Franklin resident James E. Eckhoff, 49, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Franklin with the Rev. Bruce Crabtree officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Macon. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin and 9:30 a.m. until services at the church Tuesday.
Mr. Eckhoff was born Sept. 15, 1949, to Herman and Alma (Shepherdson) Eckhoff in Minden. He attended school in Franklin. In 1967 he graduated from Franklin High School in Franklin. He was employed by the Nebraska Highway Department at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Franklin.
Survivors are his mother; and two sisters, Jean Long of Ord and Gayle Heidemann of Wausau, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his father; one sister; and two brothers.
Gary D. Lake

Hastings resident Gary D. Lake, 63, of 528 Madden Road, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.
Mr. Lake was born July 30, 1935, to Charles Clark and Alexine (Zender) Lake in Carroll, Iowa. In 1953 he graduated from Sac City High School. From 1953-1955 he served in the U.S. Army as a signal and radio corpsman. On Aug. 24, 1958, he married Ruth I. Blake. He received his bachelor's degree from Wayne State College in Wayne. He also received his master's degree and doctorate in administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He worked in education for 37 years in Bloomfield, Lincoln, Hastings and Estherville, Iowa. He was an administrator at Westside High School in Lincoln and at Hastings Public Schools in Hastings.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hastings, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Hastings Public Schools.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Julie Lattimer of Lincoln and Jane Waiter of Yankton, S.D.; one son, Jeff of Lincoln; two brothers, Dick of Iowa City, Iowa, and Tom of Wall Lake, Iowa; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, Children's Emergency Protective Shelter or Crossroads Center of Hastings.

Kenesaw resident Mildred (Roberts) Graham, 93, of Kenesaw Haven Home died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at the home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery in Juniata. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Graham was born Dec. 15, 1905, to Orville and Alice (Daily) Roberts in Adams County. She graduated from Kenesaw High School in Kenesaw and attended Kearney State Teacher's College in Kearney for one year. She then taught at a country school in rural Adams County for a year. On March 5, 1925, she married Clifford K. Graham. Her husband died in 1962.
She attended the Methodist Church in Kenesaw and was a past member of Adams County Extension Club and Adams County Women's Choir.
Survivors are four daughters, Dolores Konen, Alyce Hansen and Shirley Gronewold, all of Hastings, and Naomi Hesselgesser of Tacoma, Wash.; five sons, Bernard of Lakewood, Colo., Gerald of Aurora, Colo., C. Keith of Juniata, and Larry and Jim, both of Prosser; 37 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Brommer; and one son, William.

Charlotte Pohlmeier

Lawrence resident Charlotte M. (Buescher) Pohlmeier, 92, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence with the Rev. Dennis Hunt officiating. Burial is in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lawrence. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pohlmeier was born July 4, 1907, to Joseph and Magdalene (Ostdiek) Buescher in Nuckolls County south of Lawrence. On May 1, 1934, she married Ernest H. Pohlmeier at St. Stephen's Catholic Church south of Lawrence. She and her husband owned and operated Pohlmeier Turkey Farm in Lawrence. In 1981 she moved into Lawrence from the farm. Her husband died June 7, 1992.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence and its altar society.
Survivors are one son, Don of Lawrence; one daughter, Marya Pohlmeier of St. Louis; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers; and three sisters.
Ronald G. Stewart

Hastings resident Ronald G. Stewart, 46, of 1105 N. Kansas Ave., died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Warthen T. Israel officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Stewart was born Sept. 8, 1952, to Lynn C. and Doris (Blaylock) Stewart in Phillipsburg, Kan. In 1953 he moved with his family to Hastings. In 1971 he graduated from Hastings Senior High School in Hastings. He attended Northern Colorado College in Greeley for two years. On Dec. 12, 1982, he married Linda K. Gotheridge at his parents' home in Hastings. He was self-employed and worked with his father at Stewart & Sons Oil and Gas Co. in Hastings as an oil and gas lease broker.
He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and the National Association of Petroleum Landman. He also played, coached and umpired for American Legion Baseball.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Kate Stewart of Hastings; one son, Ross of Hastings; his parents of Hastings; his grandmother, Kathryn Blaylock of Smith Center, Kan.; and one brother, Stephen of Littleton, Colo.
Memorials may be given to the Ronald Stewart Memorial Fund for Children's Education.
Velma E. Schutz

