Errol L. Goldsbury

Monday, Feb. 21, 2000

Former Tribland area resident Errol Leslie Goldsbury, 78, of Columbus died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Graveside services are 3 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery at Franklin with military rites by the Franklin American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation is 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lt. Col. Goldsbury was born Jan. 9, 1922, to Leslie and Grace (Allen) Goldsbury in Franklin. He graduated from Franklin High School. On Sept. 27, 1941, he married Lucille Hogeland at Camas, Wash. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps Sept. 19, 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II. He remained in the military after the war and flew combat missions in Vietnam for the U.S. Air Force. He also served as commander of the Air Force Radar Detachment in Marrakesh, Morocco, for three years. He retired from the Air Force July 31, 1967. He and his wife then moved to Hastings, where he sold insurance and Westland modular homes. Later they moved to Missouri, then Florida, and finally Columbus in 1999.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Shriners and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He also was a 32nd-Degree Mason.

He received the Arm Forces Reserve Medal, Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four bronze leaves, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, American Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with BSS, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Outstanding Unit Award and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Tim of Tequesta, Fla.; one daughter, Tammi Gotschall of Columbus; three brothers, John of Washington, Neil of Oregon and Robert of Florida; one sister, Darlene Graf of Nebraska; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Federated Church Building Fund of Columbus or the American Association for Respiratory Care.

Edgerray T. Beach

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000

Glenvil resident Edgerray T. Beach, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tim Wiggins officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, 1-9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Beach was born Feb. 12, 1925, to Ray and Dora (Collicutt) Beach in Osborne, Kan. He attended school in Great Bend, Kan. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was discharged on Feb. 18, 1946. He was stationed for most of that time in the Mediterranean Sea, except for the last few months when he worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings and the Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois. On Nov. 2, 1945, he married Alvera Alber in Osborne. They lived in Great Bend, Hastings and Roseland before moving to Trumbull for more than 30 years. He was a welder for Western Land Roller in Hastings, Cornhusker Ammunition Depot in Grand Island, and the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center at Clay Center. In 1987 he retired and they moved to Naponee. They moved to Glenvil five years ago.

Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Lois Hansbery of Hillsboro, Wis., Bonnie Yost and Patty Ptacnik, both of Hastings, and Yvonne Goodell of Red Cloud; four sons, Ronnie, Lonnie and Eddie, all of Hastings, and Jerry of Lincoln; one sister, Clara Stidham of Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenvil or Glenvil American Legion Post 26.

Vera L. Tegeler

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000

Former Naponee resident Vera Ladora (Graf) Carnes Tegeler, 86, of Lincoln died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at her home.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home chapel in Alma with the Rev. Lyn Seiser officiating. Burial will be in the Alma Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday at Roper & Sons mortuary in Lincoln and 10 a.m. until service time Monday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tegeler was born Sept. 4, 1913, to William Jacob and Sarah Daisy (Robertson) Graf on a farm near Naponee. She attended Turkey Creek Rural School District 14 southeast of Huntley in Harlan County and graduated from Franklin High School in 1931. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1938 with a bachelor's degree in home economics. She did graduate work and additional studies at the University of Colorado, the University of Minnesota, Western State College, Colorado State University, Adams State College and the University of Southern Colorado. She taught high school home economics for two years at Page and for three years at Fairbury. On Sept. 4, 1943, she married Gayel Glaydon Carnes at Trenton, Mo. They lived in Ames, Iowa, for 12 years before moving to La Junta, Colo., in 1955. She taught science and home economics at La Junta Junior High School for 22 years. Her husband died on Jan. 18, 1974. She retired after 27 years of teaching in 1981. On Oct. 26, 1986, she married Norman F. Tegeler. They lived in Lincoln. He died on Nov. 29, 1996.

She attended First United Methodist Church in La Junta and a Lutheran church in Lincoln. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, the American Association of University Women, University of Nebraska Alumni Association, the Colorado Education Association, the Nebraska Education Association and the National Education Association.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Survivors are one son, Bruce Carnes of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; one daughter, Janis Shue of Los Gatos, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association or the donor's choice.

Lester P. Nelson

Friday, Feb. 18, 2000

Minden resident Lester P. Nelson, 90, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Dr. Bill Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mr. Nelson was born March 31, 1909, to John N. and Martena (Christiansen) Nelson in Upland. He grew up in the Upland area and attended Osco and Upland schools. On June 21, 1926, he married Ruby Hendricks in McCook. They farmed in the Minden area for 18 years. He then worked for Tri-Co Feed Mill and later managed the Farmer's Union Station in Minden for 25 years. He retired in 1974.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Minden.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Carol Wright of Minden and Jackie Meester of Kearney; one sister, Irene Bjorklun of Kearney; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Roger.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Mildred L. Hathaway

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000

Hastings resident Mildred L. (Towner) Hathaway, 85, of 314 Ringland Road died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. today and Sunday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Mrs. Hathaway was born Dec. 2, 1914, to Earl and Veryl (Carmen) Towner in Emporium, Pa. She graduated in 1932 from Emporium High School. She worked for Sylvania Electric Co. in Emporium from 1935-45. On Jan. 17, 1945, she married William "Bill" Hathaway in Emporium. In 1953 they moved to Hastings.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women Association, YWCA and VFW Auxiliary Post No. 10562, all of Hastings.

