Hastings resident Delbert Bauld, 87, of 513 Lane C died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are pending with Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings.

Alta Fassler Golay

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000

Minden resident Alta (Johnson) Fassler Golay, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at her home.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Bill Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mrs. Golay was born April 27, 1918, to Hans and Minnie (Rasmussen) Johnson near Minden. On April 19, 1947, she married L.E. "Bud" Fassler. They lived in Minden. In 1979 her husband died. On Feb. 10, 1983, she married Vern Golay. He died in 1992.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors are one son, Michael of Mountain Home, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Ritterbush of Cupertino, Calif., and Cathy Martin of LaVista, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Colene G. Hunter

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000

Superior resident Colene Gayle (Porter) Hunter, 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Rev. Jon Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Superior.

Mrs. Hunter was born July 28, 1916, to John T. and Elsie E. (Dixon) Porter in Superior. She attended Superior Public Schools. She lived in Colorado for six years before moving to the Superior and Webber, Kan., areas in the 1960s.

She had been a member of the Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary, all in Superior.

Survivors are one son, Cully Rumery of Grabenstetten, Germany; one daughter, Lesalene Stortzum of Collinsville, Ill.; one sister, Alberta Hicks of Superior; one brother, Wendell of Pasadena, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Richard J. Worman

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000

Red Cloud resident Richard J. Worman, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Webster County Hospital in Red Cloud.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Mike Lehr officiating. Burial will be in the Red Cloud Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Worman was born Dec. 13, 1925, to Jay and Hazel (Harvey) Worman in Franklin County near Riverton. He graduated from Inavale High School in 1943. From 1950-52 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Marjorie Ann Peterson in Red Cloud. They farmed near Inavale until he retired in 1981. In 1988 he and his wife moved into Red Cloud.

He was a charter member of the Harness Hustlers Driving Club.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Joyce Conner of Quincy, Wash.; one son, Harold of Glenvil; one brother, Sherman of Inavale; one sister, Ruth Bridges of McCook; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Larry Thornton

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000

Harvard resident Larry Thornton, 59, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at his home.

Services are pending with Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home in Harvard.

Carol 'Jean' Paiva

Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000

Former Hastings resident Carol "Jean" (Gillaspie) Paiva, 58, of Bristol, R.I., died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home.

Services are 9 a.m. Saturday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Jeff Clark officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings.

Mrs. Paiva was born Oct. 24, 1941, to Henry and Fannie (Shelbourn) Gillaspie in Bassett. Her family moved to Hastings when she was 4. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1960. She then worked for the telephone company. On Sept. 14, 1962, she married Alex Paiva in Hastings. They moved to Bristol where she attended Roger Williams University. She had worked for Pearson Boat Co. in Bristol for the last 20 years.

She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Bristol.

Survivors are her husband; two sons, Stephen and Scott, both of Bristol; three brothers, Gerald of Denver, James of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Richard of Lincoln; three sisters, Elinor Wendelin of Crete, Marianne Davis of Elm Creek and Ardith Kalberg of Overland Park, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the Humane Society.

Edith L. Lind

Dec. 27, 1999

Former Webster County resident Edith L. (Koepke) Lind, 90, of Peoria, Ariz., died Dec. 27, 1999, in Peoria.

Memorial services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Friedhem Lutheran Church in Funk with the Rev. Don Wilken officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Funk. Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary of Sun City, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lind was born Dec. 7, 1909, to Julius F. and Olga S. Koepke in Webster County. She graduated from Blue Hill High School and taught in a one-room schoolhouse for two years. She then graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in elementary education. In 1935 she married Elmer E. Lind. On Aug. 22, 1993, her husband died.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Omaha.

Survivors are two sons, Robert G. of Bayfield, Wis., and James D. of Tucson, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church Van Fund, 11025 N. 111th, Sun City, AZ 85351.

Amelia Miller

Monday, Jan. 3, 2000

Former Hastings resident Amelia (Bruntz) Miller, 90, of Lincoln died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Gregory Volzke officiating. Burial will be in the Juniata Cemetery. Visitation is 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 11, 1909, to William and Katherine (Deines) Bruntz in Longmont, Colo. She married Alois Miller. He died in 1991. She had lived at The Kensington in Hastings.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church near Prosser.

Survivors are one daughter, Kathleen Traudt of Lincoln; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald, and several brothers.

Memorials will be established.

Marilyn Rafat

Friday, Sept 3. 1999

Former Upland resident Marilyn Rafat, 66, of Lincoln, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, in Olathe, Kan.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln with the Rev. Mark Hannemann officiating, and 11 a.m. Thursday at the Upland Methodist Church in Upland. Burial will be in the Upland Cemetery. Visitation is until 8 p.m. today with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Rafat was born Sept. 10, 1932, to Edward and Karla (Hansen) Meiner in Upland.

She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Women's Circle, the Association of American Retired Persons and an active resident of Autumnwood, all in Lincoln.

