Bloomington resident Laurel Alice (Hazlett) Schnuerle, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hutchins Funeral Home chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Duane Lauber officiating. Burial will be in the Naponee Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Schnuerle was born Oct. 3, 1910, to C.K. and Minnie (Kinney) Hazlett in rural Kansas south of Bloomington. She attended Lone Tree Rural School in Kansas. On April 5, 1936, she married Herman Schnuerle in Franklin. They farmed near Bloomington.
She attended the Wesleyan Church in Naponee.
Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Sandra Retzlaff of Lincoln; one son, Neil of Bloomington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

Hebron resident Mack M. Henning, 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Hebron with the Rev. John Walton officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hebron. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Hebron Memorial Funeral Home in Hebron and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
Mr. Henning was born March 9, 1911, to Henry W. and Pearl (McBeth) Henning in Hebron. He graduated from Hebron High School. He then began farming in the Hebron area. After retiring in 1990, he lived at Parkside Manor in Hebron. In 1992 he moved to Blue Valley Lutheran Home.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorials have been established.
Betty J. Woods

Sutton resident Betty Jo (Leard) Woods, 67, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
The remains were cremated. Private services will be at a later date. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Woods was born Sept. 15, 1932, to Earl and Ethel (Brewer) Leard in Paris, Texas. She was raised in Ventura, Calif., and graduated from Ventura High School in 1950. On July 12, 1952, she married Theodore A. Woods in Los Angeles. They lived in Wyoming before moving to Sutton, where they've lived for the last 10 years.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Susan George of Quinter, Kan., and Rosann Black of Farmington, N.M.; one brother, Horace Leard of Ojai, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Former Hastings resident Anna Mae (Trupp) Downey, 78, of Papillion, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at Papillion Manor in Papillion.
Private family services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens near Hastings. Kahler-Dolce Mortuary of Papillion is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Downey was born Oct. 17, 1920, to John and Mollie (Lissman) Trupp in Hastings. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School and attended Hastings Business College. On Aug. 1, 1940, she married Gerald H. Downey.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 32 in Papillion.
Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Karyn Kay Stevens of Washington state; one son, Brian T. of Omaha; her father of Hastings; one sister, Bonnie Scheele; three brothers, Wilson, Milan and Marvin "Al"; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother.

Lawrence A. Schwartz

Minden resident Lawrence A. Schwartz, 84, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at the Kearney County Health Services Long Term Care Unit in Minden.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Terry Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Schwartz was born Aug. 27, 1914, to Albert F. and Anna (Andersen) Schwartz in Hildreth. On June 5, 1949, he married Virginia Keen Bowker. He drove the first Hildreth School bus. Later he moved to Washington state where he worked as a mechanic for four years. He then returned to Hildreth and worked as a farmer. He also was affiliated with Schwartz Brothers Implement in Hildreth for many years. His wife died Aug. 16, 1974. On Feb. 19, 1983, he married Louise Kelso Petersen.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hildreth, later transferring to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. He also was a member of the Hildreth Fire Department and the Lions Club.
Survivors are his wife; six daughters, Brenda Westerbuhr of Hope, Ariz., Suzanne Crouse of Wahoo, Rosalea Jones of Holdrege, Connie Fish of Laramie, Wyo., Wanda Ruhge of Blair, and Jill Fritson of Minden; four sons, John Schwartz of Kearney, Robert Schwartz of Marion, N.D., Scott Petersen of Gilbert, Ariz., and Phil Petersen of Clarence, Iowa; two brothers, Ervin and Jack, both of Minden; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Hastings resident Marvin Edwin Lyngstad, 86, of 718 S. Bellevue Ave., died Thursday, May 20, 1999, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Richard A. Kothe officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery at Ayr. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lyngstad was born April 9, 1913, to Carl and Martha (Olsen) Lyngstad in York, N.D. On Nov. 9, 1936, he married Ruth Muller in Fergus Falls, Minn. In 1951 they moved to Hastings where he worked for Spitz Foundry.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings.
Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Mae Haney of Ayr, Betty Adams of Superior, Linda Becht of Briggsdale, Colo., and Lou Ann Bunde of Hastings; two sons, Melvin of Briggsdale and Jerry of Hastings; one sister, Florence Merz of Fergus Falls, Minn.; one brother, Clarence of Fergus Falls.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church.
Clara M. Frankforter

