Minden resident Sarah Raun, 97, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at the Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden.

Services are pending with Layton Funeral Home of Minden.

Albert E. Arp

Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999

Sutton resident Albert E. Arp, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at the Sutton Community Home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Federated Church in Sutton with the Rev. Bill Jardine officiating. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Arp was born July 25, 1907, to Henry and Emma (Karras) Arp near Harvard. He attended East Lynn country school near Harvard. He began farming with his father after eighth grade. On Jan. 26, 1930, he married Lillian Milroy in Harvard. They lived on a farm near Harvard. After the Naval Ammunition Depot bought their farm, they moved near Sutton and continued farming. On Dec. 22, 1963, his wife died. He built his own home in 1975 and lived there until moving to the Sutton Community Home in 1998.

He was a member of the Federated Church. He also served on the church board and the rural fire district board of Grafton. He was the major contributor to the Sutton Senior Community Center.

Survivors are three daughters, Norma Finnegan of Sutton, Donna Kleinschmidt of Grafton and Joanne Hornbacher of York; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters; six brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to the Federated Church or the Sutton Community Home.

Nicholas W. Heltenberg

Sunday, July 31, 1999

Hebron resident Nicholas W. Heltenberg, 74, died Sunday, July 31, 1999, in Hebron.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blue Valley Lutheran Care Home in Hebron with the Rev. Michael Osberg officiating. Burial will be in Hebron City Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home in Hebron.

Mr. Heltenberg was born Dec. 16, 1924, to Joseph and Olive Heltenberg in Ames, Iowa. He lived in Kearney and Hastings, where he worked as a fry cook at the Hastings Regional Center. In 1977 he moved to the Blue Valley Lutheran Homes in Hebron.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Corbin T. Jones

Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999

Corbin Taylor Jones, son of Jill Jones of Hastings, was stillborn Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings with the Rev. Steve Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Guide Rock Cemetery in Guide Rock. There will be no viewing.

Survivors are his mother; grandparents, Lawrence Jones and Velda Montey, both of Hastings, and Pam Stenka of Blue Hill; stepgrandmother, Vicky Jones of Hastings; great-grandparents, Donald and Beverly Jones and Charlie and Judy Pearson, all of Red Cloud and Adeline Wahl of Hastings.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Luella Varah

Doniphan resident Luella Varah, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are pending with Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings.

Margaret C. McMahon

Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999

Blue Hill resident Margaret C. (Meyer) McMahon, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at the Blue Hill Care Center.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jim Witt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery near Blue Hill. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McMahon was born April 6, 1909, to Julius and Minnie (Muhleisen) Meyer in Blue Hill. On Sept. 29, 1940, she married Gilbert A. McMahon in Blue Hill. She worked for Glenwood Telephone Co., Bob Meyer Insurance and Tom Meyer Insurance, all in Blue Hill. Her husband died Jan. 23, 1964.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Women's Club and Project Club. She also worked as a volunteer at the Red Cross Blood Bank.

Survivors are two daughters, Mary Scheffel of San Diego and Sherri Miller of Anoka, Minn.; one sister, Dorothy Hale of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Lloyd of Iowa City, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill Library Fund or the Blue Hill Care Center.

Corbin T. Jones

Matthew S. Hinrichs

Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999

Former Tribland area resident Matthew S. Hinrichs, 20, of Smyrna, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, in a camping accident near Tallulah Falls, Ga.

Rosary will be 10 a.m. and services are 10:30 a.m, both Thursday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with the Rev. Dennis Hunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery near Deweese. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hinrichs was born July 17, 1979, to Steven D. and Debra E. (Gestring) Hinrichs in Hastings. He attended School District No. 60 and Adams Central School near Hastings until seventh grade. He then attended and graduated from Sandy Creek High School near Fairfield in 1998. He worked with his father on the Spring Ranch Tree Farm before moving to Smyrna where he worked as a carpenter.

He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church.

Survivors are his parents of Fairfield; one sister, Kailey Hinrichs of Fairfield; one brother, Ryan of Glenvil; and his grandparents, Jack and LaMars Gestring of Blue Hill and Dale and Lois Hinrichs of Glenvil.

