Former Nuckolls County resident Violet May Lawson, 81, of Wichita, Kan., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Wichita.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Chapel in Wichita. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Cemetery in rural Superior with the Rev. Harold Backus officiating. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Lawson was born May 26, 1918, in Nuckolls County. She was a retired machinist from Coleman Co.
Survivors are three sisters, Ruth Suhler of Wichita, Neva Nielsen of Superior and Erma Wachtin of Concorde, Calif.

Brady resident Albert O. Borm, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Brady.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Burial will be in the Gaslin Cemetery near Brady. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Blase Memorial Funeral Home chapel in Gothenburg.
Survivors are one son; four daughters, including Carol Rose of Edgar; two sisters; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Lisa S. Schnase-Wampole

St. Libory resident Lisa S. Schnase-Wampole, 30, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. John Kunze officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. The remains were cremated. There is no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Schnase-Wampole's father, Gary Schnase, is formerly of Hastings.

Harm Janssen

Glenvil resident Harm Janssen, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Glenvil with the Revs. Les and Bonnie Larsen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery near Glenvil. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Janssen was born Aug. 23, 1914, to Henry E. and Anna (Jurgens) Janssen in Adams County. On Oct. 30, 1949, he married Helene Enninga. He retired from farming in 1979. His wife died in 1996.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors are two sons, Keith of Glenvil and Merlin of Hastings; and one daughter, Delores Janssen of Hastings.
Francis T. Sondag

Hastings resident Francis T. Sondag, 85, of The Kensington, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Hastings.
Rosary is 7 p.m. today at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Larry Gyhra officiating. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa, with the Rev. Paul Monahan officiating. Burial with military rites will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Portsmouth. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church in Portsmouth.
Mr. Sondag was born Oct. 6, 1914, to Joseph P. and Mary (Hammes) Sondag in Portsmouth. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Portsmouth in 1931. In 1940 he graduated from Iowa State University. He then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-46. On June 9, 1944, he married Dorothy M. Gale. They lived in Clarinda, Iowa, where he ran a farm implement business until he retired. On June 26, 1970, his wife died. In 1978 he moved to Lake Worth, Fla. He moved to Hastings in 1996.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings and American Legion Post No. 98 in Clarinda and an honorary member of Knights of Columbus Council 1479 Shenandoah, Iowa. He was a former member of the Lions Club in Clarinda.
Survivors are one son, Robert of Hastings; two sisters, Barbara Heller and Suzette Langenfeld, both of Portsmouth; one brother, Richard of Portsmouth; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Memorials may be given to Hastings Catholic Schools, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church or St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
LaVerne E. 'Bud' Ernst

Hastings resident LaVerne E. "Bud" Ernst, 84, of 1918 W. B St., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hastings with the Rev. Barry Rempp officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8-11 a.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mr. Ernst was born Aug. 18, 1915, to Roy and Edith (Ellis) Ernst in Kenesaw. He graduated from Kenesaw High School and then farmed in the Kenesaw area. In 1942 he graduated from air craft mechanic school in Tulsa, Okla. He served in the U.S. military during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations and on Trinidad Island. On July 12, 1943, he married Lois Swanson. After the war, he worked for Stahnke Plumbing and Heating in Hastings and then at the Naval Ammunitions Depot near Hastings as a plumber. He worked at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1959 he returned to Hastings and worked for Stewart Plumbing. He retired in 1980.
He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and the VFW Post 10562 North.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Larry of Deshler; two sisters, Beulah Mapes of Hastings and Maxine Schiefelbein of Exeter; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard; and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Elmer D. Robinson Sr.

Sutton resident Elmer Dale Robinson Sr., 75, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Federated Church in Sutton with the Rev. Bill Jardine officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery with military rites conducted by Sutton American Legion Post No. 61. Kohler Mortuary in Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Robinson was born Dec. 2, 1924, to William and Lulu Louise (Thumann) Robinson in Belvidere. He attended Cottage School in Sutton and Sutton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Aug. 6, 1945, he married Alta R. Willcock in Belleville, Kan. They lived in Sutton where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 31 years. He also drove trucks for Dahlsten truck line in Clay Center and Ted Schroetlin truck line in Sutton. He retired from the railroad in 1987 and then worked for Gemar Pork in Sutton.
He was a member of the Federated Church, Argonne American Legion Post No. 61 and Burlington Northern Railroad Club in Hastings. He was a past member of the Sutton Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Elmer Jr. and Wayne of Sutton; one brother, Donald of Hastings; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Charlotte A. Keever

