Lajos F. "Louie" Molnar, 62, of 3205 Paradise Drive, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Rosary was Friday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel and services were Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial was in Bellwood Catholic Cemetery in rural Bellwood.
Survivors are his wife, Janice; two sons, David of Ankeny, Iowa., and Steve of Lincoln; one daughter, Vicki Canton of Blue Springs, Mo.; one sister, Janosne Czimer of Erd, Hungary; and three grandchildren.

Former Burr Oak, Kan., resident, Rosa Ellen (Cockroft) Tegley, 90, of Lincoln, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at Jewell County Hospital Long Term Care in Mankato, Kan.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Melby Mortuary in Mankato with the Rev. Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today.
Mrs. Tegley was born Nov. 28, 1908, to Willie and Mamie (Olena) Cockroft in Burr Oak. On May 9, 1926, she married Milo Tegley. She lived in Burr Oak and then Hastings for six years before moving to Lincoln where she worked in child evangelism and ministeries. Her husband died in 1981.
She was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Lincoln.
Survivors are one son, Thomas of Lincoln; one daughter, Rose B. Deck of Rockville, Ind.; one brother, Arthur Cockroft of Mankato; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister.

Deshler resident Clara I. (Bonin) Holtzen, 99, died Friday, May 14, 1999, in Hebron.
Services were to be 2 p.m. today at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. Duane Fahr officiating. Burial was to be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Deshler. Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Holtzen was born Dec. 13, 1899, to August and Katie Bonin in Kiowa. She attended Bethlehem Lutheran School in Kiowa.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Deshler.
Survivors are two sons, Lee of Seward and Merlin of Walton; two daughters, Arleen Giger of Lincoln and Liela Jean Krupicka of Davenport; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Melvin and Harvey; two brothers; and three sisters.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
JoAnn Asmus

Glenvil resident JoAnn (Engel) Asmus, 55, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tim Wiggins officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.
Mrs. Asmus was born Feb. 3, 1944, to Waldorf C. and Clara A. (Rundall) Engel in Clay Center. She attended Harvard High School in Harvard. On Jan. 22, 1961, she married Robert R. Asmus. They farmed in Adams County until retiring in 1998. She was co-owner of the Calico Cottage and owner of Central Bookkeeping, both in Hastings.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Glenvil, the Sugar 'n' Spice Extension Club for more than 30 years, and the Hastings Quilter's Guild.
Survivors are her husband; three daughters, Diane Murphy of Tecumseh, Debra Herndon of Lincoln and Sherry Asmus of Ralston; one son, Mark of Columbus; one brother, Don Engel of Pomona, Kan.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.
Alvin F. Syring

Hastings resident Alvin F. Syring, 90, of Perkins Pavilion, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Brett Hanes officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery at Ayr. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Syring was born Nov. 27, 1908, to Fredrick and Maggi (Stromer) Syring in Hastings. In the 1920s, he was an ice cutter at Crystal Lake near Ayr. He later worked at McGrath's Hardware and was a guard at the Naval Ammunition Depot. On June 3, 1931, he married Lena Saathoff. She died in 1996.
He was a Jehovah's Witness.
Survivors are one stepdaughter, Evelyn Ely of Oregon; and one sister, Laura Hefnider of Springdale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be given to Blue Valley Cemetery.

Hastings resident Obed E. Kullberg, 90, of 1203 E. Park St. Lot No. 42, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Private family graveside services and burial are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield with the Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. A memorial service will be at a later date. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kullberg was born Oct. 25, 1908, in Harcourt, Iowa. He grew up in Harcourt and later was a barber in Clinton, Iowa, and Des Moines, Iowa. On June 4, 1938, he married Opal Nixon. He moved to Hastings in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army for a short time in 1943. He was a salesman for Beltone Hearing Aid and retired in the early 1970s.
Survivors are his wife of Hastings; two sons, James of Overland Park, Kan., and Richard of Hastings; one sister, Ruth Bygel of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one brother, Harold of Mankato, Minn.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Ann; and a brother, Eastman.
Memorials may be given to the family's choice.
Freida O. Tjarks-Van Wirt