Hebron resident Velma E. (Bowman) Schutz, 91, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. today at the Hebron Memorial Funeral Home of Hebron. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron with the Rev. Paul Sheehy officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Hebron.
Mrs. Schutz was born Nov. 17, 1907, to Frank and Bertha (Geertz) Bowman in Bruning. She attended school in Bruning. In 1925 she graduated from Bruning High School in Bruning. On April 17, 1928, she married Thomas H. "Doc" Schutz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron. She was a resident of Blue Valley Lutheran Home.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society and a charter member of the Neighborhood Club.
Survivors are one daughter, Lila Day of Hebron; one son, James "Jim" of Ralston; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Gerald P. Willy

Hastings resident Gerald P. Willy, 64, of 408 E. 12th St. died Friday, July 30, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion in Hastings.
Rosary will be 10:45 a.m. and services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. James Meysenburg officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Willy was born Dec. 28, 1934, to Stephen and Gladys (Sieckman) Willy in Hastings. In 1951 he married Joan Nispel in Hastings. He graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1952. He started working for his father's business Steve Willy's Body Shop. He also worked as a sales representative for an insurance company for several years and sold kitchen cabinets. He was then a salesman for Egan Supply Co. in Omaha. His wife later died.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and the Elks Club in Hastings.
Survivors are two sons, Steve of Atlanta and Mark of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters, Debra Shelly of Denver and Michelle Newell of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother of Hastings; two brothers, Jan and James, both of Hastings; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Mary Lanning Hospice or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

North Platte resident Ella Mae Favinger, 74, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at her home.
Wake services are 9:45 a.m. and services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation is from noon to 9 p.m. today and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, including Pat Davis of Hastings; two sisters; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Guide Rock resident Hildred M. (Bangert) Schutte, 84, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at the Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont with the Rev. Bill Caughy officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery near Lawrence. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Schutte was born Oct. 25, 1914, to Otto and Marie (Lix) Bangert in Webster County. She attended Zion Lutheran School in Webster County. On Aug. 14, 1935, she married Alfred F. Schutte. They lived on a farm and raised livestock near Guide Rock. On May 11, 1980, her husband died.
She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Altar Guild. She also served on the boards for the Webster County Food Pantry and South Central Mental Health. She was a charter member of Nebraska Pollettes.
Survivors are four daughters, Marjorie Martin and Merilee Wood, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janice Shambaugh of Scottsbluff and Kay Schutte of Hastings; three sons, Allen and Ronald, both of Guide Rock and Marvin of Olathe, Kan.; three sisters, Elda Schutte of Hawthorne, Calif., Artis Bohr of Phoenix and Marlyn Graudin of Clayton, Mo.; one brother, Chris of Torrance, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lincoln resident Sharlot (King) Whitcomb died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Lincoln.
The remains were cremated. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the Temple Baptist Church in Lincoln with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Private family burial will be in Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair, Iowa. Aspen Aftercare Cremation and Burial Services of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are one son, Franklin of Geneva; one daughter, Shirley Perry of Hastings; her mother; two sisters; one brother; and five grandchildren.

Rose M. Kroh

Former Hastings resident Rose Marie (Gooch) Fletchall Kroh, 96, of Omaha, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in Papillion.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sabetha Cemetery in Sabetha, Kan. A memorial service will be at a later date in Hastings. Boyd E. Braman Mortuary of Omaha is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kroh was born March 9, 1903, to George and Dora Gooch in Sheridan County, Kan. She moved with her family to Hastings in 1904. She attended schools in Hastings, Crawford and Lincoln. In 1924, she married C. Warner Fletchall. In 1944 he died in Falls City. She then returned to Hastings in 1945 and was employed at Brock's Department store where she was in charge of the ladies ready-to-wear alteration room. She also worked as a practical nurse at the Hastings Regional Center from 1947-66. She retired in 1966 as a supervisor and psychiatric technician in the nursing service. In 1954, she married Cecil A. Kroh. In 1976 her husband died. She moved to Omaha six months ago.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Acacia Chapter No. 39, the Royal Neighbors of America and the YWCA, all in Hastings.
Survivors are one stepson, Richard Kroh of Kimberling City, Mo.; six stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son; one daughter; four sisters; and one brother.
Memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church.
