Fred Juggert

Hastings resident Fred Juggert, 82, of The Kensington died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Juggert was born March 6, 1917, to Henry and Elizabeth (Miller) Juggert in Hastings. He attended Hastings Senior High School. From 1941-45 he served in the 332nd Ordnance Service Company of the U.S. Army in England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. He received the American Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European/African Mideast Campaign Medal with six stars, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On June 15, 1951, he married Evelyn Jurgena. His wife died Jan. 1. He worked for Timberlock in Hastings.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.
Survivors are four sisters, Esther Meyer and Phyllis Wathen, both of Hastings, Helen Parker of Anaheim, Calif., and Pauline Hull of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two brothers, Reuben of Hastings and Carl of Bell, Calif.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one half-sister.

Margaret P. Meyers

Deshler resident Margaret P. (Schmidt) Meyers, 89, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Deshler. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Deshler Memorial Funeral Home in Deshler.
Mrs. Meyers was born Feb. 28, 1910, to George and Bertha (Grosshans) Schmidt at Deshler. She attended Deshler Public School. In 1929 she graduated from Hebron Academy. She later attended college in Kearney where she received her teaching certificate. On Oct. 29, 1939, she married Hugo Meyers in Deshler. In 1940 she and her husband purchased an interest in the Deshler Roller Mills in Deshler. She taught school at Districts 64 and 84 country schools for 16 years. She later taught school for one year at Alexandria and taught second grade at Deshler Public School for eight years before retiring. She also had a business selling and hanging wallpaper and had an antique business called "The Crystal Cave." In 1952 her husband died.
She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, former president of the Nebraska Tuberculosis Association, past district president of the South Central Nebraska Conference of American Lutheran Church Women, former member of the Deshler Chamber of Commerce and Deshler Women's club, and was entry secretary for the Thayer County Agricultural Society for more than 60 years.
Survivors are two daughters, Paulette Hynek of Deshler and Collene Meyers-Suss of Los Angeles; two sisters, Helen Isernhagen of Deshler and Norma Griffith of Lincoln; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.
Kaylene 'Kay' Borgeson

Hastings resident Kaylene "Kay" (Wagner) Borgeson, 56, of 1632 Crestmoor Drive died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mrs. Borgeson was born Nov. 4, 1942, to Harold and Norma (Moles) Wagner in Hastings. In 1960 she graduated from Hastings Senior High School and married Leon Borgeson. On Feb. 20, 1999, her husband died. She worked for Ben Sherman's in Hastings and for the last 20 years was manager of the Specialty Shoppe in Hastings.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, chairwoman of the St. Cecilia's bazaar and secretary and president of Hastings Catholic Home-School Association.
Survivors are two daughters, Denise Borgeson of Albuquerque, N.M., and Joan Borgeson of Hastings; two sons, Shawn of Tampa, Fla., and Scott of Boston; her father of Hastings; one sister, Diane Brewer of Home, Kan.; two brothers, Gary Wagner of Vacaville, Calif., and Doug Wagner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Emergency Protective Service Shelter in Hastings.
Myrtle Hammett

Superior resident Myrtle (Jensen) Hammett, 94, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy with the Rev. Howard Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Hardy Cemetery in Hardy. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior.
Mrs. Hammett was born May 16, 1905, to Jens P. and Kristin (Petersen) Jensen near Hardy. She attended Churchill rural school. In 1924 she graduated from Hardy High School in Hardy. She taught in rural Nuckolls County school. On Oct. 25, 1926, she married Merle Hammett at her parents' home. They lived on farms near Nora and Olive Hill, Kan. In 1972 they moved to Superior. On Oct. 31, 1981, her husband died.
She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hardy, the Lutheran Church Women and the Visually Impaired group in Shickley.
Survivors are one daughter, Doris Stenson of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Harold; four brothers; seven sisters; and three grandchildren.

Richard L. 'Skip' Lewellyn

Former Tribland resident Richard Leroy "Skip" Lewellyn, 48, of Orlando, Fla., died, at Celebration Health Hospital in Celebration, Fla.
Services were June 19 at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Kissimmee, Fla., with the Rev. Dick Mangham officiating.
Mr. Lewellyn was born Sept. 26, 1950, to Cleo Vickery and Margaret Lewellyn in Fairfield. In 1969 he graduated from Harvard High School in Harvard. In 1979 he moved to central Florida from Wisconsin. He was a glass glazier for All Glass Work in Orlando for the past 18 years.
Survivors are one daughter, Kerryn Frances of Edgerton, Wis.; one son, Daryn of Madison, Wis.; his mother of Lawrence; three sisters, Jody Kroust of Burlington, N.C., Diane Johnson of Campbell and Dixie Pierce of Hordville; and one brother, Ronald of Waynesville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Helen Harris

