Viola S. Fisher

Tuesday, March 21, 2000

Hastings resident Viola S. (Rogge) Fisher, 87, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Perkins.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Perkins Peace Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mrs. Fisher was born Jan. 11, 1913, to Henry D. and Lulu (Megrew) Rogge in Lincoln. She graduated from Trumbull High School in 1930. On March 18, 1944, she married George M. Gibble. She was a secretary for more than 25 years and worked for various businesses, including the Nebraska State Employment Services, Agricultural Research Service and the Aurora Community Center. Her husband died in 1974. She married Quinton Fisher. He died in June 1979.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and American Association of Retired Persons, where she served as secretary.

Survivors are one daughter, Linda Myers of Hastings; one son, George M. Jr. of Auburn, Ga.; two sisters, Doris Talbert of Hastings and Nina Graham of Centralia, Wash.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Loyal K. Hudson

Tuesday, March 21, 2000

Smith Center, Kan., resident Loyal K. Hudson, 74, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Dale McCain officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Athol, Kan. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hudson was born Sept. 1, 1925, to Earl J. and Grace Mae (Rust) Hudson near Athol. He attended rural school in Smith County, Kan., and graduated from Athol High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. military during World War II. On Feb. 9, 1950, he married Evelyn Johnson in Smith Center. He was a retired farmer and moved to Smith Center in 1995.

He served on the Liberty Board of Education and on the German Township Board for several years.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Joyce Lammers of Hays, Kan., and Bonnie Slavik of Kensington, Kan.; three sons, Kenneth of Franklin and Tom and Kent, both of Kensington; one brother, Ralph of Tieton, Wash.; five sisters, Elma Konvalin of Kittitas, Wash., Mary Calhoun, Carol Johnson and Sue Forhdal, all of Tieton, and Phyllis Arnold of Eagle; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Robert L. Porter

Sunday, March 5, 2000

Former Hastings resident Robert L. Porter, 64, of Portland, Ore., died Sunday, March 5, 2000, in Portland.

Services were March 10 at Young's Funeral Home chapel in Tigard, Ore. The remains were cremated. American Burial and Cremation Service in Tigard was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Porter was born June 26, 1935, to William Wilson and Beulah (Best) Porter in Hastings. On Feb. 6, 1954, he married Mary Jo Harder in Biloxi, Miss. He was a 1960 graduate of the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He worked for 10 years at North American Aviation in California. In 1969 he moved to Portland where he was a general engineer for Bonneville Power Administration. He retired in 1995.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Robert D. of Tigard and David M. of Newberg, Ore.; two daughters, Nancy Porter of Depoe Bay, Ore., and Jeannie Cox of Pompano Beach, Fla.; his mother of Bothell, Wash.; two brothers, Ken of Arlington, Wash., and Bill of Garden Grove, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Life Flight or charity of choice.

Maxine M. Rutt

Hastings resident Maxine M. Rutt, 77, of 515 Lane C died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the Haven Home in Kenesaw.

Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

Marilyn J. Macklin

Friday, Dec. 17, 1999

Minden resident Marilyn Joan (Anderson) Macklin, 62, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Bill Hunter and the Rev. Kim Stover officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 7-8 p.m. today at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mrs. Macklin was born Sept. 10, 1937, to John and Hattie (Damgaard) Anderson near Macon. She attended School District No. 48 near Minden and elementary school in Wilcox. In 1955 she graduated from Minden High School. On Oct. 16, 1960, she married Homer D. Macklin. She worked as a secretary at the United Methodist Church in Minden and was secretary for Minden High School for 21 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors are one son, Shane of Omaha; three brothers, Arthur and Roger, both of Minden, and Verlin of Orlando, Fla.; and five sisters, Evelyn Youngson of Kearney, Helen Woollen of Wilcox, Luetta Bacon of Hildreth, Charlotte Snyder of Tallahassee, Fla., and Patricia Erickson of Warrensberg, Mo.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

George J. Petr

Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999

Rosary for former Hastings resident George J. Petr, of Wichita, Kan., who died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in Wichita is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.

Delores Fitzke

Hastings resident Delores Fitzke of 307 Greenhouse Court died at her home.

Gwen E. Gaymon

Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999

Hastings resident Gwen E. (Strickler) Gaymon, 82, of 900 E. B St., No. 206, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Earl Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull. There is no visitation.