Survivors are her husband; one son, William A. of Hastings; two daughters, Annette Theaker of Ramona, Calif., and Karen Gibb of Avon, Conn.; one sister, Marie Mumford of Emporium; one brother, Earl L. of Lakeland, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Adams County Cancer Society.

Lynn C. Johnson

Friday, Feb. 18, 2000

Shickley resident Lynn C. Johnson, 88, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Geneva.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Shickley with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Burial with masonic services by Lily Lodge No. 154 of Davenport is at Shickley Public Cemetery in Shickley. Farmer & Son Funeral Home of Geneva is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson was born May 22, 1911, to Claus and Emelia (Bjorkland) Johnson at Shickley.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Janice Spurling and Barbara Johnson, both of Shickley; one brother, Edwin of Shickley; one sister, Pearle Holsten of North Platte; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be give to the church.

Grace A. Cushing

Former Hastings resident Grace A. Cushing, 95, of Alliance died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Alliance.

Rosary is 10 a.m. Tuesday with services following at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. Larry Gyhra and Monsignor Ivan Vap officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Hastings Catholic Schools Trust.

John R. Keedle

Wednesday, April 26, 2000

Hastings resident John R. Keedle, 76, of 1514 W. Second St. died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hastings with the Rev. John Lee Ross officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mr. Keedle was born Aug. 4, 1923, to Dewey and Anna (Johnson) Keedle in Minden. He graduated from Minden High School in 1942. From 1943-46 he served in the U.S. Navy. On Oct. 3, 1947, he married Edna L. Luce in Kearney. He retired from Westland Building Co. in Hastings in 1983 and operated John's Saw Sharpening in Hastings until his death.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Sheila Shaney of Kenesaw and Vicki Salmon of Hastings; one son, Thomas of Berthoud, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Ann Guyer of Lincoln and Illene Olsen of Hastings; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the church.

Esther J. Mickelsen

Wednesday, April 26, 2000

Superior resident Esther J. (Johnson) Mickelsen, 90, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at her home.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church in Superior with the Revs. Mark Diehl and Rick Cepris officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fairbury Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home of Superior is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mickelsen was born July 5, 1909, to Joseph and Maude (Condon) Johnson in Aurora. She graduated from high school in Aurora in 1927. She then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and taught at rural schools in Hamilton County for eight years. On Aug. 9, 1936, she married Chauncey B. Mickelsen in Aurora. They moved to Fairbury in 1937 and then to Superior in 1961.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and was active in the women's organization. She was a member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Vashti Chapter No. 68 in Fairbury, a member of O.E.S. Olive Chapter No. 63 in Superior, former district supervisor of Eastern Star and a grand representative to Ohio for two years. She also was a member of Chapter DS, P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Ruskin Lodge No. 161 of the Danish Brotherhood.

Survivors are her husband; one son, Philip of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Judith Ann Arntt of Steele City; one sister, Frances Saylor of Aurora; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Phyllis J. 'P.J.' Kimle

Memorial services for former Campbell resident Phyllis Jane "P.J." Kimle, 48, of Thermopolis, Wyo., who died Monday, April 24, 2000, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minden. Services were to be 2 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Thermopolis with the Rev. Joe Galligan officiating. Burial was to be at Monument Hill Cemetery in Thermopolis. Mortimore Funeral Home of Thermopolis is in charge of arrangements.

Mary J. McClure

Former Hastings resident Mary Jane (Campbell) McClure, 83, of Prairie Village Retirement Center in Columbus, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings with the Rev. Dr. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McClure was born Oct. 21, 1916, to A.B. and Sue (Coltrane) Campbell in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from high school in Greensburg, Kan., and attended Fort Hayes State College in Kansas. On Jan. 11, 1947, she married S.V. "Mac" McClure in Wichita, Kan. They lived in Wichita, New York and New Jersey before moving to Hastings in 1957. On Jan. 10, 1999, her husband died. She then moved to Columbus.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.

Survivors are one daughter, Linda Argue of Middleton, Wis.; one son, John of Columbus; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the Federated Church of Columbus Building Fund, Columbus Community Hospital Building Fund or the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.

William N. Bockerman

Friday, April 21, 2000

Hastings resident William N. Bockerman, 78, of 1817 Boyce St., died Friday, April 21, 2000, at his home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mr. Bockerman was born July 16, 1921, to August and Iva (Currier) Bockerman in Adams County. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. On June 22, 1946, he married Velma A. Watkins. He farmed near Holstein and Calaway and worked as a head weighman at Garvey and Morrison Quirk Elevators. He was a custodian for Hastings Senior High School for about 18 years.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Kay Koertner of Hastings and Linda Kube of Grand Island; two sons, Ronald of Springfield and Richard of Lincoln; four sisters, Betty Robison of Springfield, Mo., Edith Fricke and Dorothy Hinrickus, both of Hastings and Bonnie McCleod of Juniata; three brothers, Mervin and Raymond, both of Hastings and Bernard of Prosser; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to the church building fund.
