Blair resident Doris L. (Fuller) Reisen Chandler, 81, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Parkview Center Social Hall in Blair. Private burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery. Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home of Tekamah is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Chandler was a former employee of Good Samaritan Center in Superior.

Former Tribland area resident Mildred V. (Hand) Baker, 89, of Lenexa, Kan., died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Overland Park Manor in Overland Park, Kan.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Funeral Home chapel in Overland Park. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Clay Center Cemetery. Visitation is 6:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Clay Center.
Mrs. Baker was born Dec. 14, 1910, to Homer Maurice and Alta May (Mitchell) Hand in Fairfield. She graduated in 1929 from Clay Center High School and attended cosmetology school in Lincoln. She was a beautician and owned a business in Edgar. On March 11, 1946, she married O.R. "Ray" Baker in Marysville, Kan. They moved to the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 1993 her husband died.
She was a member of the Lenexa United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Swope Park Chapter.
She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Country Club Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, in care of Elnora Clark, 9931 McGee, Kansas City MO 64114-4138.
Virgil R. Wommer

Minden resident Virgil R. Wommer, 74, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Bill Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery near Minden with military rites conducted by Heartwell VFW Post No. 5537. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Wommer was born Oct. 19, 1925, to Edward and Carrie (Hawkinson) Wommer in Minden. He attended grade school at District 47 and graduated from Minden High School in 1943. He farmed with his father until 1950 when he joined the U.S. Army. He served with the 14th Armed Field Artillery 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas, and then in Goshenheim, Germany. He was discharged in 1952 at Fort Sheridan, Ill. He returned to Minden to farm. On Oct. 17, 1954, he married Lee Isla Mae Bremer in Grand Island. He worked for Minden Beef for more than four years and at Baldwin-Clarcor in Kearney for more than 20 years. He retired in 1991. He and his wife moved into Minden in 1993, and he continued to farm.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Heartwell VFW Post No. 5537 and served on the Liberty Cemetery Board.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Anna Wehnes of Inland and Esther Johnson of Upland; one son, William of Minden; two sisters, Edna Brumbaugh of Bellevue and Mary Elaine Haws of Minden; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
JoAnn L. Konen

Hastings resident JoAnn Lucille (Parr) Konen, 67, of 1718 Apache Ave. died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. today and services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Revs. David F. Bourek and Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in the Assumption Cemetery in rural Roseland. Visitation is 6:30-8:30 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Konen was born July 6, 1932, to Lawrence and Helen (Kaiser) Parr in rural Holstein. She attended country school and graduated from high school in Roseland. On June 26, 1951, she married Jerome E. Konen at Assumption Catholic Church in rural Roseland. She was the village clerk for Roseland and owned and operated Konen Tax and Bookkeeping.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its choir, Hastings Catholic Outreach Program and Catholic Daughters and was treasurer of Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its choir. She served as president, treasurer and secretary for Sacred Heart Altar Society. She also had served as president and director of Hastings Deanery of Catholic Women.
Survivors are her husband; one son, Jeff of Lexington; five daughters, Jackie Waits of Hastings, Jolene Heuertz of Roseland, Jeanne Pieper of North Platte, Julie Sorensen of Kearney and Janice Kaufman of Ankeny, Iowa; four brothers, Gene and David, both of Roseland, Larry Joe of Red Cloud and Ronald of Hastings; two sisters, Evelyn Horton and Mary Verkamp, both of Hastings; and 16 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
A memorial has been established.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem Lutheran Church south of Nelson with the Rev. Clinton McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schleif was born May 16, 1924, to Gus and Minnie (Togel) Schleif on a farm northeast of Bostwick. He attended school at Abdal District No. 92 until illness caused him to become bedfast for the rest of his life.
Survivor is a brother, Richard E. of Nelson.
He was preceded in death by one sister.