Mrs. Gaymon was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Loup City. She was adopted by Frank and Lydia (Guffin) Strickler. In 1935 she graduated from Trumbull High School and then attended Kearney State Teacher's College for one year. On June 7, 1941, she married Ray E. Gaymon in Buffalo, N.Y. She taught school. They moved from a farm near Trumbull to Hastings in 1962. She was a receptionist for Drs. Murray and Damico in Hastings.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Hastings. She was a past member of the YWCA, Daughters of the Nile and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Connie Halloran of Hastings and Nancy Lewis of Fulton, Mo.; one brother, Robert Stickney of Kearney; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosalie; one brother; and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Mary Lanning Hospice or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Althea L. Hayes

Friday, Dec. 17, 1999

Red Cloud resident Althea L. (Henry) Hayes, 72, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Webster County Hospital in Red Cloud.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Red Cloud Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Lehr officiating. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hayes was born March 15, 1927, to Lee Roy and Pearl L. (Douglas) Henry in Guide Rock. She graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1945. She worked at Jill's Care in Guide Rock. On Nov. 1, 1946, she married Robert J. Hayes in Mankato, Kan. They lived in Red Cloud until 1947 when they moved to Hastings. In 1958 they moved to Columbus where she worked for Becton-Dickinson and later Dale's Electronics. They returned to Red Cloud in 1993.

Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Connie Jo Gay of Columbus; one son, Robert Jr. of San Manuel, Ariz.; two sisters, Leila L. Rose of Papillion and Loretta M. Wulf of Guide Rock; one brother, Ronald of Gering; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Ruth Rap

Friday, Dec. 17, 1999

Former Hastings resident Ruth (Bontrager) Eigsti Rap, 97, of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, in Lincoln.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Lincoln. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Rap was born Sept. 18, 1902, to John and Susana (Yoder) Bontrager in Middleburg, Ind. She lived in Hastings from 1945-75. She married Wilmer E. Eigsti, former Hastings Museum director. He preceded her in death. She later married William Rap. He also preceded her in death.

Survivors are five sons, Robert Eigsti of Colorado Springs, Colo., Philip Eigsti of Evansville, Ind., Jack Eigsti of Lincoln, David Eigsti of Midland, Mich., and Wilmer Eigsti of St. Anne, Ill.; five stepsons, Loren Rap of Riverside, Calif., Oren Rap of Portland, Ore., Willis Rap of Firth, Carlos Rap of Lincoln and Larry Rap of Ainsworth; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by 12 siblings.

Memorials may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene for Compassionate Ministries.

Helen A. Wailes

Friday, Dec. 17, 1999

Hastings resident Helen A. Wailes, 93, of Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Villa Grace.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Village All Saints Chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Judith Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Juniata Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mrs. Wailes was born Feb. 19, 1906, to Irving Baxter and Jennie (Rupp) Scudder in Juniata. She graduated from Juniata High School and attended Business College in Hastings. On July 21, 1930, she married Jesse Wailes in Aurora. She worked for several years at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings. She worked as an aide at the Hastings Regional Center and later did office work at Tri-County. On Jan. 10, 1973, her husband died. She had lived in Hastings for the past 22 years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hastings.

Survivor is one sister, Leola Marlar of Hastings.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Jean, and two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Disease Associations.

Ralph P. Kissinger Jr.

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000

Hastings resident Ralph P. Kissinger Jr., 85, of 319 North Shore Drive died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Fairfield Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. R.E. Buchtel officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mr. Kissinger was born Nov. 5, 1914, to Ralph Peter Sr. and June Rose (Troxel) Kissinger in Hastings. He graduated from Fairfield High School. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in 1937. In 1938 he married Bettsie Foote. He then graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., in 1939. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1957 after 24 years of service. He returned to take over the family farm in Clay County. In 1977 his wife died. On Feb. 7, 1979, he married Bernita Bridenhagen.

He was a member of the Fairfield Community Presbyterian Church and the American Legion in Fairfield.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter; two sons; one stepson; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the church or Hastings College.

Eula L. Schnell

Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999

Former Hastings resident Eula Lee (Clark) Bahr Schnell, 81, of Alma died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Harlan County Hospital in Alma.

The remains were cremated. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home chapel in Alma. Burial rites will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star Republican Chapter No. 304 of Republican City at a later date. There is no visitation.

Mrs. Schnell was born Sept. 17, 1918, to Guy Cameron and Mary (Crews) Clark near Eaton, Colo. She graduated from Eaton High School in 1936 and attended Barnes School of Commerce in Denver for one year. On Aug. 19, 1937, she married Frederick Bahr in Eaton. They lived in Onawa, Sloan and Whiting, Iowa, before moving to Barneston in 1938. In February 1958 her husband died and she took over the family grain business for five years. On Dec. 19, 1964, she married Leonard John Schnell. She sold the grain business and moved with her husband to Hastings. They moved to Republican City in 1975. She moved to the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma in 1997. Her husband died Aug. 4, 1997.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Barneston and Republican City. She was also a 4-H leader and served on the Taylor Manor Board in Republican City. She was a member of the IMP Club.

Survivors are one daughter, Mary Lee of Omaha; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established.