Hastings resident Charlotte A. Keever, 83, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Perkins.
Private family services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home chapel in Red Cloud with the Revs. Roger Trautman and Clifford Ohman officiating. Burial will be in the Cowles Cemetery.
Mrs. Keever was born Nov. 15, 1916, to Jesse Hamilton and Celia Florence (Fuller) Marshbanks in Cowles. She graduated from Cowles High School in 1935. She moved to Red Cloud where she worked as a waitress at the Royal Cafe. She then moved to Willits, Calif. Two years later she moved to Wyoming where she cooked at a dude ranch for a number of years. In 1941 she moved to Holdrege and returned to Red Cloud in 1951. She worked at the JC Penney store in Red Cloud and was a cashier for the Red Cloud theater. On Sept. 28, 1970, she married Ira Keever and they moved to Sterling, Colo., where she worked for JC Penney. On Jan. 22, 1986, her husband died. She moved to Hastings in 1992.
Survivors are one daughter, Heather Graves of Grand Island; four stepdaughters, Donna Ohman of Arvada, Colo., Carolyn Brookman of Westlake Village, Calif., Iola Trautmann of Bakersfield, Calif., and Beth Krems of Grant; two sisters, Dorothea Silsby of Burr Oak, Kan., and Ethel Jones of Pahrump, Nev.; and 15 stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one stepson, Mark; and two sisters.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice at Perkins Pavilion.
Charles Schuck

Hastings resident Charles Schuck, 73, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Perkins Pavilion.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings. Burial will be at a later date. The remains were cremated. There is no visitation.
Mr. Schuck was born Dec. 7, 1926, to Calvin L. and Mary (Pidrick) Schuck in Arkansas. He was a student at Martin Luther Homes in Axtell. In 1982 he moved to Good Samaritan Village.

Arthur H. Buss

Hastings resident Arthur Herman Buss, 86, of 3300 W. Prairie Lake Road died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Richard A. Kothe officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Blue Hill. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Buss was born Oct. 10, 1913, to John Peter and Anna (Johnson) Buss in Webster County. On April 15, 1942, he married Hedwig "Hattie" C. Scheiding near Rosemont. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-43. He and his wife moved to Adams County in 1943 where he farmed until retirement.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a former trustee. He was a former volunteer for the Adams County Rural Fire Department.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Iona Grundmann of Great Falls, Mont.; three sons, Duane of Grand Island and Larry and Roger, both of Hastings; four sisters, Adeline Goos of Hastings and Leona Ruhs, Evelyn Magarin and Maybel Scheiding, all of Blue Hill; one brother, Melvin of Hastings; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to the church.
Robert G. Griess

Former Sutton resident Robert Gideon Griess, 63, of Lincoln died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kohler Mortuary in Sutton. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery.
Mr. Griess was born July 11, 1936, to Gideon and Johanna (Griess) Griess near Sutton. He graduated in 1953 from Sutton High School and in 1959 from Oklahoma State Technical College with a certificate in accounting. He worked for Lincoln Steel in Lincoln from 1964-68. On Sept. 3, 1966, he married Sharon Kaye Ball in Lincoln. From 1968-74 he worked at Goodwill Industries in Santa Ana, Calif.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Kevin of Lincoln; four brothers, Lawrence, Wesley and Ken, all of Sutton, and Don of Des Moines, Iowa; six sisters, Ann Shunkwiler and Jeanie Rath, both of Lincoln, Inez Krass of Raymond, Aldine Rowe of Burr, Erna Griess of Glendale, Ariz., and Kathy Harrison of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Raymond J. Keeten

Kenesaw resident Raymond J. Keeten, 68, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the North Shore Assembly of God Church in Hastings with the Rev. Jeff Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Kenesaw American Legion Post No. 268. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw.
Mr. Keeten was born May 6, 1931, to Clarence and Ethel (Philbrick) Keeten in Kensington, Kan. He graduated from Kensington High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54 during the Korean War. He was stationed in San Diego, Great Lakes, Ill., and aboard the destroyer escort ship USS Chester T. Obrien. On Aug. 27, 1955, he married Bonnie L. Thomas. He worked for several farmers in the Naponee area before working in the timber and saw mill industry in Canyonville, Ore. In 1959 he began working as a welder at Dutton-Lainson Co. in Hastings. He retired as a parts inspector in 1986.
He was a member of the Pleasant Green Assembly of God Church in Naponee.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Arlene Nielsen of Ogallala; two sons, Allen of Las Vegas and Arden of Minden; two sisters, Berdena Barnes and Loretta Whetstine, both of Alma; one brother, Paul of Jamestown, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; and one grandchild.
