James Lorenzini, 54
BILOXI, Miss. - James Mitchell Lorenzini passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at the Veterans' Hospital at Biloxi, following a long struggle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 12, 1951, at Denver, Colo. He attended high school at Alliance and graduated with the Class of 1969.

Jim was active in Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was a Naval Medic assigned to a Marine Division in Vietnam.

There will be a VA memorial service at Biloxi, where he will be interred in the Biloxi Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.

Raymond Stites, 69
NASHVILE, Ark. - Raymond Ray Stites, 69, peacefully passed away on Monday, Oct. 31, at Nashville Nursing and Rehab following a short battle with cancer.

Raymond was born April 18, 1936, at Picher Oklahoma, the son of Lewis and Emmy (Lafferty) Stites.

He enlisted in the Navy in 1955, where he served his country until his honorable discharge in 1957. He spent many years at Alliance and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

As per his wishes, his remains were cremated and a memorial service will be at a later date at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

A memorial has been established to the Raymond Ray Stites Memorial Fund, 6221 Dodge Rd., Hemingford, NE 69348.

Glenda Zickefoose, 65
HYANNIS - Glenda Kay Powles Zickefoose, 65, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born Aug. 8, 1940 at Alliance, to Glen E. and Ioma T. (Knuth) Powles. She attended school in Bingham until 1956 when the school was closed. She attended Hyannis High School her senior year and graduated in 1957. She then attended Chadron State College, graduating with a Teacher's Certificate, and taught at the Bingham Elementary School for two years.

On Oct. 4, 1958, she was married to Jackie "Zick" DeWayne Zickefoose at Bingham, and they made their home in the Hyannis area working for the Lowe Cattle Company for 25 years. They then leased the Scott place in May of 1982, prior to leasing the Copsey-Brittan Ranch in 1988, both ranches south of Bingham. The couple moved to their current residence at Hyannis in June of 2003.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Bingham Lutheran Church, with Rev. Lloyd Lenz and Pastor Andy Safarik officiating.

Burial will be in the Bingham Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Bingham Lutheran Church, Bingham Women's Fellowship, or to the Grant County Rescue Service. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Blaylock, 83
ALLIANCE - Myrtle Blaylock, 83, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

Myrtle May (King) Blaylock was born south of Gordon on May 7, 1922, to Lee and Elsie (Calame) King.

She resided most of her life in the Ashby area. After graduating from Ashby High School in 1941, Myrtle attended Chadron State College and received her two-year teaching certificate. She taught for one year at the Ferguson-Becker School north of Ashby.

She was married to Charles Blaylock on May 16, 1943, at Ashby. Myrtle was a loving wife, mother of eight children.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Ashby Congregational United Church of Christ, with Pastors Fay Ann Blaylock and Bill DeLisle officiating.

Burial will be in the Hyannis Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer Association of the Great Plains, 5601 S. 27th Street, Suite 201, Lincoln, NE 68512; Ashby Congregational United Church of Christ; or to the Good Samaritan Village.

Kathleen Polen, 91
ALLIANCE - Kathleen M. Polen, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Highland Park Care Center.

She was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Galesburg, Ill., to Charles and Ivy (Montgomery) Bainter.

She was married to Anton Larson of Galesburg, and later divorced. She then married C.E. "Gene" Williamson and after his passing, married Harry G. Polen of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Kay enjoyed several cruises, and made trips to Las Vegas and Reno, as well as many other trips around the United States to visit family and friends.

At her request, there will be cremation and a private family service. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Bashford, 52
PORSMOUTH, Ohio - Nancy Louise Perry Bashford, 52, formerly of Alliance passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Southern Ohio Medical Center at Portsmouth.

Nancy was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Alliance. A caregiver by nature as well as profession, Nancy was loyal to her family, and treasured by all who knew her.

She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Nancy was a 1971 Portsmouth West High School graduate and she enjoyed doing ceramics.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, with Rev. David Young officiating and interment in McKendree Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with proceeds going to a cause to be determined by the family at a later date.

Paul Lucas, 90
Paul Lucas, 90, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1915 at Mason City, to Myron and Katherine (Hauck) Lucas. Paul lived in Kimball County for 17 years, Mountain Grove, Mo., for five years, and came to Alliance in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Navy for two years.

On March 27, 1946, he married Margaret Louise Cadwalader. Paul was a 34-year veteran of the C.B. & Q. Railroad and Burlington Northern working as a conductor and brakeman when he retired.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Griger officiating.

Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church Elevator Fund or to Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

Laura M. Roberts, 96
BROADUS, Mont. - Laura M. Roberts, 96, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Powder River Manor at Broadus.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Powder River Congregational Church at Broadus.

Florence Sulzbach, 82
NEWELL, S.D. - Florence Christine Sulzbach, 82, died Tuesday Jan. 31, 2006, at the Sturgis Community Long Term Care Center.

Florence was born July 29, 1923 at Chamberlain, S.D., to Ed and Mayme (Krebs) Spring. She moved to Alliance as a child and graduated from St. Agnes Academy.

She was married to Richard Sulzbach at Alliance, on June 22, 1947. The couple moved to Vale in 1961 and farmed until retiring in 1999 when they moved to Newell.

A memorial has been established. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Sturgis.

Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel at Sturgis and an hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Emma Kittelmann, 105
ALLIANCE - Emma Kittelmann, 105, died Monday, January 30, 2006, at Highland Park Care Center.

She was born April 1, 1900, to James and Barbara Krejci on a Sheridan County Homestead.

She was married to Reinold Kittelmann on April 30, 1922.

Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home, 101 W. 4th St., Lusk, Wyo.

Memorials may be given in care of the family, B2 Meadows, Alliance, NE 69301.

Robert Messersmith, 86
ALLIANCE - Robert Ray Messersmith, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1919, in the Alliance home of his parents, Frank E. and Luva (Roberts) Messersmith, at 504 Missouri Ave.

His family then moved to Antioch where his father was the Superintendent of Schools until the summer of 1923. At that time the family moved to the ranch 15 miles north of Antioch, or 22 miles northeast of Alliance.

Robert attended grade school at Sheridan County District 106 and graduated from Alliance High School with the Class of 1936. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, was a member of the Farm House Fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science.

On Jan. 6, 1945, Robert married Emily Bauer of rural Alliance. They settled on the old Farrow Homestead northwest of the F.E. Messersmith ranch, where they raised registered Hereford cattle, in partnership with his father and brothers. They also raised registered Arabian horses.

He was a past member of the National Junior Stockgrowers Association, a charter member and past president of the Nebraska Junior Stockgrowers Association, and was instrumental in establishing the North Dakota Junior Stockgrowers Association.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Griger officiating.

Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, or to the Alliance Senior Nutrition Center.
