Maxine M. Renschler

Hastings resident Maxine M. Renschler, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at her home.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Juniata United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Burial will be in the Juniata Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Renschler was born Aug. 27, 1914, to Andrew Burr and Ina (Hayes) Wymore near Byron. She graduated from Juniata High School in 1934. On July 28, 1934, she married M.E. "Bud" Renschler in Harlan, Iowa. From 1960-67 she managed the Showboat Motel in Juniata. In 1973 she and her husband retired and moved to Johnson Lake near Elwood. On Jan. 7, 1985, her husband died. She moved to Hastings in 1994.
Survivors are three daughters, Roberta Sentelle, Penny Bures and Doris Moss, all of Hastings; two sons, Pat of Juniata and Mike of Loveland, Colo.; one brother, Andy Wymore of Overland Park, Kan.; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters; one brother; one sister; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.
Frank E. Schroeder

Hastings resident the Rev. Frank Ernest Schroeder, 88, of 401 Circle H died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Earl Higgins and the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Clay Center Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. The family will be present 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mr. Schroeder was born Oct. 24, 1911, to Ernest and Amelia (Hoesch) Schroeder in Edgar. He graduated from Clay Center High School and Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. He earned his master's degree from the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Ill. On Oct. 2, 1937, he married Naomi Lozier in Decatur, Ind. He served in numerous churches in the Nebraska United Methodist Conference including Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings from 1946-53. He held various offices in the Nebraska Conference of United Methodist Church. He returned to Hastings in 1977.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Sharon Gillespie of Fresno, Calif.; one son, Robert of Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Lily Oehlerking of Louisville; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David and Donald; one brother; and five sisters.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.
Ethel L. Taylor

Former Hastings resident Ethel L. Taylor, 89, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Cheyenne.
Graveside services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Parkview Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Taylor was born Feb. 20, 1910, to Eli Lenard and Minnie Mac (Bennett) Taylor in Hastings. She grew up and attended school in Hastings. She lived in Burbank, Calif., and worked for Lockheed Corp. for 34 years. She then retired to Cheyenne in 1974.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Larry M. Bauer

Minden resident Larry M. Bauer, 62, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at his home.
Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Minden with the Rev. Kathy Bryant officiating. There will be no visitation. Layton Funeral Home of Minden is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bauer was born April 3, 1937, to Clarence and Esther (Christensen) Bauer in Minden. He graduated from Minden High School and Hastings College. He attended the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha for four years. He taught school in Red Cloud, Bennington and Omaha. He then returned to Minden where he owned and operated Criterion Photo.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Gigi Askins of College Station, Texas; one sister, Judith Nelson of Grand Island; and two grandchildren.
Marvin D. Thayer

Nelson resident Marvin D. Thayer, 63, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson Community United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Burial will be in the Nelson Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson.
Mr. Thayer was born April 25, 1936, to Henry and Helen (Hanson) Thayer near Newman Grove. He graduated from Ruskin High School in 1956. On Sept. 4, 1966, he married Elaine Thornberry. He worked as a truck driver for Nelson-Nora Co-op for several years.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Kimma Thayer of Hastings and Lisa Wilkerson of Ayr; three brothers, Mervin of Ruskin, Ben of Dannebrog and Jim of Lexington; one sister, Janice Bohling of Byron; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent in care of the family.
Marjorie E. Langhorst

Former Geneva resident Marjorie Elaine (Hogue) Langhorst, 72, of Arkansas City, Kan., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Arkansas City.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva with the Rev. Kim Dunker officiating. Burial will be in the Geneva Public Cemetery. Visitation began at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Langhorst was born Aug. 14, 1927, to Henry and Edith (Madison) Hogue in Geneva.
Survivors are one son, Larry of Arkansas City; two daughters, Joanie Dunker of Sutton and Linda Heape of Arkansas City; three sisters, Vivian Franck and Phyllis Kamler, both of Geneva, and Myrna Ritchey of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Nellie A. Moorehead

Former Alexandria resident Nellie A. (Demaray) Moorehead, 94, of Brighton, Colo., died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in Brighton.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church in Alexandria with the Rev. William Thornton officiating. Burial will be in the Alexandria Public Cemetery. Visitation is two hours prior to services Friday at the church. Price Funeral Home of Hebron is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Moorehead was born Nov. 7, 1904, to Seth H. and Kate F. (Goodman) Demaray in Alexandria. She had lived in Boise Valley, Idaho, and was a retired grade school teacher. She married Ray C. Moorehead. He preceded her in death March 13, 1969.
She was a member of the Eastern Star OPHEL No. 415 in Belleville, Kan., and a charter member of the Denver Historical Society.
Survivors are two daughters, Madlyn Blitch of Brighton and Arlene Baker of Sherwood, Ore.; one sister, Jennie Thille of Tigard, Ore.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter and one son.