Superior resident Gail C. Hudiburgh, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Superior.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior with the Revs. Jon Albrecht and James Brackett officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in rural Northbranch, Kan.
Mr. Hudiburgh was born March 22, 1912, to William D. and Maude (Hutchinson) Hudiburgh in rural Northbranch. He graduated from Northbranch Academy. On April 22, 1931, he married Ellen McNichols. In 1948 they moved to a farm south of Superior. He worked for Ideal Cement for 27 years. On July 19, 1997, his wife died.
He was a member of the Olive Hill Church.
Survivors are two daughters, Lorna M. Wilton of Superior and Karen V. Price of Nehalem, Ore.; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Wendell; two brothers; and two sisters.
Memorials may be given in care of the family.
Charles W. 'Chuck' Jenkins

Kenesaw resident Charles W. "Chuck" Jenkins, 69, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Haven Home in Kenesaw.
Services are private with the family. There is no viewing or visitation. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jenkins was born Oct. 23, 1930, to Marion and Nellie (Anderson) Jenkins in O'Neill. He was a welder/machinist for a potato processing company. He had lived in Merrill, Ore., until he became ill while visiting his mother in Kenesaw in July.
Survivors are five children; his mother of Hastings; and one sister, June Kehn of Hastings.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Thurlo E. McCrady

Former Hastings resident Thurlo E. "Mac" McCrady, 91, of Lake San Marcos, Calif., died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Mr. McCrady was born July 31, 1907, to Daisy (Kirk) and Walter McCrady in Coon Rapids, Iowa. In 1925 he graduated from Hastings Senior High School. On June 2, 1928, he married Edythe Dominy in Hastings. In 1929 he graduated cum laude from Hastings College. In 1940 he received a master's degree in physical education administration from the University of Southern California. From 1929-32 he taught math and coached at Superior High School in Superior. From 1932-41 he coached football, basketball and track at Hastings College. From 1941-47 he coached football and basketball and was athletic director at South Dakota State University. From 1947-51 he was athletic director at Kansas State University. In 1951 he returned to Hastings where he was partner in the A.H. Jones Co. In 1959 he became assistant commissioner of the American Football League. In 1967 he became executive director of the American Basketball Association. He was instrumental in starting both professional leagues. In 1976 he retired to Lake San Marcos, Calif. He was inducted into the NCAA Hall of Fame/Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1989 he was inducted into the Hastings College Athletic Hall of Fame as both a coach and an athlete. In 1995 he was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Don McCrady of Hastings; one daughter, Kathy Jensen of Grand Junction, Colo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Robert McCrady; and one daughter, Marilyn McCrady.
Memorials may be given to the Thurlo McCrady Scholarship Fund in care of Hastings College.
Richard O. Potter

Hastings resident Richard O. Potter, 69, of 1101 E. 5th St., died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Royce Buchtell officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery at Fairfield with military rites presented by American Legion Post No. 256 of Fairfield.
Mr. Potter was born Oct. 14, 1929, to Richard H. and Hazel (Shaw) Potter in Seneca, Kan. He attended school in Seneca. From 1946-49 he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps medical corps. On Jan. 10, 1948, he married Shirley J. Patton at Kessler Air Force base in Biloxi, Miss. After World War II he graduated from Midwest School of Optics in Chicago. He was an optician in Grand Island, Lexington, Crete, Red Cloud and finally Hastings. He was the partner of the House of Optics in Hastings and in 1991 sold the business. He worked in Red Cloud one day each week until 1996. He was a resident at Villa Grace for the past 1 1/2 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 111 of Lexington.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Richard III of Homer and Jon of Elizabeth, Colo.; one sister, Ilene Knight of Fallon, Nev.; one brother, Gary of La Mesa, Calif.; one half-brother, H. Russell Cook of Waynesboro. Penn.; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Arlington resident Marian H. Laaker, 76, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Arlington. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Monday and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington.
Survivors are two sons, including Richard of Fairfield; two daughters, including Mary Tenhoff of Ayr; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Donald R. Hollis

Riverton resident Donald R. Hollis, 64, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Riverton Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Carroll officiating. Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hollis was born Dec. 15, 1935, to Ora L. and Faye Maxine (Myers) Hollis in Clarinda, Iowa. He moved with his family in 1942 to Juniata and then to Riverton in 1945. He attended Riverton schools and graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1953. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1953-56 during the Korean War. On Feb. 26, 1954, he married Marilyn Warriner in Franklin. They lived in St. Louis where he was a quality inspector for McDonald Aircraft Co. In 1965 he and his wife returned to the Riverton area. He managed the grain elevator in Franklin for Evans Grain Co. until retirement.
He was the post commander of the Riverton American Legion, was a member of the Macon Eagles Lodge and a past member of the Riverton Board of Education. He was former mayor of Riverton.
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Cynthia Rubendall of Franklin, Dianne Nichols of Riverton and Jennifer Lynne Behlmann of Kearney; one sister, Evelyn Grabast of Franklin; one brother, Gerald of Camarillo, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Joyce Porter; and one son, Donald R. Jr.
Memorials may be given to the Riverton American Legion Post.
