Vera R. Parker

Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999

Kenesaw resident Vera R. (Widener) Parker, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at the Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church in Kenesaw. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Parker was born March 3, 1914, to Frank and Sara (McCann) Widener at Kennard. She attended Kennard County School and Lincoln High School. On March 3, 1936, she married Paul E. Parker at Smith Center, Kan. They moved to Hastings where she worked at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. In 1942 they moved to a farm near Kenesaw. For two years beginning in 1955, she owned and operated Parker Cafe in Kenesaw. She then worked at Kenesaw Clinic, Kenesaw Haven Home and Hastings Regional Center until she retired in 1975. On Nov. 23, 1988, her husband died. She moved to Haven Home in 1993.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its Women's Group.

Survivors are one son, Jim of Kenesaw; one sister, Helen Edmondson of Kenesaw; and six grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, RoAnn; five brothers; and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Edna C. Pigeon

Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999

Hastings resident Edna C. (Cable) Pigeon, 88, of The Homestead died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Rosary is 10 a.m. Tuesday with services following at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mrs. Pigeon was born Sept. 21, 1911, to Earl and Katie (Kohl) Cable in Hastings. On Nov. 26, 1932, she married Louie A. Pigeon. She worked for Brach-Thompson in Hastings. On July 8, 1999, her husband died.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Altar Society.

Survivors are three daughters, Deloris Durham of Fountain Valley, Calif., Linda Nohr of Poway, Calif., and Cindy Bonahoom of Hastings; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Dan; one brother; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Evelyn E. Detamore

Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999

Giltner resident Evelyn Elizabeth (Bye) Detamore, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Giltner with the Rev. Dwight DeLaet officiating. Burial will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

Mrs. Detamore was born Jan. 20, 1918, to Harvey and Minnie (Croxen) Bye in Giltner. She grew up in Giltner and graduated from high school there. On April 26, 1939, she married Donald Detamore in Modesto, Calif. They farmed near Giltner.

She was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church. She also was past president of the Independent Order of Foresters, past member of the Trail Blazers Camping Club and an honorary member of the Glamorous Giltner Gals Club.

Survivors are her husband; one son, Frank of Hastings; four brothers, Harold and Raymond, both of Oakdale, Calif., Keith of Modesto and Clarence of Fountain Valley, Calif.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister; one brother; and one grandchild.

Edwin Manchester

Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999

Sutton resident Edwin Manchester, 92, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Kohler Mortuary chapel in Sutton with the Rev. Bill Jardine officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Sutton American Legion Post No. 61.

Mr. Manchester was born Oct. 6, 1907, to Chester Seward and Marie Katherine (Wohlenberg) Manchester in Lincoln. He attended Lincoln Public Schools. On Jan. 4, 1939, he married Viola Mae Schleuning in Salina, Kan. They lived in Lincoln where he worked as a salesman for the Dry Cleaner Supply Co. He then worked for 10 years at the Nebraska State Department of Roads. In 1971 he and his wife moved to Sutton.

He was a member of the Sutton Argonne American Legion and a past member of Lincoln American Legion.

Survivor is his wife.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Edna C. Pigeon

Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999

Hastings resident Edna C. Pigeon, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

Viola M. Ham

Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999

Clay Center resident Viola M. (Stanton) Ham, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Clay Center with the Rev. Stan Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Clay Center Cemetery. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ham was born Feb. 6, 1908, to Charles A. and Arvilla (Shane) Stanton in Clay Center. She graduated in 1926 from Clay Center High School. On Feb. 22, 1928, she married Reuben E. Ham in Clay Center. They farmed near Clay Center until retiring in 1974 when they moved into Clay Center. On Feb. 22, 1986, her husband died.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ and Women's Fellowship and was a past Sunday School teacher. She was a charter member for the Rolling Pin Extension Club and involved in 4-H and the Clay County Fair.

Survivors are one daughter, Wanda Hanson of Schuyler; one son, Richard "Bud" of Clay Center; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Donald E. Bradshaw

Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999

Bloomington resident Donald E. Bradshaw, 59, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bloomington. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Bradshaw was born Aug. 20, 1940, to Roland James and Elsie Maye (McAtee) Bradshaw in Holdrege. He attended Ground Hog Rural School south of Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1958. He worked as a mechanic and owned and operated his own garage in Bloomington.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Bloomington Community Club. He also was a fireman and first responder in Bloomington.