Hebron resident Clara M. (Houser) Frankforter, 89, died Thursday, May 20, 1999, in Hebron.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blue Valley Nursing Home chapel in Hebron, with the Rev. Jonathan Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere City Cemetery in Belvidere. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home in Hebron and one hour prior to services at the chapel.
Mrs. Frankforter was born Dec. 30, 1909, to Joe and Emma Houser in Daykin. On April 3, 1936, she married Chester A. Frankforter. He died July 13, 1966.
Survivors are two sons, Val of Lincoln and Max of Geneva; two daughters, Rosiland Brettmann of Deshler and Roma Bedlan of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Worm; one son, Gary; one sister; and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Hebron.
Dorothy M. Hintz

Hebron resident Dorothy Mae (Wiedel) Hintz, 58, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at the Thayer County Health Services hospital in Hebron of lymphoma/leukemia.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron with the Rev. Paul Sheehy officiating. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church with the Revs. Paul Sheehy and Tom Wiedel officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Hebron. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hintz was born Jan. 11, 1941, to Benjamin and Burnece (Hergott) Wiedel in Hebron. She grew up on a farm near Stoddard. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hebron through the eighth grade. In 1959 she graduated from Hebron High School. After high school, she was employed as a legal secretary for Orville Baldwin, Attorney at Law. She earned her children's literary art degree by correspondence. On Aug. 12, 1961, she married Darrell Lee Hintz at Sacred Heart Parish. She had worked as a journalist and photographer at the Deshler Rustler newspaper for the past 12 years. She was the founder of Bell Publishing Co. She also was the author of "Treasure in the Deep Blue Sea" and "The Real Crisis of Democracy" and had a weekly column, "Behind the Rolling Pin." She assisted in the compilation and writing of "The Bell," a church anthology for Sacred Heart Parish, and bibliographies for Carrie Hawks, Orville Elting, Bob Morland, Harlan Husa, the Edwards family and Ferd McKenzie. At the time of her death, she was working on a history book for the Hebron High School Class of 1959. She also was a reporter for the Southern Nebraska Register.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she taught catechism classes; the Nebraska Cowbells Association; Women Interested in Agriculture; Thayer County Livestock Feeders Association; Children's Literary Society, Toastmasters, Nebraska Right to Life; St. Ann's Altar Society and the American Cancer Society. She founded the Thayer County Right to Life Organization, and was board member of Farm Business Association and a 25-year 4-H leader.
Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Tammy Johnson of Hastings and Kristi Anguiano of Abilene, Kan.; two sons, Mark of Hebron and Matthew of Lincoln; four sisters, Jeanette Else and Joan Hintz, both of Hebron, Cathy Wiedel of Lincoln and Darlene Emanuel of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Michael John "Jack" Wiedel of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one stepsister, Mary Marr of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one stepbrother, Paul McKenzie of Osage Beach, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Ferd McKenzie; one brother and one stepsister.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Mychael Thomas Pickerill, infant son of Grey III and Nichol (Mintzmyer) Pickerill III of Lincoln, was stillborn Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services are pending with Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings.
Survivors are his parents; one brother; grandparents, including Grey Jr. and Karol Pickerill of Glenvil and Dennis Mintzmyer of Hastings; and great-grandparents, including Ethel Call of Bladen and Alvey "Tiny" and Berneice Turner of Hastings.

Hastings resident Samuel E. Ebersole, 96, of Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Ebersole was born Feb. 13, 1903, to Simon and Elizabeth (Lapp) Ebersole in Riverton. He was a farmer and lifelong area resident.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
