Donald Tincher 1948-2002

Donald Tincher, 54, Potter, died Thursday, Oct. 10 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. His funeral will be Monday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney with Pastor Doug Birky officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery.
Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to the Sidney Evangelical Free Church, Camp Rock at Redington, Neb. and the Potter Historical Foundation (Potter Sundry).
Don was born Jan. 18, 1948 in Fayetteville, Ark., the son of Clifford and Mary Gladys (Hunton) Tincher. At the age of 16, he realized his need of a savior and put his faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Don graduated from Greenland High School in Greenland, Ark. in 1966. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971, during which time he was aboard the USS Forrestall in the Mediterranean Sea for six months.
Don married Marian Meyer of Sidney on July 24, 1971 at the Dix Bible Church in Dix. To this union two daughters were born, Brenda and Sharon. He was a faithful and loving husband of 31 years.
Don worked on a construction crew building houses in Denver, Colo. in 1971 and 1972. In 1973, the couple moved to Broken Arrow, Okla. where Don buried telephone cable. They then moved to Potter in the fall of 1979 and helped Bennie Herboldsheimer build his house.
Don became employed with the Rural Electric Company, now High West Energy, Inc. of Pine Bluffs, Wyo. in 1980, working at the Potter outpost. He was a lineman for the company for 22 years.
Just before Don was diagnosed with cancer, he went on a mission trip to Matamoras, Mexico to assist in building a church. He faithfully used his carpentry skills to construct communion tables and pulpits for several churches. He also did carpentry work in the Potter area.
Don will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his carpentry work and his special harmonica music.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Tincher of Potter; daughters, Brenda Tincher of Kearney and Sharon Tincher of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother, Jim and wife Betty Tincher of Sand Springs, Okla.; sisters, Mary Lou and husband Marty Arpin of El Paso, Texas, Lois and husband Bill Blair of Prairie Grove, Ark. and Viola and husband David McHenry of Westfolk, Ark. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Wanda Meyers.

Harold G. Struve 1926-2002

Harold G. Struve, 75, Commerce City, Colo., died Wednesday, Oct. 9. His funeral will be Monday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Community Church in Peetz, Colo. with Rev. Beverly Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Peetz Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling.
Memorials are to the American Heart Association.
Harold Struve was born Dec. 9, 1926 in Peetz, Colo., the son of Hans and Anna (Westphalen) Struve. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy in WWII and was discharged at the end of the war. He farmed on the family farm for several years in Peetz.
Harold moved to Denver and worked as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He spent the summer months on Angoon Island, Alaska supervising the water plant and did all the carpentry work and helping on the fishing boats. Harold enjoyed his summers and his employees, Dick and Denise Powers.
Survivors include his sisters, Delores “Dee” Steinbrecher of Scottsbluff and Marjorie Stephans of Ft. Scott, Kan.; sister-in-law Lois Struve of Bonanza, Okla. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Arthur Struve and sisters, Geraldine Barber and Arlene Adams.

Harvey E. Ferrier 1950-2002

Harvey E. Ferrier, 52, a Sidney resident died at his home in Sidney on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Sidney with Rev. Richard Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with military graveside honors preformed by American Legion Post #17, DAV Chapter #40 and VFW Post #610. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until noon. Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans.
Harvey Elmer Ferrier was born on June 6, 1950 in Colorado Springs, Colo. the son of Harley and Edith (Ward) Ferrier. While growing up his family lived in Germany, Missouri, Alaska and Georgia. While in school he was involved in football and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1970-1971. He worked in the construction business for many years. He enjoyed working with greenhouse plants, fishing, animal watching and woodworking.
His father, one son and daughter, two grandfathers and grandmothers, two aunts and one uncle preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Edith of Potter; three brothers, Steven and Kenneth of Morrison, Colo. and Ron of Sidney; one sister, Dianne of Potter; two aunts, Lois of Broomfield, Colo. and Monte of Seymore, Ind.; three nieces and four nephews.
Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lillian C. Messing 1911-2002

Lillian C. Messing, 91, a longtime Sidney resident, died at Memorial Health Extended Care in Sidney on Monday, Oct. 6, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. A Christian wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at St. Patrick’s in Sidney. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
Lillian Caroline Messing was born on May 19, 1911 at Shelby, Neb. the daughter of Adolph and Caroline (Koenig) Gabel. She was raised in Shelby and graduated from the Shelby schools. She then attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Omaha from 1930 to 1933. She was married to Conrad Messing on Oct. 17, 1935 at Shelby. They made their home in Shelby until moving to Cheyenne County to farm in December of 1942. Her parents, husband and two sisters preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Louise Messing of Lodgepole and Kenneth and Karen Messing of Allenstown, N.H.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Virgil Stoll 1944-2002

Virgil M. Stoll, 77, of Scott City, Kan., died Friday, Sept. 6, at Kindred Hospital in Denver.
He was born June 14, 1925, in Lodgepole, the son of Arthur Jacob and Amelia Johanna Miltner Stoll.
He was a resident of Scott City since 1959, moving from Modesto, Calif. He was a farmer and stockman.
Mr. Stoll was a member of the Anthem Masonic Lodge 284, the Scottish Rite, Scott County Shrine Club, the Scott County Investment Club, The Isis Shrine Club of Salina, the Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge Aerie 1404 of Garden City and the 12th Green Club of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He was also a World War II Navy veteran.
On Feb. 9, 1944 he married Lorraine Armstrong in Chappell.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Janell Anderson of Scott City and Kimberly Sands of Denver; one brother, Marv Stoll of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sisters Florence Elliot and Bonnie Sutton of Sidney; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The funeral was held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire officiating. Burial was at the Scott County Cemetery.

