Emma J. Sinclair, 78
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Emma Jean (Koch) Sinclair, 78, formerly of Alliance, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Morris, Minn.

There will be a private family service and memorials are preferred to the Christian Children's Fund.

Richard P. Cassel, 66
NORTH PLATTE - Richard P. Cassel, 66, passed away Friday, march 31, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

Richard was born July 16, 1939, at Cheney, to Perry and Fern (Corzine) Cassel, and grew up in the Lincoln area.

He married Nancy Thomas of Alliance on Feb. 7, 1959. To this union, three sons and one daughter were born. Richard and his wife moved a number of times and made many friends throughout the years.

He retired in 2004, from the motel they owned at Holyoke, Colo., and settled at North Platte. He liked to travel and fish with his buddies until he was stopped by cancer. He fought a hard fight for nine months.

His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 621 W. Phillips.

Pauline M. Ritter, 89
ALLIANCE - Pauline M. Ritter, 89, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.

She was born May 18, 1916, at Alliance to Charles and Anna (Richards) Fredrick.

On Dec. 25, 1937, she was united in marriage to Clarence H. Ritter. Pauline was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and for many years was an avid golfer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Norma Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Box Butte General Hospital.

Morris L. Roebuck, 79
ALLIANCE - Morris Leroy Roebuck, 79, died Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Box Butte General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Morris was born on Feb. 5, 1927, at Alliance, to Jacob E. and Ester (Koenig) Roebuck.

He served in the Army during World War II, spending most of his two tours in the Aleutian Islands. He spoke often of his time on the Aleutian Islands where he was under the Headquarters Special Orders detachment as a demolition engineer and chaplain's assistant. Morris lived most of his life in the Alliance, Bridgeport, and Scottsbluff areas as a self-employed sales and repairman.

He loved rock hunting, fishing, camping, antiquing, and spending time with his family and friends. He married the love of his life, Eva E. Schultz, on Sep. 23, 1988.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Rowe officiating.

Burial with military rites will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or in care of the family.

Alice M. Winter, 93
BINGHAM - Alice Margaret Winter, 93, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at the home of her granddaughter at Bingham.

She was born March 14, 1912, at Creighton, to Herman and Catherine (Davids) Tiepel. She grew up in western Nebraska on a farm and ranch.

Alice graduated as the Valedictorian for Gordon High School and was a charter member and secretary of the high school's National Honor Society. She then graduated from Chadron State College and taught primary grades at Hay Springs in the early 1930's.

Alice moved to California in the late 1930's and was an inspector for Army airplane parts. She moved her parents to California due to the depression and provided them a home. She then worked for Aeroquip Corporation/Aircraft Division at Burbank, Calif.

She worked there for 25 years and lost all her retirement due to company liquidation. She then worked in accounting at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. until she retired.

There will be a private family memorial service. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Curtis, 76
ALLIANCE - Robert Lloyd Curtis, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006.

Robert was born Jan. 17, 1930, at Hemingford, to Lloyd and Irma Curtis. Robert ranched and farmed in the Hemingford area and was also active in the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1973 and 1974 served as Box Butte County weed superintendent. He served on the Weed Board for a period leading up to 1995. Robert cleaned seed wheat for area farmers and soon become known as the "old seed cleaner".

Robert was a member of American Legion Post No. 9.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, at the Hemingford Congregational Church, with Pastor Jim West officiating.

Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association.

Jake Erickson, 72
ALLIANCE - Jake H. Erickson, 72, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born July 23, 1933, at Nekoma, N.D., to Jacob and Agnes (Novacek) Erickson.

He married Marie J. Nelson on June 13, 1964, in Minnesota. Jake began working for the Sioux Line Railroad at Nekoma in 1952, as a Telegrapher in the communications department.

In 1956 he began with the C.B. & Q. Railroad. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. During this time he worked in the communications department in the basement of the White House.

Following his discharge he returned to Burlington Northern Railroad continuing in the communication department and transferred to Alliance in 1971.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jim Heithoff officiating.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 2 at the church. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, American Cancer Society or to the American Red Cross.

Edna Rasmussen, 88
HEMINGFORD - Edna M. Rasmussen, 88, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at the Hemingford Community Care Center.

She was born Oct. 29, 1917, at Lewellen, to Oliver and Alta (Templin) Smith.

She graduated from high school at Lisco, and attended Chadron State College obtaining her teaching certificate in 1934.

She taught in a number of rural schools systems in the local area. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Chadron State College in 1969.

Funeral services will beat 10 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at the United Methodist Church at Hemingford, with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating.

Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Richard A. Lewis, 74
ALLIANCE - Richard A. "Dick" Lewis, 74, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.

Richard was born April 8, 1932, at Gordon, to Arthur and Neva (Seveland) Lewis. He married Irene E. Schwaderer on June 29, 1952, at Alliance.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and then returned to Alliance where he worked as an auto mechanic at the A.H. Jones Motor Company, and as a service technician at Nebraska Typewriter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the United Methodist Church, with Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Alliance Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
