Brenda K. Shaw

Thursday, May 20, 1999

Guide Rock resident Brenda K. (Mulkey) Shaw, 42, died Thursday, May 20, 1999, at her home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Guide Rock United Methodist Church in Guide Rock with the Rev. Alvin E. Trucano officiating. Burial will be in Guide Rock Cemetery at Guide Rock. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shaw was born May 3, 1957, to Bill and Kay (Figgins) Mulkey at Nelson. As a young girl she lived with her family in Lincoln, Kearney, Colorado and Campbell before moving to Red Cloud. In 1975 she graduated from Red Cloud High School. On April 10, 1976, she married Keith D. Shaw in Guide Rock. She worked for South Central Community Health Center in Red Cloud, Granny's Kitchen in Guide Rock and Casey's General Store in Red Cloud.

Survivors are her husband; two daughters, Sarah Shaw of Roseland and Anna Shaw of Guide Rock; one son, Rodney Shaw of Hastings; her stepfather, Wayne Cover of Hastings; four sisters, Cyndi Schultz of Apple Valley, Calif., Kathy Stoner of Blue Hill, Linda Burnett of Hastings and Dawnetta Buckingham of North Bend; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cole J. Ochsner

Thursday, May 20, 1999

Sutton resident Cole Jeffrey Ochsner, 2, died Thursday, May 20, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton with the Rev. Warren Embree officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery at Sutton. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.

Cole was born July 15, 1996, to Jeff and Sheila (Ehly) Ochsner in Aurora. He was baptized in the Emmanuel Reformed Church.

Survivors are his parents; two brothers, Levi and Dillan, both of Sutton; grandparents, Darwyn and Linda Ochsner of Saronville and David and Sue Ehly of Sutton; and great-grandparents, Gideon and Ruth Redler and Louise Ehly, all of Sutton, and Dorothy Sultzer of Hastings.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Carrie W. 'Neata' Sutter

Monday, Sept. 6, 1999

Hastings resident Carrie Wauneta "Neata" (Stubbs) McEntee Russell Sutter, 81, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at her home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Gubser Funeral Home chapel in Ogallala with the Rev. David West officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Mrs. Sutter was born June 24, 1918, to Duncan James and Pauline Amanda (Schuchar) Stubbs in Burton. She married Robert McEntee. They operated Sports Service Cafe at Lake McConaughy and the Hungry Indian Cafe in Ogallala. In 1974 her husband died. She then moved to Ravenna and married Leonard Russell. She later moved to Hastings and married Robert Sutter.

Survivors are her husband; three sons, Robert McEntee of North Platte, Corky McEntee of Shelby and Tom McEntee of Ogallala; five daughters, Sarah Bloomberg and Linda Tuttle, both of Ogallala, Jenny McBride of Parkers Prairie, Minn., Maggie Pollock of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Timmie Bishop of Tucson, Ariz.; 33 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established.

Judith C. Hultine

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999

Former Tribland area resident Judith C. (Forsell) Hultine, 96, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sutton with the Revs. Elizabeth Hanley and Arthur H. Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the Saron Lutheran Cemetery near Saronville. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hultine was born Dec. 2, 1902, to John R. and Carolina A. (Samuelson) Forsell in Omaha. She attended Clay Center High School. In 1921 she graduated from the Lincoln Business School of Commerce in a secretarial course. She was employed as a secretary at the Old Trusty Office in Clay Center. On March 14, 1923, she married Lloyd E. Hultine at her parents' home in Clay Center. They farmed four miles northwest of Saronville where she taught piano and organ from 1934-82. On April 1, 1986, her husband died. She continued to live on the farm until January 1991 when she moved to Sunnyside Home and later Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, both in Hastings. In 1995 she moved to Holmes Lake Manor.

She was a member of the Saron Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saronville and then the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sutton.

Survivors are one daughter, Jeannine Bauer of Lincoln; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Dale; two brothers; one sister; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.

