Oral E. Mayne, 86
SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. - Oral E. Mayne, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2006.
He was born at Creston, Iowa, on Feb. 26, 1920. He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980 after 39 years.
His hobbies included golf, bowling and woodworking.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West.
Evelyn E. Noon, 87
SALEM, Ore. - Evelyn Ellen Noon of Dallas, Ore., died April 4, 2006, in Salem.
She was born June 10, 1918, at Beaver Crossing, Neb., to Clarence and Susan Belle Long.
She was a long time resident of Hemingford and moved to Dallas, Ore., in 1981. Evelyn married Andy Noon in Bridgeport on June 22, 1939.
A Time of Remembrance will be held at the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, April 14.
Her final resting place will be at the Hemingford Cemetery where graveside services will be held in August.

Harriett Schwindt, 81
ALLIANCE - Harriett A. "Tug" Schwindt, 81, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1925, at Fort Collins, Colo., to Fred and Maybelle (Keill) Archer.
She married David Schwindt on May 4, 1947, at Alliance.
Cremation has taken place and private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Carnegie Arts Center. Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Marjorie E. Wells, 95
ARDMORE, Okla. - Marjorie E. Wells, 95, died April 7, 2006, at Ardmore, Okla.
She was born Feb. 6, 1911, to Clyde A. and Mina Mendenhall at their ranch in Sioux County, Neb.
She was united in marriage to Howard C. Wells on May 29, 1937, in Hot Springs, S.D. Four children were born to this union, Connie, Beth, Duane and Myrna.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hemingford.
Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers and grandsons Terry Nowlan and Jay Carlson serving as honorary pallbearers.

Elaine Ainslie, 83
HEMINGFORD - Elaine Doris Ainslie, 83, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born May 21, 1922, the daughter of Peter and Annie Christoffersen, at the family home 18 miles south of Hay Springs.
In 1939, at the age of 17, she eloped to Alliance, where she was marriedto Dan I. Ainslie. They lived for a while with Dan's parents north of Hay Springs until they moved to the Christoffersen place. In 1940 their only son Leon was born.
They continued to work their farm until 1970 when they sold their farm. They worked as farm laborers, living on the Nissen, Gibson and Andreasen places until 1988.
They then moved to Rainbow Acres outside of Alliance where they lived their retiring years until 2003 when they moved into Alliance. Dan passed away on May 19, 2003, shortly after their move into Alliance.
Elaine has lived in the Hemingford Community Care Center for the past two years.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the Bates-Gould Chapel at Alliance, with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating.
Burial will be in the Hay Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Richard P. Cassel, 66
NORTH PLATTE - Richard P. Cassel, 66, passed away Friday, march 31, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
Richard was born July 16, 1939, at Cheney, to Perry and Fern (Corzine) Cassel, and grew up in the Lincoln area.
He married Nancy Thomas of Alliance on Feb. 7, 1959. To this union, three sons and one daughter were born. Richard and his wife moved a number of times and made many friends throughout the years.
He retired in 2004, from the motel they owned at Holyoke, Colo., and settled at North Platte. He liked to travel and fish with his buddies until he was stopped by cancer. He fought a hard fight for nine months.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 621 W. Phillips.

Pauline M. Ritter, 89
ALLIANCE - Pauline M. Ritter, 89, died Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born May 18, 1916, at Alliance to Charles and Anna (Richards) Fredrick.
On Dec. 25, 1937, she was united in marriage to Clarence H. Ritter. Pauline was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and for many years was an avid golfer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Norma Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Box Butte General Hospital.

Morris L. Roebuck, 79
ALLIANCE - Morris Leroy Roebuck, 79, died Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Box Butte General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Morris was born on Feb. 5, 1927, at Alliance, to Jacob E. and Ester (Koenig) Roebuck.
He served in the Army during World War II, spending most of his two tours in the Aleutian Islands. He spoke often of his time on the Aleutian Islands where he was under the Headquarters Special Orders detachment as a demolition engineer and chaplain's assistant. Morris lived most of his life in the Alliance, Bridgeport, and Scottsbluff areas as a self-employed sales and repairman.
He loved rock hunting, fishing, camping, antiquing, and spending time with his family and friends. He married the love of his life, Eva E. Schultz, on Sep. 23, 1988.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Rowe officiating.
Burial with military rites will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice or in care of the family.

Gladys L. Fink, 95
ALLIANCE - Gladys L. Fink, 95, died Friday, April 21, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born Aug. 22, 1910, at Greeley, Colo., the oldest of twelve children to John and Grace (Cheeney) Whetstone. Gladys lived for many years at Scottsbluff where she raised her family and worked as a substitute rural mail carrier.
She then moved back to Greeley, Colo., and cared for many people while working at the Bennell Home. She moved to Alliance in 1979.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the Alliance Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Health Care Center or to the United Methodist Church.

Harry C. Nelson, 87
ALLIANCE - Harry C. Nelson, 87, was called home by his Lord on Friday, April 21, 2006.
He was born July 21, 1918, at Wood Lake, to Mary Ethel (Butterfield) and Robert Nelson. Harry left home at 16 and went to work for Gilbaugh Brothers Store and Lumber Yard at Bingham.
On Oct. 28, 1937, he married Ardath Thayer who lived north of Ashby. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943 and 1944. Harry worked for L.B. Murphy Co., at Alliance and Chadron. While at Chadron, be became the owner of the Blaine Hotel.
After three years, he moved back to Alliance where he became a partner in Brittan Insurance Agency, where he worked until he retired in 1979.
In keeping with his wishes, Harry was cremated and will be buried in the Alliance Cemetery with no ceremony or requested memorials.
