Wendall Adams, M.D., 90
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Wendall William Adams, M.D., 90, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Arizona Heart Hospital.
He was born May 15, 1915, to William Henry and Sarah Jane (Shaw) Adams at Hastings. Dr. Adams graduated from high school at Grant, in 1932, from Hastings College in 1936, and from Northwestern University Medical School in 1940.
He was married to Helene Burton Starr from 1939 until her death in 1985. He served in the Navy Medical Corps as a Lieutenant, j.g., from 1944 to 1946.
He practiced obstetrics and gynecology at Cleveland, Ohio, and was on the staff at St. Luke's and University Hospitals at Cleveland for 41 years. He was an active member of The Church of The Master in Cleveland where he was a soloist in the choir. He was a member of numerous medical associations and a past President of the Cleveland Society of OB/GYN.
He married Lenla (Fletcher) Wiseman at Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 12, 1986. After his retirement in 1987, he was a part-year resident of both Alliance, Neb., and Phoenix, and became an avid golfer.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, April 15 at Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale, Arizona.
There will be a memorial service at Grant in August, with interment in Grand Fairview Cemetery.
Robert Wilmott, 103
POWELL, Wyo. - Robert Edmund Wilmott, 103, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the Powell Valley Care Center.
He was born Feb. 18, 1903, at Devils Lake, N.D., to Robert J. and Rosella (Seward) Wilmott. He was raised on the farm.
He married Evelyn Vanderlin at Devils Lake on Nov. 27, 1929.
He worked for Fairmont Creamery and was later transferred to Alliance. He worked for the Alliance School System for many years until his retirement.
He and his wife moved to Powell in June of 1991 to the Rocky Mountain Manor.
Upon the death of his wife in October of 1993, he moved into the Powell Valley Care Center.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 24, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church at Powell, with Fr. Pete Johnson officiating.
Thompson Funeral Home of Powell is in charge of arrangements.
Ruth B. Hack, 80
HEMINGFORD - Ruth B. Hack, 80, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at Hemingford Community Care Center.
She was born March 11, 1926, at Alliance to Frank and Elizabeth (Duhon) Glassmeyer.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Box Butte County working for many years as a bookkeeper for the John Deere Dealership at Hemingford, Case Dealership at Alliance and in other financial businesses at Alliance.
She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, R.S.V.P. and A.A.R.P.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Hemingford, with Pastor Wayne Hayward officiating.
Burial will be in the Hemingford Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association, Prairie Haven Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Stanley Darveau, 87
ALLIANCE - Stanley Darveau, 87, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at Box Butte General Hospital.
Stan was born July 13, 1918, at Rulo, to Charles A. and Pearl S. (Johnson) Darveau.
He married Fern D. Hashman on March 30, 1940, at Alliance. She preceded him in death.
On Sep. 17, 1983, he married Darlene (Hand) Gericke at North Platte. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Eagles, the Elks, the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association, and was a past member of the Hemingford COOP Elevator Board of Directors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. James Heithoff officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the church.
Memorials may be given to St. Agnes Academy Foundation or to the Nebraska Boys Ranch.

Joel Andrews, 79
MINATARE - Joel Andrews, 79, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006.
Joel was born in Scottsbluff County, on April 10, 1927, to Florence and Hershel Andrews. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1945.
He married Corinne Wigren on June 28, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1987. In 1963, Joel and his brother started Andrews Livestock in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. Joel lived west of Alliance, and in 1972 moved to Torrington, Wyo.
In 1988, Joel married Aldean Starr. They moved to the Scottsbluff area where Joel began Bovidar Laboratories. Joel was blessed to have Aldean's children and grandchildren join his family.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3102 Ave. D, Scottsbluff, with a reception following.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20 at Crown Hill Cemetery, 29th and Wadsworth, Wheat Ridge, Colo.
Memorial contributions in Joel's memory may be made to the Leukemia Cancer Foundation.
John W. Vogel, 84
PARKER, Ariz. - John W. "Jack" Vogel, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006.
A potluck memorial service will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Alliance City Park Shelter House.
Jack L. Coupens, 71
DANA POINT, Calif. - Jack L. Coupens, 71, was born into eternal life Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Dana Point. Jack fought a very fierce 2 year battle with esophageal cancer which later spread to his lungs.
Jack was born April 25, 1934, at Alliance, to Earl and Alice (Garrett) Coupens, the younger of two sons. His brother Don preceded him in death three months ago.
Jack grew up in Alliance and graduated from AHS in 1952, he participated in all sports and was Co-Captain of the football team his senior year.
Jack attended the University of Nebraska and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1953, serving in Korea, he was extremely proud of serving his Country.
Catholic Mass was celebrated at the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Burial with military rites was at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at San Diego, Calif.
Memorials may be given to Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund or Serra Chapel Conservation Project.

Dorothy J. Mason, 72
COVINA, Calif. - Dorothy J. Mason, 72, died April 8, 2006, in Rowland C.O.N.V. Hospital.
Dorothy Jean Fraedrich was born Jan. 13, 1934, at Alliance, to Robert F. and Ruth (Sherwood) Fraedrich. Both preceded her in death.
She was married to Joseph H. Mason, who preceded her in death. She had lived at Covina, Fontana and Baldwin Park, Calif., and had worked for Pharmaseal Hospital Supplies at Irwindale, Calif., until her retirement.
She loved flowers of all kinds, birds and cats. Her favorite color was purple. She loved to play bingo with her daughters at the senior center.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary at Loma Linda, Calif.
James E. Evans, 82
ASHBY - James E. Evans, 82, died Monday, April 10, 2006, at Grand Island.
He was born Sept. 11, 1923, at Burlington, Colo., to Joseph and Anna (Day) Evans. He attended school at Mullen, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Oct. 18, 1947, he married Elizabeth "Cedia" Crouse.
Jim spent most of his adult life in the sandhills of Nebraska, working on several ranches and spent many years as a commercial hay contractor.
Jim and Cedia also raised racing greyhounds.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, at the Ashby Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Ashby Cemetery Fund.