Lena L. (Schmidt) Lukas

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999

Campbell resident Lena L. (Schmidt) Lukas, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at the Webster County Community Hospital in Red Cloud.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Merten-Butler Mortuary chapel in Blue Hill with the Rev. Baldeo Singh officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home with the family present from 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Lukas was born Aug. 31, 1911, to Herman and Minnie (Fesenbach) Schmidt on a farm northeast of Blue Hill. The family moved to a farm three miles east of Blue Hill. She attended School District 45. On Oct. 18, 1933, she married Frank R. Lukas in Clay Center. They moved to Colorado in 1936 and farmed there until 1944. They then moved to Blue Hill to farm until 1952 when they moved into Blue Hill. She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings, the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant in Grand Island and at the Blue Hill Cleaners. On Nov. 21, 1981, her husband died. She moved to Grandview Manor in Campbell in 1998.

Survivors are two daughters, Joan Parnell of Mountain Hope, Ark., and Roberta Turner of Campbell; one sister, Adeline Rogers of Red Cloud; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

A memorial has been established.

Lowell D. Korgan

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999

Hastings resident Lowell D. Korgan, 61, of 822 E. Third St., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Private graveside services will be at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements. The remains were cremated.

Mr. Korgan was born Dec. 9, 1937, to Joseph and Velma (Wyatt) Korgan in Hastings. He married Cheri Heuske in 1957 in Hastings. They later divorced. On Nov. 25, 1988, he married Charlene Haines. He was employed as a working plant manager for Fleming Manufacturing Co. in Hastings. He later worked for Duane's Welding in Hastings and Hastings Public Schools. He was a Wal-Mart associate in Hastings until his death.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Joseph Korgan of Oceanside, Calif.; two daughters, Annette Koch of Sultan, Wash., and Melanie Allen of Hastings; four stepsons, Guy Embree of Siloam Springs, Ark., Dave Embree of Arkansas, Terry Embree of Hastings and John Embree of Trophy Club, Texas; one stepdaughter, Christina Stemper of Nelson; his mother of Harvard; one brother, Everette of Hastings; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the family for St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Nelson Girls Softball League.

James H. 'Hughie' Johnson

Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999

Former Davenport resident James H. "Hughie" Johnson, 63, of Boscawen, N.H., died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his home.

Memorial services were Sept. 1 in Concord, N.H., with the Masons, Order of the Eastern Star and the Rev. Dwight V. Meader officiating. Bennett Funeral Home of Concord, N.H., was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson was born March 25, 1936, to Frank E. and Marguerite E. (Thieman) Johnson in Davenport. He served in the U.S. Navy and was aboard the first nuclear submarine, the USS Nautilus, when it made the first journey under the North Pole. He married Efstathia Bliziotis. She preceded him in death in 1983. He married Emily Watts in 1990. He was a foreman for the Portsmouth Naval Yard for many years. Recently, he had been a groundskeeper and field painter for York High School in Maine and Winnisquam High School in Tilton, N.H.

He was a member of the Doric Lodge No. 78 in Tilton and the Tilton-Northfield Fraternal Association in New Hampshire, of which he was treasurer. He was a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Relham-Martha Chapter No. 46 in Enfield, N.H., and a past grand warden of the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire Order of the Eastern Star. He was past master and secretary of the St. Aspinquid Lodge No. 198 in York Village, Maine. He also was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine, the York County Shrine, the Maine Royal Arch No. 76 and the Commandery, all in Maine.

Survivors are his wife; one son, James H. III of York, Maine; three daughters, Kathy Golisano of York, Maine, Sharon Johnson of Winterport, Maine, and Jenifer Jones of Manchester, N.H.; one stepson, Scott Cough of Stilton, N.H.; his mother of Kearney; one sister, Sheila Elder of Cowden, Ill.; one grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire, P.O. Box 215, Tilton, NH 03276, or the American Heart Association, 10 Merrimack Street, Suite 1, Manchester, NH 03101-2244.

