Kenneth A. Palmer

Saturday, July 10, 1999

Former Tribland resident Kenneth A. Palmer, 78, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at his home.

Services are 9 a.m. Monday at Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler, Ariz. Burial will be in Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler.

Mr. Palmer was born Feb. 19, 1921, to Faye and Ethel "Mamie" Palmer in Red Cloud. He graduated from Red Cloud High School in Red Cloud. On Sept. 9, 1941, he married Betty Bell. From 1942-46 he served in the U.S. Army as a captain in the 4th division during World War II. He then worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Nelson. In 1947 he was transferred to Clay Center. He later worked for Western Land Roller Co. of Hastings. In 1983 he retired. He and his wife moved to Sun Lakes.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Barbara Aguilera of Mesa, Ariz., and Linda Swanson of Redlands, Calif.; one son, Gary of Camp Verde, Ariz.; two sisters, Phyllis Offner and Darlene Reiher, both of Red Cloud; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the "Arizonans for Nebraska" in memory of Ken Palmer, in care of Radio Broadcast, P.O. Box 50873, Phoenix, AZ 85076.

John H. Krull

Monday, July 12, 1999

Hastings resident John H. Krull, 84, of 911 E. Sixth St., died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill with the Rev. Bill Westman officiating. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery in Blue Hill. Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Krull was born Sept. 20, 1914, to Henry H. and Jennie (Epkes) Krull in Adams County. He attended School District No. 7 until the eighth grade. On Feb. 14, 1946, he married Tacy A. Hoagland in Hastings. In 1982 he moved from his farm near Blue Hill to Hastings.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Betty Eckhardt of Ayr; three sons, Marlin of Lincoln, Vernon of Hastings and Burnell of Harvard; one brother, Jacob of Grand Island; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Hill or the Diabetes Association.

Keith A. Doss

Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999

Former Hastings resident Keith A. Doss, 72, of Omaha, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in Omaha.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Dean Joy officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Hastings.

Mr. Doss was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Randolph, Iowa. He was a graduate of Hastings College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. On Aug. 10, 1947, he married Shirley Fraser in Hastings. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired in 1989 from Methodist Health Systems. He and his wife moved from Hastings to Omaha in 1997.

Survivors are his wife; one son, Walter of Omaha; one daughter, Onalee Doss of Omaha; one sister, Joyce Nichols of Omaha; and one grandchild.

Claus H. Meyer

Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999

Hastings resident Claus H. Meyer, 88, of 2406 Bateman St., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with the Rev. Harold Stromer officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at Glenvil. Visitation is noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings.

Mr. Meyer was born Feb. 26, 1911, to Fred and Anna (Hinrichs) Meyer near Glenvil. He was crippled by polio at age 13. On Sept. 17, 1939, he married Lydia Glaum. He learned the watch repair business and owned C.H. Meyer Jewelry in Hastings for many years. On Jan. 29, 1971, his wife died. On April 15, 1972 he married Myrtle Struble. He retired in 1976 but continued to repair watches in his home for many years.

He was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Ronald of Littleton, Colo., and Roger of Los Angeles; one stepdaughter, Bea Urwiller of Ravenna; two sisters, Helen Classen of Glenvil and Louise Saathoff of Waterloo, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Memorials will be established.

Irene Koch

Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999

Hastings resident Irene (DeTour) Koch, 77, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Perkins Pavilion.

Services are 10 a.m. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in the Holstein Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 1-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Koch was born June 26, 1922, to Fred and Anna (Hynes) DeTour in Bladen. She graduated from Holstein High School. On Sept. 10, 1940, she married David Marshall Koch Jr. She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings. In 1986 her husband died.

She was a member of a Ladies' Auxiliary.

