Wilferd J. Seevers 1923 - 2002

Wilferd J. Seevers, 78 of Seward, Neb., died Aug. 4, 2002.
Services will be held Aug. 7 at 10 a.m., at the St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Plainview, Neb. Military graveside services will be provided by the Plainview American Legion Post 148. Volske Mortuary in Seward is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born October 30, 1923 in Naper, Neb. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1942 and was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the United States Army. Wilfred was a retired painter and a member of Seward VFW Post 4755.
He is survived by three brothers and their wives: Herbert and Lorraine Seevers of Sacramento, Calif., John and Arlene Seevers of Seward, Gary and Thelma Seevers of Seward; sisters Verna and Don Lingwall of Seward and Ruth and Gerald Gerler of Seward. He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Ada (Wesche) Seevers; brother Arnold; and sister Fern Seevers.

Joseph A. Wagner

Joseph A. Wagner, 74, Colorado Springs, Colo., died Friday July 19, 2002. Mr Wagner was a Colorado Springs resident for 41 years. He had lived in the Bayard and Sunflower Community for 22 years and had lived in Sidney for 11 years and was co-owner of the Lone Pine Court Motel.
Mr. Wagner had served in the U.S. Army during Korea and earned 2 bronze service stars.
He is survived by his brothers Arnold L. Wagner of Gering and Vern C. Wagner of Golden, Colo.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 at Circle Drive Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Serving the family is Colorado Springs Mortuary and Cremation Service, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Carol I. Gentry 1923-2002

Carol I. Gentry, 78, of Kimball died early Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball with Rev. Tom Jacobsen officiating. Cremation has been held. Private family inurnment services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball or to The Lutheran Hour.
Carol Ivan Gentry was born Oct. 8, 1923 at Rulo, Neb., the son of Clarence and Rose (Danlicker) Gentry. He moved to Western Nebraska in 1939. On June 25,1944 he was married to Hazel Sophie Brauer in Sidney where they lived until 1950. Since 1950 they have resided in Kimball. He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife Hazel of Kimball; his son Ron of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jon Fleischer of Aurora, Colo.; two granddaughters; one great granddaughter; sisters, Ethel Lietzke and Jessie Vonderschmidt of Falls City, Neb., Lydia Strough of McPherson, Kan. and Loretta Bachman of Bella Vista, Ark.
Gehrig & Son Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of the arrangements.

Geraldine “Gerry” Fisher 1914-2002

Geraldine “Gerry” Fisher, 87, of Grand Island, Neb., died August 1, 2002 at the Lakeview Nursing/Rehab Center of Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m with a 9:45 a.m. Family Prayer Service at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Reverend Martin Schmidt, the Reverend Ronald Benson, and the Reverend Robert Harms officiating.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Bruning Lutheran Cemetery at Bruning, Neb.
Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Geraldine “Gerry” Margaretha Fisher was born October 6, 1914, to John and Ada (Wilhelms) Edzards at Bruning. When she was one year old, her parents moved to Sidney. She attended parochial, county and city school, graduating from the Sidney High School. She was united in marriage to John Killham in North Platte on April 27, 1941. The couple lived in Sidney where she worked for Cheyenne County Assessors and County Treasurers offices. Her son John Michael Killham was born in Sidney on January 27, 1942. She then worked for the U.S. Government at the Sioux Ordnance Depot at Sidney.
Mr. Killham was killed in World War II, in Germany, April 5, 1945.
She was united marriage to S.C. Chuck Fisher on June 28, 1947, in Sidney. Their son, Charles Scoff was born on May 2, 1952. The Fishers transferred to Grand Island, in November 1965. Mr. Fisher activated the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, after moving to Grand Island. Gerry worked for the Quarter Horse Association of Nebraska, serving as secretary, treasurer and editor. She was a Life Member of the Association. Gerry was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Lutheran Church.
Suvivors include her husband, S.C. “Chuck” Fisher, Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Deanna Fisher, Maywood, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Julie Fisher, Grand Island; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, and a baby brother.