Former Glenvil resident Freida O. (Eihusen) Tjarks-Van Wirt, 83, of San Jose Calif., died Thursday, April 22, 1999, in San Jose.
Services were April 26 at the Oak Hill Funeral Home's Drawing Room Chapel with the Rev. Max Hively officiating. Burial was in Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, Calif.
Mrs. Van Wirt was born Dec. 22, 1915, to John and Gertrude Eihusen at Glenvil.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose in San Jose and Tracy, Calif.
Survivors are one daughter, Evelyn Vargas; one sister, Wilhemenia Hock; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Tjarks.
Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.

Hastings resident Glenn Groshans Sr., 73, of 735 N. Minnesota Ave., died Thursday May 13, 1999, at his home.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church with the Rev. James Meysenburg officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon until rosary Sunday at the funeral home. The family will greet people prior to the rosary.
Mr. Groshans was born Oct. 31, 1925, to Harry and Mary (Waldmeier) Groshans on a farm near Davenport. He later moved with his family to the Deshler area. He graduated from eighth grade at the District No. 50 rural school. In 1943 he graduated from Deshler High School. He worked at the lumber yard and the Deshler Hotel. On May 13, 1944, he married Florence Genzmer at Smith Center, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 as a signalman on a merchant ship. After his discharge, he started working for Rural Gas. In 1952 he went to work for Farm Service, which later was sold to Consumers Service Co. He was assistant manager. He semi-retired in 1990.
He was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, VFW and American Legion.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Jackie Carl of Hastings, Mary Smith of Grand Island and Toni Woodard of Lincoln; five sons, Glenn Jr. of Hastings and Dennis, Daniel, Steve and Fred, all of Lincoln; one sister, Florence Richardson of Augusta, Ga.; one brother, Donald Grosshans of Deshler; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, Michael.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Rosary is 5 p.m. today at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel. Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. David F. Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Catholic Cemetery near Bellwood. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Mr. Molnar was born July 20, 1936, to Lajos and Erzsebet (Wunsch) Molnar in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. In November 1956, he came to New Jersey through a sponsorship program. His sponsor family was William and Adele Kenny and Sister Adele Kenny, S.F.O. From 1960-62 he served in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 7, 1963, he married Janice Mick in Bellwood. In 1964 he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor of science degree in agronomy. He then started the research station for Pioneer Seed in Huron, S.D. He moved to Hastings 20 years ago and became a self-employed corn research specialist. He helped to organize soccer in Hastings and was a soccer coach for Hastings Senior High School for several years.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Men's Club, Seed Trade Association, Hastings Men's Soccer Club, Central Community College Ag Board and the UNL Alumni Association.
Survivors are his wife of Hastings; two sons, David of Ankeny, Iowa, and Steve of Lincoln; one daughter, Vicki Canton of Blue Springs, Mo.; one sister, Janosne Czimer of Erd, Hungary; and three grandchildren.

Robert J. Gartner

Former Tribland resident Robert J. Gartner, 70, of Grand Island died Monday, May 10, 1999, at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. Herbert Schutte officiating. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home in Grand Island. The family will be present from 7-9 p.m.
Mr. Gartner was born Dec. 7, 1928, to John and Clara (Kimle) Gartner in Heartwell. He attended school in Juniata. On July 23, 1949, he married Roberta L. Evans in Cheyenne, Wyo. They lived in Hastings and Holdrege before moving to Grand Island in 1954. In 1957 they began the Grand Island Business College. In 1973 they sold the business college. He also owned and operated a trucking and dispatching business over the years.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Eagles No. 378, the Elks, the Lieder Kranz, and the Saddle Club.
Survivors are one daughter, Peggy Catchpool of Kearney; one son, Stephen of Chicago; one brother, Maurice of Hastings; one sister, Ruth Uden of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be given to the Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
