery in Deshler. There will be no visitation. The remains were cremated. Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tittler was born Oct. 6, 1948, to Norman and Laura (Alvarez) Wright in Elizabeth, N.J. She was a former resident of Shickley and Hebron. On Nov. 7, 1986, she married Billy E. Tittler in Hebron. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors are her husband; two sons, Kevin Glathar of Jacksonville, N.C., and Merle Glathar Jr. of Lincoln; one daughter, Brenda Steinhauser of Hastings; one brother, Norman Wright of Florida; one sister, Judy Montanya of Nashville, Tenn.; her grandmother, Dorothy Alvarez of Elizabeth, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church Elevator Fund.

Carl D. Kassebaum

Saturday, June 12, 1999

Hebron resident Carl D. Kassebaum, 84, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, in Hebron.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron with the Rev. Bruce W. Berggren officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hebron. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home in Hebron and two hours prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Kassebaum was born Aug. 25, 1914, to William and Anna (Lindemann) Kassebaum at Skiddy, Kan. He was a retired farmer.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Lions Club.

Survivors are his wife, Ardelle; three sons, Roland of Berryton, Kan., Larry of Mesa, Ariz., and Roger of Omaha; one sister, Elsie Hafermann of Hebron; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Robert McDonald

Services for Hastings resident Robert McDonald, 82, who died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park in McCook. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hastings resident Esther M. Hawes of 1738 W. Second St. died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at her home.

Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home.