Phillip J. Smith

Phillip J. Smith, 91, Gering, died Friday, Oct. 4 at Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering surrounded by his family. His funeral was Monday at the Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Rowe officiating. Interment followed in the Mitchell City Cemetery.
Phillip was born in Aurora, Neb., the son of Phillip T. and Eva D. (Thompson) Smith. He spent much of his youth in Scottsbluff.
In 1933, Phillip married Eleanor F. Rose of Havelock. They spent 30 years in Maryland while Phillip was employed by the federal government as an engineer and buildings manager in Washington, D.C. The couple then retired to Mitchell in 1971, and moved to Northfield Villa in 1988. The couple were inseparable for almost 62 years until Eleanor’s death.
He was a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and served on the Board of Directors of Northfield Villa, Inc. for many years.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard H. Smith; wife, Eleanor and one great-granddaughter, Casey Hutsell.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Franklin Holmead of Sidney and Margaret and Michael Boska of Plattsmouth, Neb.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces and special friend, Peggy Bixler.

Alma Irene Krumm 1905-2002

Alma Irene Krumm, 97, Greeley, Colo., died on October 1, 2002, at Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit in Greeley, Colo.
Visitation is from 4 to 8:00 p.m. today, at Adamson Memorial Downtown Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Bonell Chapel in Greeley. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Colorado Lutheran High School, c/o Adamson Memorial Downtown Chapel, 827 5th Street, Greeley, CO, 80631.
Alma was born on February 28, 1905, in Crete, Neb., to Andrew and Maria (Grasz) Limbeck. She was reared and educated in that region. On September 1, 1929 in Cheyenne, Wyo. she was married to Henry August Krumm. After their marriage, they lived in Sidney, until 1936, when they moved to North Platte. In 1961, they moved to Greeley.
She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in infancy and remained a lifelong member. Alma was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Greeley. She was a church organist, Sunday School teacher, and choir member, in her early years. After moving to Greeley, she served as chairperson of the Boys Cradle Roll, president of the Friendship Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church, and co-chairperson of the Trinity Bell Tower
Committee. The Bell Tower was dedicated in 1986. She was also a member of Bonell Auxiliary. She was a telephone operator for Mountain Bell Telephone Co., a volunteer at the hospital in North Platte, and a volunteer at Kenton Manor Nursing Home in Greeley for seven years. She loved sewing and needlework, making scores of afghans. She was also an avid gardener.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Robert Frerichs of Greeley, Ardis and Lou Krafft of Frankenmuth, Mich., and Lyla and Dr. John Buuck of Milwaukee, Wis.; ten grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Adamson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty M. Jolliff 1906-2002

Betty M. Jolliff, 96, a lifelong Sidney resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Memorial Health Center Extended Care. A Christian Wake service will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the St. Patrick’s Church in Sidney. Her funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. also at the St. Patrick’s Church with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from noon to 5 p.m. Memorials are to the St. Patrick’s Church.
Elizabeth (Betty) Margaret Jolliff was born Aug. 30, 1906 in Sidney, the daughter of Ernest D. and Gertrude (Sanders) Worden. She was raised here, attending her first years of grade school at Sidney Public Schools. Betty then attended St. Patrick’s School and excelled in dramatics and singing. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1925.
On Nov. 8, 1926 Betty married Clarence Jolliff in Sidney.
She was a faithful member of the St. Patrick’s Church and Altar Society, and the oldest living graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting and music.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Dec. 1, 1972.
Survivors include her dear friend, Marietta Leypoldt, adopted grandmother to Randy and Nyla Hobson and their children, Trevor, Dane and Brittany; Bruce Leypoldt and son, Chris and Myron and Gayland Leypoldt.

Roy Bauer 1926-2002

Roy Bauer, 76, Sidney, died, at Beverly Healthcare in Sidney on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Rev. Bradley Heinecke officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
Roy Bauer was born on May 23, 1926 to John Sr. and Mary (Hamburg) Bauer on a farm in Scottsbluff. He attended the Scottsbluff schools and during his eighth grade year he was the champion speller of Scottsbluff County. On August 26, 1944 he was married to Lora Lee Read in Sidney, to this union two children were born, Kenneth and Bonnie. He worked on the Sidney Police Dept. for 32 years and was police chief for the last 13 years of his service. While on the department he served one term as president of the police association. He was appointed by Governor Exxon to the Original Jail and Standard Board for the state of Nebraska. He was an interpreter for the Cheyenne County Courts, the Sidney Police Dept and the Nebraska State Patrol. He was also an instructor for hunter’s safety, and coached little league baseball and served on the Sidney Volunteer Fire Dept. After retiring in 1980 he served on the Sidney City Council for one term and was chairman of the civil service board and was the civil defense director for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Bonnie; two sisters, Edna and Dorothy; one brother, John; and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Adams, Ray Smith and Jack Betzold.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Lee of Sidney; one son, Kenneth and wife, Sondra of Maryland; one son-in-law, Leslie Sweet of Sidney; two sisters, Gladys Adams of Sidney and Florine and husband, Henry Elias also of Sidney; one brother Victor and wife Dorothy of Mitchell, Neb.; one sister-in-law, Mary Bauer of Sidney; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many cousins.
