Wilbur A. Wilson

Nelson resident Wilbur Allen Wilson, 90, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, in Superior.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy and the Rev. Mark Imel officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery in Nelson. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. at Klawitter Price Funeral Home in Nelson.
Mr. Wilson was born Jan. 23, 1909, to Thomas and Ethe (Howell) Wilson near Nelson. He attended the Ox Bow country school. On Dec. 3, 1942, he married Evelyn Shaw in Nelson. His wife died Feb. 20, 1996. In September 1996, he moved to the Nelson Good Samaritan Center in Nelson.
He was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ.
Survivors are one son, Thomas of Nelson; one daughter, Lillian Wilson of Superior; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers; and four stepsisters.
Bernard O. Jameson

Upland resident Bernard Orville Jameson, 75, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. M. Manick Samuel officiating. Burial will be in the Upland Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 and 7-8 p.m. Monday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Jameson was born July 15, 1923, to Orville and Hazel (Hanson) Jameson on the family farm north of Campbell. He worked on the farm with his father and brother for many years. On Dec. 8, 1967, he married Pearl Shineman. In 1980, they moved to Campbell and later to Upland.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Charles Nielsen of Gibbon and Lloyd Nielsen of California; four daughters, Angelan Applegate of Lewisville, Texas, Alberta Treadway of Chico, Texas, Roxie Larson of Smith Center, Kan., and JaNiece Sullivan of Prosser; one brother, James of Franklin; three sisters, Leona Jean Heinrich of Blue Hill, Bonnie Schenk of Prosser and Betty Schriner of Guide Rock; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son; one sister; and one great-grandson.
A memorial fund has been established in his name for his great-grandson, who died June 1.
Frederick 'Fred' Maixner Jr.

Former Deweese resident Frederick "Fred" Maixner Jr., 89, of Integrated Health Services in Edgar died Friday, June 4, 1999, at the home.
Rosary is 10 a.m. and services are 10:30 a.m., both Monday at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Deweese with the Rev. Dennis Hunt officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery near Deweese. McLaughlin Funeral Home of Clay Center is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Maixner was born June 7, 1909, to Frederick and Mary (Cecava) Maixner near Deweese. He farmed near Deweese. He married Jacquen M. Smith. She died Aug. 29, 1997. Since 1998, he has been a resident at Integrated Health Services in Edgar.
Survivors are two sisters, Mary Hamersky of Lincoln and Stella Kucera of Hastings; and one brother, Albert of Deweese.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Esther M. Hawes

Hastings resident Esther M. (Goebel) Hawes, 71, of 1738 W. Second St. died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with Envoy Norma Crago officiating. Burial will be in Red Cloud Cemetery at Red Cloud. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hawes was born July 4, 1927, to Fredrick and Mary Della (Henderson) Goebel. She attended schools in Bloomington and Riverton and Hastings Senior High School. On May 12, 1944, she married Bill Hall. She worked for Dr. Foote, Redwood Motel, Ruby's Eastgate, Pancake House, Whirl'A Whip and the Naval Ammunition Depot. She was a custodian for Warner Construction.
On Jan. 24, 1971, she married George Hawes. He died Nov. 11, 1979.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Gold Star Mothers and DAV Auxiliary.
Survivors are two sons, Thomas Dean Hall of Denver and William Luegene Hall of Hastings; two daughters, Twila Joann Lyngstad of Briggsdale, Colo., and Nellie Marie Dilley of Hastings; one brother, Dick Goebel of Las Vegas; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, four sisters and five brothers.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Hastings resident Dennis Dale Skinner, 50, of 409 Ringland Road died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Mr. Skinner was born April 11, 1950, to Otha Dale and Doris L. (Beanblossom) Skinner in Davenport. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1969. In 1970 he moved to Hastings where he began working for Sidles Automotive. He then worked for Great Plains Chrysler in Hastings from 1974-78. On Sept. 11, 1976, he married Charla Colling in Hastings. From 1978-83 he worked for Paul Spady Motors in Hastings. He then returned to Sidles Automotive/Auto Value in Hastings where he was working as a salesman at the time of his death.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Stephen Ministry.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Kayla Skinner of Hastings; his mother of Hastings; and two sisters, Diane Blau of Davenport and Denise Snow of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Walter J. Peterson