Survivors are her husband, Tom; two sons, Reza of Lincoln and Alborz of Olathe, Kan.; one sister, Carol Allman of Bellevue; one brother, Neil Meiner of Upland; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Douglas W. Jorn

Friday, Sept. 3, 1999

Former Hastings resident Douglas W. Jorn, 80, of Beatrice, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at the Beatrice Community Hospital.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice with the Rev. Galen Wray officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Bitting-Norman Post No. 27. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jorn was born April 27, 1919, to Christian and Esther (Douglas) Jorn in Oberlin, Kan. He graduated from Decatur Community High School in Oberlin in 1936. He attended Hastings College and graduated from Barnes Business College in Denver. On March 22, 1941, he married Doris Allen in Denver. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, beginning in 1942. He was stationed in Africa from 1942-44, then was personnel/executive officer in Memphis, Tenn., until May 1945. He transferred to the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was a member of the Reserve Squadrons in Lincoln, Beatrice and Hastings. On Oct. 27, 1972, he retired as an Air Force colonel after completing 30 years of commissioned service. He received the European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, World War II Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Distinguished Service Award. He was employed by Carlson Frink Dairy Co. in Denver, Oberlin Milling Co. in Oberlin, Kan., York Milling Co. in York, Aller and Pease Inc. and Beatrice Concrete Co., both in Beatrice, Hastings Concrete Co. and Consolidated Concrete Co., both in Hastings, and Porto Mix Concrete Co. in Glenwood Springs, Colo.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. He was an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska and a hospice volunteer. He also was a member of the Bitting-Norman American Legion Post 27 and Geddes-Thober VFW Post 1077, both in Beatrice. From 1948-53, he was on the board of directors and a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce in Beatrice. He also served as the Nebraska vice president of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce in 1953. In Hastings, he was lieutenant governor of the Optimist of Nebraska in 1959, president in 1960, life member in 1961 and secretary in 1962. He served on the board of directors for the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce from 1958-63 and the YMCA from 1964-66. He served as Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce president in 1962 and YMCA president in 1966. He was trustee of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings from 1966-68 and a board member of the Meadowbrook Country Club from 1966-68. He was chairman of the American Legion Baseball Committee from 1968-75, member of the State of Nebraska American Legion Baseball Committee from 1972-75. He was a member of the board of directors for Nebraska Sand and Gravel and Ready Mix Concrete Association in 1970, and secretary-treasurer of that association in 1972, vice president in 1973 and president in 1974. He was a chair officer of BPO Elks from 1967-69. He was a former member of the American Legion, having served as commander in Oberlin, Kan., in 1946. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge and VFW, having served as commander in 1949, all in York. He participated in fund drives for the Red Cross, Community Chest, YMCA, Hastings College and Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Patricia Jorn of Lincoln; one son, Gary D. of Temecula, Calif.; one sister, Annie Laurie Jochums of Camarillo, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the Beatrice Hospice Program in care of the funeral home.

Arvilla E. Treat

Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999

Rural Hastings resident Arvilla E. (Toben) Treat, 64, of 905 E. 94th St., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Doniphan with the Rev. Rod Armon officiating. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery in Doniphan. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the church with family present. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Treat was born Sept. 6, 1934, to Henry and Martha (Porth) Toben in Doniphan. She graduated from Doniphan High School and Mary Lanning School of Nursing in Hastings. On May 5, 1957, she married R. Donald Treat at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Doniphan.

She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors are her husband of Hastings; one daughter, Celeste Wieland of Holyoke, Colo.; one son, Calvin of Omaha; four brothers, Victor, Arnold, Ronald and Wendell, all of Doniphan; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Memorials may be given to the church.

David M. Sullivan

Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999

Doniphan resident David M. Sullivan, 48, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at St. Francis Memorial Health Center in Grand Island.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island with the Revs. Don Larmore and John Hawkins officiating. The burial procession begins 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Doniphan. Burial will be in Cedarview Cemetery near Doniphan. Visitation will be until 7:30 p.m. today at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home of Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sullivan was born Sept. 18, 1950, to John and Milrae (Lepin) Sullivan in Grand Island. He grew up near Doniphan on the family farm. He attended Doniphan High School. On Feb. 13, 1971, he married Christy Lee Bartlett at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Doniphan. They lived near Doniphan, where he farmed with his father and sons.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and had attended the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. He was a life member of 4-H and a leader for the Doniphan Rustlers 4-H club for 10 years. He also was a member of the Doniphan Public Schools Board of Education for eight years.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, Erin Sullivan of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan Sullivan of Doniphan and Tim Fogle of Hastings; three daughters, Kimberly Fogle of Hastings, Angela Sullivan of Doniphan and Dena Sullivan of West Des Moines, Iowa; his mother of Doniphan; five sisters, Rosemary Triplett of Shelton, Connie Osler of Alda, Barb Page of LaVista, Linda Eihusen of Grand Island and Julie Brodrick of Doniphan; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be given to the family.