Hastings resident Helen (Chick) Harris, 97, of 804 Madden Road, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Marks Episcopal Pro-Cathedral Church in Hastings with the Very Rev. Richard Martindale officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings.
Mrs. Harris was born Jan. 22, 1902, to Ferdinand and Mary (Schneller) Chick in Hastings. She was a charter member of the Hastings Woman's Club kindergarten, the first kindergarten in Hastings. She attended Hastings schools through the 11th grade. From 1920-21 she attended college preparatory school at Chatham Episcopal Institute in Chattam, Va. From 1922-26 she attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she earned her bachelor's degree in education and her teacher's certificate. In 1927 she did post-graduate study at the University of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, specializing in adolescent psychology and California law. From 1942-64 she worked for the U.S. Navy, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Bureau of Mines in the Department of the Interin in Washington, D.C. She received a Meritorious Service Award as editorial assistant in the Bureau of Mines.
She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Pro-Cathedral of Hastings, Outlook Book Club and Lochland Country Club. She was a past member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at UNL, Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni Association of Chapter O, P.E.O. in Gary, Ind., and Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni Association in Washington D.C.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Patricia K. Gaylor

Former Hastings resident Patricia Kay (Uhrmacher) Gaylor, 52, of Schuyler, died Monday, June 14, 1999, in Lincoln.
Services were Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Donald R. Legacie officiating.
Mrs. Gaylor was born Sept. 21, 1946, to Walter and Vernabelle Uhrmacher in Hastings. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School and Hastings College. On March 12, 1968, she married David Lee Gaylor Sr. in Hastings. They divorced in January 1989.
Survivors are her mother; two daughters, Laura L. Johnson and Melissa S. Gaylor, both of Schuyler; two sons, David Lee Jr. and Patrick W., both of Schuyler; one sister, Phyllis Ridge of Sioux City, Iowa; one brother, Ronald of Schuyler; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorials may be given to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schuyler.
Mary R. Simmons

Hastings resident Mary Rita Fern (Buttell) Simmons, 65, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Berean Bible Church with the Rev. Steve Hodgson officiating. Burial will be in White Hill Cemetery near Minden. Visitation is 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mrs. Simmons was born Jan. 16, 1934, to Gerald and Margaret (Kahler) Buttell in Hastings. In 1952 she graduated from St. Cecilia High School in Hastings. She was homecoming queen, Miss Hastings and a candidate for Miss Nebraska. In 1954 she married Wally Fern. She worked at the Hastings Regional Center, Children's Ark and R.S.V.P. and was a legal secretary for Helmann and Sullivan. In 1974 her husband died. She was working as a bookkeeper for the Harsh family at the time of her death.
Survivors are four daughters, Jaynee Fern of Hastings, Lisa Engebritson of Columbia, Mo., Rebecca Manasco of Tulsa, Okla., and Melinda Goedert of Homosassa, Fla.; one son, the Rev. Rick Fern of Sydney, Australia; one sister, Mona Healy of San Diego; one brother, Jerry of Hastings; five grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Berean Bible Church or the Rev. Rick Fern Ministries.
Marjorie W. Hartman

Former Minden resident Marjorie W. (Christensen) Hartman, 77, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista with the Rev. Richard Jebsen officiating and 10 a.m. Friday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg Cemetery in Minden. Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory in Bella Vista is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hartman was born March 19, 1922, to William and Emma Christensen in Kearney County. She graduated from Minden High School in Minden and attended Hastings College in Hastings. She later directed the adult choir at the United Presbyterian Church in Minden and was active in young people's groups. She worked in county and government offices in Minden and Hastings and for 12 years in the music department at Hastings College. On Aug. 7, 1946, she married LaVern H. Hartmann. In 1990 she and her husband moved to Bella Vista. There she worked part-time for Cooper Communities Inc.
She was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista, where she sang in the choir and was a member of women's groups; and Bella Vista Women's Chorus.
Survivors are her husband; three sons, Timothy of Missoula, Mont., Jeffrey of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Michael of Phoenix; three sisters, Lavonne Grassmeyer of Columbus, Lois Christensen and Marlys Lundeen, both of Minden; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista or the American Cancer Society in Little Rock, Ark.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Associated Church in Haywarden, Iowa, with the Rev. Laird Keever officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Alma Cemetery in Alma. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Haywarden, Iowa, and 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma with the family present from 7-8 p.m.
Survivors are his father; his mother, former Hastings resident Rachael (Rodine) Dow of Haywarden; one sister; and one brother.