Hebron resident Walter J. Peterson, 79, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Edgar.
Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Home chapel in Hebron with the Rev. John R. Walton officiating. Burial will be in Hubbell Cemetery in Republic County, Kan. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and two hours prior to services Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Peterson was born May 4, 1921, to Sophias and Jean (Cherry) Peterson in Narka, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married LulaBelle Whitley. She preceded him in death. He was a former employee of Bebba Construction and Rock Island Railroad. He also was a former employee of Day's Sanitation Co. and Green Thumb Program, both in Beatrice.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Survivors are two daughters, Alice Sherrill of Marysville, Kan., and Virginia Kleen of Alexandria; one sister, Dorothy Eisiamam of Paramount, Texas; one brother, Casper of Talur, Calif.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one sister; one brother; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Fund or American Heart Fund.
Alice M. Schlife

Hebron resident Alice Marie (Cox) Schlife, 77, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Lincoln.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hebron with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in the Chester City Cemetery. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home of Hebron is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Schlife was born Jan. 30, 1923, to Luke and Mildred (Lindholm) Cox in Daykin. She graduated from Hebron High School. She worked at Butternut Coffee in Omaha and later worked as a waitress. On Dec. 6, 1968, she married Casper "Cap" Schlife in Lincoln. They lived on the family farm near Chester. In 1998, her husband died.
She was a member of the Outlaw Car Club in Hebron.
Survivors are one son, Rodney Nelson of Hebron; one brother, Wayne of Lincoln; four sisters, Irene Ingles of Denver, Roberta McKay of Hebron, Beverly Stone of Mason City, Iowa, and Mildred Speth of Steele City; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial has been established.
Jack M. Geertz

Hebron resident Jack Marlin Geertz, 67, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church in Hebron with the Rev. John Walton officiating. Burial with military rites will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home of Hebron is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Geertz was born Jan. 3, 1933, to Carl and Martha (Schroeder) Geertz near Alexandria. He worked as a mechanic in the Hebron area for most of his life. He was employed by Ken-Boy Motors in Hebron. On Oct. 2, 1956, he married Bonnie Ray in Fairbury.
He was a member of the Hebron VFW and Fairbury Eagles Lodge and a former member of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Stan of Milford; one daughter, Martha Morton of Omaha; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
A memorial has been established.

Hastings resident Harold E. Armes of 622 S. Baltimore Ave., died today at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services are pending with Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.
Charles Hill
Monday, June 5, 2000
Former Hastings resident Charles Hill, 69, of Ogallala died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala with the Rev. David Dobbertien officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by the Ogallala Honor Guard. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today with family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala.
Mr. Hill was born June 22, 1930, to William and Mabel (Tockey) Hill in Lewellen. He graduated from Arthur High School in 1947. He worked as a truck driver and hauled salt out of Kansas until 1951. He then worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings. On Feb. 26, 1951, he married Sylvia Sydow in Hastings. From 1951-53 he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He returned to Hastings and attended Hastings College. In 1955 he moved to California where he sold NAPA auto parts. He and his family returned to Hastings in 1961 and managed several restaurants in the area. In 1967 they moved to Keystone where he worked for the Keystone-Arthur Telephone Co. He began public relations work for the Veterans of Foreign Wars based in Kansas City, Mo., in 1974. He and his wife moved to Ogallala in 1984 where he continued to work for the VFW. In 1990 he retired.
He was a member of the VFW and served as state commander. He also helped start a baseball program in Keystone. He earned the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star and the United Nations service medal.
Survivors are his wife; four sons, Edwin of Glenvil, Arthur of Casper, Wyo., Tony Eugene of Eldridge, Iowa, and Larry of Akron, Colo.; three sisters, Martha Gies, Lois Vath and Mabel Statler, all of Keystone; one brother, William Jr. of Keystone; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
