Elmer H. Graham

Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999

Former Hastings resident Elmer H. Graham, 87, of Loveland, Colo., died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, in Loveland.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland with the Rev. Glen Schlecht officiating. Burial will be in the Loveland Burial Park. Visitation is 1-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland and prior to services Monday at the church.

Mr. Graham was born Aug. 21, 1912, to Harry S. and Ella Louise (Kent) Graham at Hastings. He moved with his family to Sheridan Ranch in Adams County and attended country school through eighth grade and then high school. He also attended Hastings Business College. On Nov. 20, 1934, he married Agnes A. Meyer. He worked for his father at Producers Dairy in Hastings. From 1940-56 he worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings. In 1960 he moved to Loveland where he worked for TWX for 13 years before retiring. He drove the school bus for Loveland School District for several years.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Donna Waldron of Denver, Judi Jackson of Loveland and Mary McChesney of Ogallala; one son, Kenneth of Longmont; his stepmother, Murl Zimmerman of Hastings; one sister, Ruth Nelson of Hastings; one stepsister, Harriet McFeely of Hastings; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Memorials may be given to the church in care of the funeral home, 1102 Lincoln Ave., Loveland, CO 80537.

Eleanor C. Spitz

Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999

Kenesaw resident Eleanor C. (Paulsen) Spitz, 92, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Rosary is 7 p.m. Sunday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel and services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spitz was born April 23, 1907, to Nels and Marie (Larke) Paulsen in York County. On Aug. 28, 1928, she married Louis J. Spitz in Exeter. They lived in Exeter until 1936 when they moved to Hastings. They founded Spitz Foundry in Hastings. On June 19, 1990, her husband died.

She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and a former president of its Altar Society. She also had served as president of the Hastings Women's Club. She was a member of the China Belles and was a Pink Lady with the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years.

Survivors are two daughters, Janet Whitaker of Canton, Ohio, and Ann Kump of Hastings; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and a granddaughter.

Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels.

Unadale Casler

Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999

Former Tribland area resident Unadale (Lehman) Casler, 88, of Estes Park, Colo., died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Allnutt Funeral Service chapel in Estes Park with the Rev. Frank Gunter officiating.

Mrs. Casler was born Sept. 24, 1911, to Joseph F. and Mabel (Johnson) Lehman in Nelson. She graduated from Hastings High School. On Sept. 6, 1933, she married Gilbert Casler in Papillion. She moved to Estes Park in 1979. On March 13, 1994, her husband died.

Survivors are one son, Jerry of Estes Park; two sisters, Helen Oder and Ernabee Webb, both of Greeley, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Gil, and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Estes Valley or Meals On Wheels in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Ave., Estes Park, CO 80517.

Iva P. Rainforth

Monday, Nov. 29, 1999

Former Tribland area resident Iva P. (Price) Rainforth, 89, of Wood River died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Edgewood Vista in Grand Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with the Rev. John McKinley officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.

Mrs. Rainforth was born Nov. 13, 1910, to William and Nellie (Stafford) Price at Rosedale. She attended school in Rosedale until moving with her family near Hershey in 1924. She graduated in 1930 from Star School near Hershey. She then attended Denver Children's Hospital Nurses Training for two years. She moved to Hastings and worked in retail. On Aug. 1, 1934, she married Howard R. Rainforth at the Evangelical Church in Hastings. They lived in Cairo for one year and then farmed near Rosedale for three years. They moved south of Wood River in 1938 where they farmed.

She was a member of the Wood River First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Woman's Association and taught Sunday school. She also was a member of the Hall County Extension Club.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Joan Apfel of Grand Island and Rosemary McLey of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; two sons, Jerry of North Loup and Dean of Grand Island; one sister, Evelyn Stevens of San Diego; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the church or the donor's choice.

Loretta V. Henry

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999

Kenesaw resident Loretta V. Henry, 64, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Haven Home. Burial will be in Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw.

Miss Henry was born June 4, 1935, in Ridgeway, Mo. She moved to the Haven Home in 1982.

Yeteive Nielsen

Friday, Aug. 6, 1999

Superior resident Yeteive (Gharring) Nielsen, 81, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, in Superior.

Services were to be 11 a.m. today at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Mark Diehl officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.