Memorials may be given to the Matthew S. Hinrichs Memorial Fund.

Genevieve Hrabe

Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999

Former Hastings resident Genevieve (Keilholtz) Hrabe, 81, of Stockton, Kan., died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus in Kansas.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with the Rev. Tim Ault-Duell officiating. Burial will be in the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hrabe was born Jan. 15, 1918, to Ralph V. and Esther L. (Johnson) Keilholtz in Logan, Kan. She and her family moved to Stockton. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1936. She attended business college in Hastings. On Aug. 17, 1938, she married John Hrabe in Stockton. They moved to a farm in Rooks County, Kan. Her husband died Nov. 21, 1985. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Stockton United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and E.H.U. She was a board member for the Hrabe Country School and was a Stockton-area 4-H leader.

Survivors are two daughters, Jonita Williams of Stockton and Connie Cramer of Hastings; one son, Larry Hrabe of Hays, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Wilma Turnbull of Stockton and Delores O'Rorke of Salina; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bill Regan

Monday, Aug. 30, 1999

Lebanon, Kan., resident Bill Regan, 74, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kan.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev. Frank Defisher officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Esbon, Kan.

Mr. Regan was born Nov. 4, 1924, to Edward and Beulah (Anderson) Regan in Lebanon. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1943. He served in World War II. After his discharge, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1950. He farmed in the Lebanon area, worked as a pharmaceutical salesman for a few years and was the State Farm Insurance agent in Red Cloud for 15 years. He later farmed in the Lebanon area and independently sold crop insurance under Rain and Hail Insurance Co.

He was a member of the Esbon American Legion Perry A. Lamb Post No. 368.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Memorials may be given to the Esbon Perry A. Lamb Post No. 368.

Edna P. Williams

Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999

Hastings resident Edna P. (Barrows) Williams, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Campbell with the Rev. Mark Diehl officiating. Burial will be in the New Virginia Cemetery southeast of Campbell. Campbell Funeral Home of Campbell is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams was born Oct. 10, 1929, to Harry M. and Joy (Stratton) Barrows in Red Cloud. She graduated from Red Cloud High School. On Sept. 24, 1960, she married Clyde R. Williams in Franklin. They farmed north of Inavale until 1966 when they moved to Campbell. In 1997 they moved to Hastings. On Dec. 18, 1997, her husband died.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Campbell.

Survivors are four sons, Robert Metcalf of Las Vegas, Ric Metcalf of Melrose, N.M., Jerry Metcalf of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and John Williams of Hastings; one daughter, Dena Buffington of Arlington, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Vanek of Phoenix, Bertha Suttner of Zapata, Texas, and Edith Crowley of Lexington; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Dallas A. Mattison

Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999

Red Cloud resident Dallas A. Mattison, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Anderson Kwankin officiating. Burial will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mattison was born July 5, 1916, to Emil and Mamie (Arvidson) Mattison in Campbell. He attended rural School Districts 65 and 51 and Inavale High School. On Feb. 7, 1943, he married Dorothy Amack in Red Cloud. They farmed near Guide Rock and Inavale. In 1980, he retired and moved into Red Cloud.

He was a member of the Red Cloud United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Doreen Greenhalgh of Guide Rock and Deanna Adams of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Beverly Fort of Allentown, N.J.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church or the Webster County Community Hospital Nurses Scholarship Fund.

Clarence L. Crandell

Friday, Aug. 27, 1999

Former Tribland area resident Clarence LeRoy Crandell, 67, of Spanaway, Wash., died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, in Spanaway.

There will be no services. Burial will be in Spanaway. Fir Lane Memorial Park Funeral Home of Spanaway is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crandell was born Oct. 7, 1931, to Charles and Fern (Hines) Crandell in Superior. He later moved to Hastings where he worked for Ted Smith Disposal. In 1966 he moved to Spanaway where he married Linda Broaten.

Survivors are his wife; two stepdaughters, Helen Mae Marsh and Mellissa Melgin, both of Spanaway; three sisters, Ruth Hastings of Sabetha, Kan., Lillian Cates and Lois Slade, both of Hastings; one brother, Ivan Crandell of Lincoln; and three grandsons.