Barbara M. Steinke

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999

Services for Hastings resident Barbara M. Steinke, 63, of 1200 Country Club Drive, who died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island, are 11 a.m. Saturday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Revs. Harold Stromer and Kathleen Kasper officiating. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Andrew L. Kruse

Monday, Sept. 6, 1999

Hastings resident Andrew Lloyd Kruse, 82, of 1342 N. Cedar Ave., died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Donald Boeschen officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Thursday with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Mr. Kruse was born Jan. 20, 1917, to John and Clara (Frohberg) Kruse in Bremen, Kan. He graduated after attending eight years of country school. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. On June 15, 1946, he married Luella Anna Lauth in Riverside, Ill. They moved to the Naval Air Station base in Millington, Tenn. Later, they moved to San Diego and then to the Air Technical Naval Training Center in Norman, Okla. He then was transferred to Hawaii. They moved to Foley, Ala., and Rhode Island before moving to Hastings in 1961. He worked as a recruiter for the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 1964. He was a postal employee for 14 years in Hastings.

He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Laymen's League.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Joel of Corinth, Texas; one daughter, Judy Pachnieski of Newington, Conn.; one sister, Mildred Mullen of Wheatridge, Colo.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Memorials may be given to the Peace Lutheran Church.

Alfred F. Trausch

Friday, Sept. 3, 1999

Former Roseland resident Alfred F. Trausch, 85, of Riverside, Calif., died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at his home.

Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. Christopher K. Kubat officiating. Services and burial will be in Riverside. Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary of Riverside is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Trausch was born Feb. 17, 1914, to Matthew and Catherine (Kaiser) Trausch in Assumption. He graduated from Assumption Catholic School. He moved to Los Angeles in 1940. On Aug. 31, 1943, he married Florence McDonald. He worked as an aviation aircraft inspector and as foreign services technical representative for Douglas Aircraft Co. in California with service in Africa and Iran. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Sharon Jo Sebok and Nancy Brucks, both of California; one son, Alfred Jr. of Alabama; four sisters, Martha Preissler of Grand Island, Laurine Preissler of Harvard and Susan Thaut and Jeanette Svoboda, both of Hastings; four brothers, Edward and Charles, both of Riverside, Vern of Arizona and Elmer of Hastings; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Harry D. 'Kasey' Kazebeer

Monday, Sept. 6, 1999

Hastings resident Harry D. "Kasey" Kazebeer, 94, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Perkins Pavilion.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home in Hastings with the Rev. Walter Bye officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kazebeer was born July 2, 1905, to Sherman and Alice (Hankerson) Kazebeer near Dorchester. He moved to Hastings in 1924 and entered the automobile business. He started his first used car dealership, Kasey's Used Cars, in Hastings in 1926. On April 20, 1926, he married Iva L. Young in Lincoln. She died on May 15, 1984.

He was a member of the Eagles and a past member of Used Car Dealers Association.

Survivors are one daughter, Betty Anderson of Hastings; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert; two sisters; three brothers; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Mary Lanning Home Away From Home.

Edwin W. Griess

Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999

Sutton resident Edwin W. Griess, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at the Bryan LGH Medical Center in Lincoln.

Services were to be 1:30 p.m. today at Kohler Mortuary in Sutton with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Burial was to be in the Sutton Cemetery.

Mr. Griess was born May 17, 1912, to William J. and Sophie (Griess) Griess in Fillmore County. He attended rural school near Sutton. On Dec. 31, 1953, he married Viola Eva Schmidt Hunzeker in Sutton. He worked as an auto mechanic for more than 30 years in the Sutton area. On Oct. 9, 1979, his wife died. He was a resident of the Sutton Community Home for the past six years.

He was a member of the Free German Reformed Salem Church.

Survivors are one stepson, Joe Hunzeker of Marion, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Joan Haslow of Scottsbluff; six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; seven half sisters; and three half brothers.

Memorials may be given to the family.