Mrs. Nielsen was born Jan. 12, 1918, to Earl and Ruby (Ferebee) Gharring near Nelson. She graduated from Deweese High School. On Jan. 28, 1936, she married Jens Peter Nielsen in Mankato, Kan. Her husband died on April 29, 1991.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Superior, the Baptist Women's Group, the Ladies Golf Group, and the Olive Chapter No. 63 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors are two sons, Larry of Smithville, Texas, and Doug of Crete; two daughters, Dorthea Holt of Shelbyville, Tenn., and Gloria Nobles of Superior; one brother, Bryce Gharring of San Diego; 12 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Robert D. Beavers

Friday, Aug. 6, 1999

Former Tribland area resident Robert Dale Beavers, 87, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Plains in Edgar with the Rev. Rick Cepris officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Beavers was born June 12, 1912, to Gardie and Maude (Rathbun) Beavers near Angus. He graduated from Davenport High School. On May 19, 1933, he married Gertrude Clark in Mankato, Kan. He was wounded while serving in the 83rd Infantry Division during the invasion of Normandy in World War II. He spent the next two and a half years in veterans hospitals recovering. He lived in Edgar where he owned and operated Beaver's Insurance Agency until he retired in 1976. In 1999 he and his wife moved to Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.

He was a member of the Church of the Plains, American Legion and former member of the Masonic Lodge in Edgar. He also served as secretary for the Horseman's Rocky Mountain Division of Horseman's Benevolent Protective Association for 25 years.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Dorothy Bernhardt of Plattsmouth; one son, Robert of Longmont, Colo.; one sister, Cleo Beavers of Fairbury; three brothers, Virgil of Grand Island, Don of Fort Collins, Colo., and Gardie of Carleton; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the Church of the Plains.

Floyd A. Anderson

Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999

Ong resident Floyd A. Anderson, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, in Hastings.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Ong with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Ong Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. today at Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva.

Mr. Anderson was born April 11, 1918, to Gustav and Annie (Nelson) Anderson in Ong. He worked as a farmer.

Survivors are his wife, Bernice; five sons, Floyde, Rolland and Robert, all of Ong, Kenneth of Ravenna and Curtis of Chandler, Ariz.; one sister, Gladys Nunns of Geneva; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the donor's choice or the family.

Viola C. Patzer

Friday, Aug. 6, 1999

Former Adams County resident Viola C. (Berndt) Patzer, 78, of Longmont, Colo., died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Longmont United Hospital.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont with the Rev. Kent Schnegelberger officiating. Burial will be in Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. Patzer was born Feb. 21, 1921, to Henry and Minnie (Utecht) Berndt in Kenesaw. She was raised in Kenesaw. On April 20, 1941, she married Orris Patzer in Little Rock, Ark. For the next 24 years she lived where her husband's military career took them. They moved to Hastings after her husband's retirement until 1978 when they moved to Longmont. She worked for several years for Meadow Gold, demonstrating products in local grocery stores.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and its Priscilla-Esther Circle, the Golden Agers and in Bible study.

Survivors are her husband; one son, Michael of Etowah, N.C.; one daughter, Paula Valdez of Thornton, Colo.; three sisters, Hazel Schukei of Kenesaw, Lois Frerichs of Hastings and Dolores Prota of Boston; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Leota M. Billings

Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999

Franklin resident Leota M. (Johnson) Billings, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin with the Revs. Baron and Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Billings was born Oct. 16, 1926, to Lester C. and Jessie (Baker) Johnson in Franklin County. She attended rural school in Franklin County and Franklin High School. On Oct. 20, 1945, she married Arthur Dale Billings in Phillipsburg, Kan. Her husband died July 11, 1990.

Survivors are one daughter, Diane Fries of Franklin; one brother, Dale Billings of Grand Island; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Luella M. Varah

Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999

Doniphan resident Luella M. (Gartner) Varah, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 8-11 a.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mrs. Varah was born Jan. 9, 1925, to Henry and Fannie (Janssen) Gartner in Glenvil. She attended country school in rural Hastings and then Hastings Public Schools. On Dec. 18, 1944, she married Carl Varah. She and her husband then moved to Doniphan in 1947. Since 1963 she owned and operated Luella's Ceramics near Doniphan.

She was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Third City Ceramic Association.

Survivors are her husband; three daughters, Loretta Broberg of Sioux City, Iowa, and Connie Hoagland and Bonnie Will, both of Hastings; one son, Tim of Grand Island; three sisters, Alma Woodward and Fannie Hill, both of Hastings, and Mary Alexander of Grand Island; four brothers, Elmer of Hansen, Harold of Ayr, Everet of Manitou Springs, Colo., and Donald of Giltner; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda; two sisters; and four brothers.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Mildred M. Lambert

Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999

Smith Center, Kan., resident Mildred Mae (Baker) Lambert 94, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Smith County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Smith Center.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Simmons Mortuary chapel in Smith Center with the Rev. Freda Steele officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Smith Center. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Mrs. Lambert was born March 30, 1905, to Edward M. and Sadie Elizabeth (Robertson) Baker in Smith County, Kan. On Feb. 27, 1914, she married Newell Lambert. Her husband died in 1997.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, both of Thornburg, Kan.

Survivors are three sons, Dwayne and Joe, both of Smith Center, and Dale of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Velda Schenk and Elsie Kugler, both of Smith Center; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death three sisters; and four brothers.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Thornburg.