Survivors are one son, Donald Eddy of Omaha; two daughters, Jennifer Bradshaw of Red Cloud and Angie Douglas of Kansas City, Kan.; one brother, Sid Bradshaw of Bloomington; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harold J. 'Hons' Torske

Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1999

Former Heartwell resident Harold John "Hons" Torske, 78, of Hartwell, Australia, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1999, in Australia.

Services were held at Lepine Funeral Home chapel in Camberwell, Australia, with the Rev. Leslie Bawden officiating.

Mr. Torske was born Feb. 3, 1921, to John and Maggie (Mathers) Torske in Heartwell. He attended school in Heartwell. He then served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman during World War II. He married Patricia Major. In 1955 he and his wife moved to Australia.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Michelle Torske of Hartwell, Australia; and four sisters, Marguerite Hall and Mildred Hoover, both of Marsing, Idaho, Marie Bloomgrem of Loveland, Colo., and Violet Baker of Hastings.

DeLores Fitzke

Hastings resident DeLores (Wright) Fitzke, 67, of 307 Greenhouse Court died at her home.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fitzke was born Aug. 1, 1932, to Henry and Evalene (Gullion) Wright in Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island High School in 1950. On June 14, 1953, she married Ronald Fitzke in Grand Island. They moved to Boulder, Colo., where she worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. She continued to work for the telephone company when they moved to Denver. In 1965 they moved to Grand Island and then to Hastings in 1967. Her husband died in March 1997.

She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and YWCA. She was active in the Adams County Republican Party and League of Women Voters.

Survivors are two sons, R. Scott of Littleton, Colo., and Tod of Denver; one daughter, Melanie Parker of Euless, Texas; two sisters, Diana Walters of Parker, Colo., and Dottie Roggy of Plant City, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the church or Mary Lanning Hospice.

Harlin A. Vieselmeyer

Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999

Hebron resident Harlin A. Vieselmeyer, 83, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in Lincoln.

Services are to be at a later date. A private burial will be at the Deshler City Cemetery. There is no visitation. Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vieselmeyer was born Jan. 9, 1916, to Reinhold and Emma Vieselmeyer near Ruskin. He served as a flight officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and earned the distinguished flying cross and the Air Medal with one cluster. On Feb. 12, 1944, he married Geneva Hunnicutt in Oklahoma City. He worked for J.C. Nichols Co. in Kansas City, Mo., for 31 years as a maintenance engineer. He lived in Overland Park, Kan., and Deshler before moving to Hebron.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Deshler.

Survivors are one daughter, Thane Ann Malison of Dunlap, Ill.; one brother, Orval of Elmira, N.Y.; two sisters, Lillian Cocuzzo and Evalin Lillich, both of Superior; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers.

Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler.

George J. Petr

Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999

Former Hastings resident George J. Petr, 83, of Wichita, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Catholic Care Center in Wichita.

Rosary is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Petr was born Feb. 15, 1916, to John J. and Mary (Karmazin) Petr in Lawrence. He graduated in 1932 from Deweese High School and in 1936 from Hastings College. On Oct. 19, 1949, he married Loretta Schreiter in Nebraska City. He moved from Deweese to Hastings in 1966. He was an instructor at Central Community College-Hastings.

He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Catholic Workman, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Crosier Apostolate. He was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce Ag Council, Deweese Community Club and South Central Nebraska Czech Society where he served as treasurer.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Theresa Petr of Columbus and Katharine Kachovec of Hamilton, Ohio; two sons, Donald of Wichita and David of Escondido, Calif.; one sister, Rose Hansen of Deweese; two brothers, Emil of Brazil and Edward of Hastings; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the St. Cecilia's Church Renovation Fund or the Catholic Care Center.

Otto G. Schuebel

Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999

Former Hastings resident Otto G. Schuebel, 88, of Grand Island died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings with the Rev. Dominic Pecoraro officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mr. Schuebel was born March 15, 1911, to Otto and Karoline (Seutter) Schuebel in Scotia. He married Charlotte Gardner. He was a self-employed laborer. In August 1967 his wife died.

He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Grand Island.

He is survived by his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters; one brother; and one great-grandchild.