John A. Herman

Davenport resident John A. Herman, 91, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Edgar.
Services were to be 2 p.m. today at Christ's Lutheran Church in Davenport with the Rev. Delmar Klover officiating. Burial was to be in the Davenport City Cemetery. Urbauer-Price Funeral Home of Davenport was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Herman was born April 12, 1908, to John H. and Anna (Gerdes) Herman in Marshall County, Kan. He attended Blue Valley School. On Sept. 2, 1931, he married Mildred Murphy of Nelson. She preceded him in death. He had farmed near Oak and had retired.
He was a member of Christ's Lutheran Church and the Men of the Church. He also was a member of the Davenport Lion's Club.
Survivors are one son, Larry of Oak; two sisters, Etta Lutz and Minnie Schleif, both of Twin Falls, Idaho; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one daughter and two sisters.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.
Daryl E. Clyde

Superior resident Daryl Ellis Clyde, 71, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in Superior.
Services were to be 2 p.m. today at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Harold Backus officiating. Burial was to be at Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.
Mr. Clyde was born Oct. 18, 1928, to William Ellis and Eda (Seeba) Clyde in rural Superior. He attended school near Guide Rock and in North Platte. He graduated in 1946 from Guide Rock High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-54 where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. On Jan. 4, 1956, he married Carol Jean Darling in Fairbury.
He was a member of the Superior American Legion Post No. 103 and managed it for more than 25 years.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Frank and Steve, both of Superior; one brother, Dale of San Antonio; one sister, Diane Way of Superior; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael, and one brother.

Leland L. Hawley

Edgar resident Leland Lockwood Hawley, 78, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services were to be 1:30 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Edgar with the Revs. Rick Cepris and John Hodges officiating. Burial with military honors was to be in the Edgar Cemetery.
Mr. Hawley was born July 8, 1921, to Charles R. and Inez (Lockwood) Hawley in Brock. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-45 in Panama in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. On Nov. 21, 1939, he married Floydean Higgins in Hiawatha, Kan. He was a farmer and cattle feeder in Clay County.
He was a member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar and the Warren Fletcher American Legion Post No. 248. He also was a member of the Clay County Feeders Association. He was feeder of the year in 1980. He also was secretary of the rural fire board.
Survivors are his wife; two sisters, Betty Bohling of Auburn and Connie Clark of Omaha; one brother, Dwight of Auburn; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Claudia.
Estella E. Reeve

Superior resident Estella E. (Karnatz) Reeve, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Danny Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.
Mrs. Reeve was born March 7, 1923, to Arthur and Amelia (Indorf) Karnatz near Burr Oak, Kan. She graduated from Superior High School in 1940. On April 30, 1943, she married Oren Reeve in Mankato, Kan. She worked on the National Youth Administration and for Armour Creamery in Superior. She also cleaned, painted and wallpapered homes and offices and assisted her husband with the care of Evergreen Cemetery. She retired in 1980. On Dec. 6, 1994, her husband died.
Survivors are two sons, Richard and Robert, both of Hastings; two sisters, Eleanor Duncan of Superior and Elaine Towne of Rapid City, S.D.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Rodney, and one brother.
Lowell D. Sellman

Former Hastings resident Lowell D. Sellman, 82, of Tucson, Ariz., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Tucson Medical Center in Arizona.
Rosary is 9:30 a.m. and services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. David Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Sellman was born May 5, 1917, to Elmer and Bernice (Alvin) Sellman in Correctionville, Iowa. He married Dorothy M. Gauthier. He worked for Sundstrand Aviation in Denver for 27 years and retired in 1982. His wife died Jan. 8, 1993. He then married Grace Soper. He moved from Hastings to Tucson earlier this year.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Survivors are his wife; and one stepdaughter, Linda Campbell of Pennsylvania.
Memorials may be given to the Food Pantry.
