Norma S. (Henderson) Deepe

Tuesday, May 30, 2000

Hebron resident Norma S. (Henderson) Deepe, 86, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Blue Valley Lutheran Home chapel in Hebron with the Rev. John Walton officiating. Burial will be in Hebron City Cemetery. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Deepe was born Dec. 19, 1913, to George A. and Emma (Messing) Henderson in Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1932. On Oct. 9, 1936, she married Paul Henry Deepe in Mankato, Kan. She and her husband did hauling and trucking for several years. They farmed in the Shickley, Carleton and Belvidere areas. In 1971 they moved into Hebron. In 1983 her husband died.

She was a member of the Extension Club and the HB Club, both in Belvidere, the Thayer County Hospital Guild, and the resident council at Blue Valley Lutheran Home. She was a volunteer for Things and Stuff in Hebron.

Survivors are three sons, Max, Ronald and John, all of Hebron; two daughters, Linda Sterba of Hebron and Debra Kuhlmann of Chester; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roger, and one sister.

Harry "Bud" Webber

Tuesday, May 30, 2000

Superior resident Harry "Bud" Webber, 87, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Bob Kraus officiating. Burial will be in the Hardy Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Webber was born Feb. 23, 1913, to Clayton and Pearl (Duncan) Webber near Webber, Kan. He attended Mount Olive Rural School in Montana Township. On Aug. 21, 1940, he married Georgia Fuller in Belleville, Kan. He farmed in the Webber and Hardy areas for several years and later was employed by Ideal Cement in Superior.

He was a member of the Union Church in Hardy.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Keith of Topeka, Kan.; one daughter, Joyce Boman of Topeka; one brother, Fred of Superior; two sisters, Maxine Wurzbacher of Sabetha, Kan., and Fern Croaston of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Memorials may be given in care of the family, 747 E. Third, Superior, NE 68978.

Terrance L. 'Terry' Brehm

Hastings resident Terrance L. "Terry" Brehm, 52, of 2202 W. 12th St., died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brehm was born May 16, 1947, to Sam Jr. and Patricia (Brule) Brehm in Hastings. He attended St. Cecilia's High School in Hastings. In 1966 he graduated from Hastings Senior High School in Hastings. He worked for Ben Sherman Clothing in Hastings and the ordnance plant in Grand Island. He also worked for Modern Methods in Hastings. He also traveled for Burroughs Corp. On April 28, 1966, he married Pamela Neff. In 1985 he started his own company, Business Graphics, in Hastings.

He was a past member of the Elks Club and the Southern Hills Country Club where he served on the board of directors.

Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Susan Gales and Julie Chandler, both of Minneapolis, and Jill Marr of Kearney; one son, Jon of Papillion; his mother; two sisters, Donna Gavin of Clay Center and Pamela Schwabauer of Hastings; one brother, David of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Lisa Rodgers

Services for Lisa Rodgers of Atlanta are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak and Cutler Funeral Home in Omaha. Graveside services are 3 p.m. at Harvard Cemetery in Harvard. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Friday for family and starts 2 p.m. for friends at the funeral home. Visitation at the First United Methodist Church in Harvard is 2-3 p.m. Saturday.

Louie A. Pigeon

Rosary for Hastings resident Louie A. Pigeon, 89, of 1339 Pershing Road, who died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings is 10:45 a.m. and services are 11 a.m., both Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Beulah I. Strnad

Superior resident Beulah Irene (Roland) Strnad, 76, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Harold Backus officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Strnad was born July 19, 1922, to William and Stella (Kohl) Roland near Reubens, Kan. She attended rural schools. In 1942 she graduated from Superior High School in Superior. She then worked at a cleaners in Superior. On Nov. 17, 1945, she married Myron John "Mike" Strnad in Emporia, Kan. They moved to a farm in Mount Clare. In 1952 they moved to Superior where she worked for a cleaners. She then worked at the Union Coffee Shop in Superior and later as a clerk in a Superior variety store, where she retired. On Nov. 3, 1981, her husband died.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Superior.

Survivors are one daughter, Janet Simpkins of Superior; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Robert; three brothers; and two sisters.

Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Atlanta resident Lisa Anne (Johannes) Rodgers, 31, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak and Cutler Funeral Home of Omaha with the Rev. Marvin Coffey officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. at the Harvard Cemetery in Harvard. Visitation starts 2 p.m. Friday with the family present from 7-8 p.m.

Survivors are her husband; her mother and stepfather; her father; one brother; and her grandmother, Josephine Yost of Hastings.

Ann Stroup

Former Lawrence resident Ann (Kotinek) Stroup, 100, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Services were July 2 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Omaha. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lawrence. John A. Gentleman Mortuary of Omaha was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stroup was born June 18, 1899, to Anton and Mary (Pribil) Kotinek near Lawrence. She worked as a housekeeper for priests in Delavan, Wis., before moving back to Nebraska. She was a housekeeper for priests for 41 years in Decatur, Hooper, Scribner and Blessed Sacrament parish in Omaha. She married Everett Stroup. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters; and four brothers.

Cecelia Griess

Monday, July 5, 1999

Sutton resident Cecelia (Huber) Griess, 94, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Kohler Mortuary chapel in Sutton. Burial will be in the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton.

Mrs. Griess was born May 31, 1905, to Henry and Amalia "Molly" (Volz) Huber in Sutton. She attended District No. 8 rural school in Fillmore County. On Nov. 25, 1926, she married Ephriam E. Griess in Hamilton County. On Jan. 28, 1996, her husband died. She moved to Sutton Community Home three years ago.

She was a member of the Free German Reformed Salem Church.

Survivors are one daughter, Irene Heser of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Leo of Sutton; and one brother, Thomas.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the Sutton Community Home.

J. 'Ted' Butler

Monday, July 5, 1999

Hastings resident J. "Ted" Butler, 88, of 504 Lane G, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the GSV All Saints Chapel with the Rev. David Thienel officiating. Burial will be in the Alda Cemetery in Alda. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Butler was born Nov. 18, 1910, to Earl and Lilah May (McGinnis) Butler in Mutual Woodward, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army in the Asian Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. On Oct. 28, 1944, he married Alma Maude Thomas in Phillipsburg, Kan. In 1945 they moved to Ragan, where he farmed and raised livestock. In 1951 they moved to Webster County to farm northwest of Guide Rock. In November 1996 they moved to Good Samaritan Village. On April 14, 1999, his wife died.

He was a member of the Guide Rock VFW Post No. 10755.

Survivors are one daughter, Sharon Butler of Alda; one son, Robert J. of Casper, Wyo.; one foster daughter, Connie Tobler of Alda; one sister, Rozella Scott of Spokane, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Betty A. Benson

Sunday, July 4, 1999

Bertrand resident Betty Ann (Fritz) Benson, 64, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hope Lutheran Church in Smithfield with the Rev. Kevin L. Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Bertrand. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand.

Mrs. Benson, along with her husband, Charles Benson, distributed Mountain Man Candy in Hastings.
