Albion resident Herman Schmadeke, 88, of Albion died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.
Services were Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Joanne Stahl of Hastings; one son; three stepchildren; two sisters; two brothers; seven grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Fern E. Beisheim

Minden resident Fern E. (Jacobsen) Beisheim, 87, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Bethany Home in Minden.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Minden with the Rev. Kathy Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Beisheim was born May 11, 1911, to Chris and Margaret (Nelsen) Jacobsen in Kearney County. She graduated from Minden High School. On May 11, 1931, she marred John Beisheim. They farmed northwest of Minden until 1949, when they moved to a farm north of Axtell. Her husband died in 1965. She moved to Minden in 1982.
She was a member of First Christian Church and its Christian ladies' group.
Survivors are two sons, Merle of Fort Calhoun and Shane of Axtell; three sisters, Geneva Warp, Myrtha Talbert and Dorothy McLellan, all of Minden; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by an infant son, one brother and two sisters.
Memorial may be given to First Christian Church.
Rueben Kaiser

Former Hastings resident Rueben Kaiser, 84, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery at Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kaiser was born Oct. 6, 1914, to Henry and Emma (Schleiger) Kaiser at Hastings. He lived most of his life in Hastings. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was laundry manager at Hastings Regional Center. He also worked at Queen City Laundry.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Survivors are one daughter, Beverly Bruning of Hastings; two sons, Mike of Hastings and Danny Joe of Wausa; one sister, Pauline McNanney of Salem, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
A memorial will be established.
Homer B. Wehrman Sr.

Nelson resident Homer B. Wehrman Sr. died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Good Samaritan Center in Nelson.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nelson Community United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery at Nelson. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson.
Mr. Wehrman was born Aug. 13, 1903, to James B. and Maude (Ballard) Wehrman on a farm near Nelson. He graduated from Nelson High School in 1920. On May 27, 1922, he married Esther Long in Clay Center. They farmed and raised cattle. He served on the Nelson City Council. His wife died Oct. 12, 1984.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, now Nelson Community United Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer and trustee; Masonic Lodge in Nelson and Tehama Shrine Patrol.
Survivors are one son, H.B. Jr. of Nelson; two daughters, Elizabeth Wehrman of Colchester, Ill., and Kathleen Mieth of Hebron; one brother, Clifton E. Sr. of Nelson; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death four brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hastings College or United Church of Christ.
L. Jean Kohl

Hastings resident L. Jean Kohl, 77, of 205 E. 42nd St., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery in Ayr. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kohl was born April 9, 1922, to LaMonie C. and Juanita (Marymee) Kohl in Hastings. He grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings Senior High School in 1940. From 1942-45 he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Dec. 14, 1942, he married Mildred Busboom in Corvallis, Ore. From 1949-65 he owned and operated Jean Kohl's Body Shop, and from 1966-1981 he owned and operated Kohl Enterprises, both of Hastings.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion, UCT, Mid-West Lodge No. 317 A.F. & A.M., York Rite, Scottish Rite and the Tehama Shrine Temple, all of Hastings.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Candy Hodge and Julie Williams, both of Emporia, Kan.; one son, Dusty of Hastings; five brothers, Guy of Ogallala, Jack of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ray of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Richard of Las Vegas, and Neal of Lexington; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
Edward F. Nikodym

Red Cloud resident Edward F. Nikodym, 91, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Al Trucano officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Nikodym was born June 17, 1907, to Frank and Frances (Tepley) Nikodym in Geddes, S.D. He grew up in the Geddes area where he attended school. On Jan. 30, 1930, he married Adeline Rezac. They moved to Meadow Grove where he was employed by the Chicago Lumber Co. In 1940 they moved to Washington state where he worked in the shipyards during World War II. In 1945 they moved to Newman Grove where he farmed. In 1964 they moved to Clarkson where they operated the Purple Palace Drive-In. In 1966 they moved to Norfolk where he was employed by Gerhold Concrete Co. His wife died Aug. 1, 1974. He later married Helen Kouba in Pierce. He returned to Red Cloud in 1983 after her death.
He was a member of the Red Cloud Congregational Church.
Survivors are one daughter, JoAnn Clifton of Scottsbluff; two sons, Jim of Red Cloud and Dewayne of Scottsbluff; one sister, Ella Odenbach of Gregory, S.D.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Robert J., one sister and one brother.
Courtney W. 'Corky' Larson

Former Hastings resident Courtney William "Corky" Larson, 81, of Grand Island, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings with the Rev. Howard B. Franzen officiating. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Brand-Wilson Mortuary in Hastings.
Mr. Larson was born June 15, 1917, to Robert W. and Olga (Peterson) Larson in Jamestown, N.Y. He grew up in Jamestown. From 1934-38 he served in the U.S. Navy. In 1940 he married Ruth Evelyn "Evy" Sanders. He worked numerous jobs until 1980 when he retired from the Hastings Regional Center. He lived in Hastings from 1945-1997. He then moved to Grand Island and lived there until his death.
He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Pat Pederson of Hastings and Cyndie Larson of Grand Island; one son, Terry of Hastings; one brother, Kenneth of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert W. and Billie Ray; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Myrle E. Fleming

Norman resident Myrle E. (Felzien) Fleming, 92, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Kearney County Health Services in Minden.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. David Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Norman Cemetery at Norman. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Fleming was born Jan. 22, 1907, to Edward C. and Clara (Moon) Felzien in Heartwell. She grew up in the Heartwell area, graduating from Heartwell High School and Kearney Normal School. On Aug. 24, 1932, she married Clifton Fleming. They lived in Norman. She taught in various Kearney County country schools and in Holstein and Norman. Her husband died in 1972.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hastings. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Kearney County Historical Society and Women's Club. She served as the Methodist Sunday school superintendent in Norman for many years. She was active in community affairs in Minden and Norman. She was Norman's historian and served as chairwoman for the town centennial celebration.
Survivors are one daughter, Patricia Doll of Gregory, S.D.; one sister, Gladys Golay of Glendale, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Dorothy J. Burch

Hastings resident Dorothy J. (Simoneau) Burch, 66, of 402 E. Sixth St., died Monday, May 24, 1999, at her home.
Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with the Rev. James J. Meysenburg officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Mrs. Burch was born June 21, 1932, to Emile and Delia (Saindon) Simoneau in Seguin, Kan. She graduated from Damar High School in Damar, Kan. She retired from Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co. She lived in Hastings for 40 years.
She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
Survivors are one daughter, Linda Norris of Hastings; two sons, Richard of Lincoln and Robert of Hastings; four sisters, Margaret Bruckner of Humphrey, Alma Fleming of Concordia, Kan., Adella Brouillette of North Platte and Rose Hand of Atwood, Kan.; three brothers, Ulysses of Wichita, Kan., Eugene of Beloit, Kan., and William of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the St. Cecilia's Catholic Church Renovation Fund in Hastings.