Survivors are four daughters, Dorothy Egan of Panama, Sharon Knudson of Arvada, Colo., Mary Warburton of Hastings and Patricia Hinrichs of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sons, Michael of Stockton, Calif., Roger of Hastings and Daniel of Kearney; two brothers, Bernard DeTour and Leonard DeTour, both of Hastings; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Vernon L. Hawke

Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999

Kenesaw native Vernon L. Hawke, 71, of Grand Island, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at St. Francis Skilled Care Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Kleine Funeral Home chapel in Grand Island with the Rev. Richard Karohl officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. The remains were cremated. Godberson Funeral Home of Gibbon and Kleine Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hawke was born Sept. 9, 1928, to Alva E. and Clara (Armstrong) Hawke at Kenesaw. He grew up in Gibbon and graduated from high school there. On June 1, 1948, he married Anna Dean Sargent at Santa Fe, N.M. They lived in and near Gibbon and Broken Bow until 1970 when they moved to Grand Island. He worked for Peter Kiewit Construction as a truck driver for 18 years. He also worked for S&C Motors for a short time before becoming owner and operator of Hawke's Trucking Co. He retired due to ill health.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Danny of Broken Bow and Jeff of Grand Island; two sisters, Verda Carpenter of Muncie, Ind., and Marguerite Yoachim of Hastings; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Greg; one brother; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Carol R. Paczkowski

Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999

Hastings resident Carol R. Paczkowski, 77, of 135 E. Ninth St., died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings with the Rev. Bill Liddell officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Paczkowski was born Oct. 10, 1922, to Cashmir and Belle (Mortensen) Paczkowski in Freeborn, Minn. On March 25, 1944, he married Kathryn P. Pedersen. He owned and operated an insulation company in North Dakota. He continued his company, Northern Insulation, when he moved to Hastings in 1966. He retired in 1989.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Norma Burlington of Lincoln; two sons, Steven and Randi, both of Hastings; one brother, Clem of Austin, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be given to the Carol R. Paczkowski Memorial Fund.

Helen A. Wailes

Friday, Dec. 17, 1999

Hastings resident Helen A. Wailes, 93, of Good Samaritan Village Villa Grace, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at Villa Grace.

Services are pending with Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings.

Mary L. Shurigar

Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999

Kenesaw resident Mary L. (Phillips) Shurigar, 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Aurora, Colo.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church in Kenesaw with the Rev. Terry Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Mrs. Shurigar was born Feb. 22, 1920, to Ray and Frances (Martin) Phillips at Harvard. She graduated from Harvard High School in 1937. On Sept. 16, 1940, she married Wilson Shurigar at Seneca, Kan. They moved to Omaha and lived there until 1948 when they returned to Kenesaw. She worked at Kenesaw Bank, now Adams County Bank, until 1987 when she retired. Her husband died July 17.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its Women's Group, in which she held many offices. She also held offices at the Kenesaw Senior Center.

Survivors are one daughter, Glenda L. Shurigar of Hastings; three sons, Jon of Aurora, Colo., Clinton of North Platte and Steven of Holstein; two sisters, Sara Hempel of Everett, Wash., and Loraine Rub of Simi Valley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Florence M. Kuehn

Friday, Oct. 22, 1999

Minden resident Florence Marie (Merklein) Kuehn, 92, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at the Kearney County Health Services Longterm Care Unit in Minden.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. today at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.

Mrs. Kuehn was born Oct. 31, 1906, to John and Henrietta (Horz) Merklein near Stuttgart, Kan., in Phillips County. On April 1, 1929, she married Gustav "Gus" Kuehn. They farmed near Heartwell. In 1987 her husband died. She moved to the Longterm Care Unit in 1998.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She also was a member of the HHH Extension Club.

Survivors are one son, Roger of Heartwell; two daughters, Dorothy Latter of Grand Island and Elvera "Alfie" Moore of North Platte; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one brother.

Alma Bostelman

Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999

Deshler resident Alma (Koch) Bostelman, 88, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, in Hebron.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler with the Rev. Phillip Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ahrendts Funeral Home in Deshler and prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Bostelman was born Nov. 1, 1910, to Otto and Louise (Inderlied) Koch in DeWitt. On Nov. 6, 1935, she married August Bostelman. He died Aug. 26, 1963.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors are two daughters, Ila Jean Barry of Dallas and Marilyn Genzmer of Deshler; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Memorials may be given to the family's choice.

Charles H. Consbruck

Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999

Former Adams County resident, Charles Henry Consbruck, 90, of Marion, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Services were Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Garden View Funeral Home of Waterloo was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Consbruck was born Dec. 19, 1908, to Jacob and Clara (Bohr) Consbruck in Adams County. On Feb. 21, 1938, he married Marcella L. Trausch in Assumption. He retired from Peterman and Haes in Waterloo after 18 years. On Oct. 22, 1987, his wife died.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Survivors are two daughters, Mary L. Conry of Marion, Iowa, and Dianna Higgins of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Rose Moore of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be given to the family.