Mary J. Schadegg 1944-2002

Mary J. Schadegg, 58, a former resident of Sidney, died in Panorama City, California on Saturday, July 13, 2002.
Cremation has taken place in California and Mass of Christian Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 5 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, at St. Patrick’s. Memorials may be given to either St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or MHC Hospice.
Mary Jo Schadegg was born in Lincoln on January 7, 1944 the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Egging) Schadegg. She attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy. On March 24, 1967 she enlisted in the US Navy and served in Maryland and California. She was honorably discharged on August 2, 1968.
She then attended Ryokan College in Los Angeles, Calif. and received her B.A. and Masters Degree in counseling and psychology and graduated as the valedictorian of her class in 1985. She was administrative and psychological director at Esteem, an innovative program specializing in eating disorders. She also served on the board of directors of ABC Action Center hotline also specializing in eating disorders.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1990.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Schadegg of Sidney; one brother, Jerry Schadegg of Casper, Wyo.; special extended family, Jeanie Warken, James, Dan and David Hackler, Mary Price, Beth Mais, Julie Robinson and Susan Vanlaningham all from eastern Nebraska, one niece and one nephew and many cousins.
Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marthena W. Kahl 1903-2002

Marthena W. Kahl, 99, died Thursday, July 25 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Her funeral was held Monday at the Christ Episcopal Church in Sidney with Father Ed Newberry officiating. Burial followed in the Kimball Cemetery.
Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Christ Episcopal Church.
Marthena W. Kahl was born March 5, 1903 in Palisade, Neb., the daughter of Elle Q. and Nellie (Bodeman) Wynant.
She married Fred T. Kahl July 9, 1930 in Papillion, Neb. After several moves due to Fred’s work with the FBI, the couple settled in Sidney in 1970 when Fred retired. He passed away Jan. 26, 1976.
Marthena was a career women. She was a Registered Nurse for more than 50 years, receiving her training in Omaha. Marthena worked at numerous hospitals as Fred’s job required relocation often. She worked at the Roche Hospital, Taylor Hospital, Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Dalton and the Cheyenne County Memorial Hospital.
Marthena was one of the original nurses when Memorial Health Center opened on Memorial Day of 1955. She thought she was still practicing nursing during the nine years she lived at MHC Extended Care, as she tried doctoring herself and others who would seek her opinion.
Survivors include her nieces, Bonnie Jean Dumler and Donna Ruth Wheeler, both of Laramie, Wyo., Leula Wynant of Reno, Nev. and Ruby C. Wynant of San Diego, Calif. and several great nieces and nephews.
Marthena was not able to have children of her own throughout her life but with her strong faith she created her own family. The last chapter of her life consisted of the families of Mary Martin and Clem Schumacher, all of Sidney.
Marthena was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and four nephews.

R.M. Green 1922-2002

R.M. “Mike” Green, 80, of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away July 11 at Memorial Medical Center. He is survived by his wife Felice Green of the family home, and his daughters; Mary Read, Jean Conway, Linda Schilling and Shawn Taylor; sons Thomas Green, Nicholas Green, Christopher Green, Daniel Green and Timothy Green; and one brother D.P. Green.
Memorial services were held July 13, at the University United Methodist Church. Arrangements were with Graham Mortuary, 555 West Amador in Las Cruces.

Kathryn “Kay” Perkins 1912-2002

Kay Perkins, 89, Oklahoma City, Okla. and a former Sidney resident, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at her home. Her funeral will be Saturday, July 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney with Pastor Doug Birky officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call today from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kathryn Martha Perkins was born Oct. 21, 1912 in Gothenburg, Neb., the daughter of John Fredrick and Matilda Cecilia (Greene) Dubois. She moved with her family to Padroni, Colo. where she grew up.
On June 16, 1940, Kay was united in marriage to Robert Lee Perkins. The couple lived in several different places before settling in Sidney.
Following her husband’s death in 1986, Kay continued to live in Sidney before moving to Oklahoma City in May of 2000.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Shanks of Edmond, Okla.; sister, Violet Bergsma of Rolly, N.C.; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bobby Perkins and grandson, Scott Shanks.

Allan Lessman 1949-2002

Allan Lessman, 52, Sidney, died Tuesday morning, July 16, 2002 at his home in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 19, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Edgar Schambach officiating. Committal services will take place at the Lessman Ranch west of Sidney following the services. Cremation will follow with inurnment at a later date.
Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society, the Memorial Health Center Hospice, the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association or the P.R.C.A.-Justin Cowboy Crisis Center
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.

Allan Richard Lessman, the son of James and Edna (Fultz) Lessman was born November 16, 1949 at Fergus Falls, Minn. He moved with his family to Lamberton, Minn. as a child and graduated from Lamberton High School in 1967. He went to work on a harvest crew before being drafted and serving in Vietnam with the U.S. Army Green Beret Special Forces from 1968 to 1971. After his discharge he moved to Albert Lee, Minn., where he attended Austin Junior College.
On February 10, 1973 he was united in marriage to Glenda Allison at Glenville, Minn. They resided in Glenville before moving to McAllen, Texas and then Winter Park, Colo. while he was involved in the commercial grain building business. They moved to Sidney in 1982 where he worked for Cabela’s as a distribution manager and later as facilities manager, involved in designing and building their retail stores.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Lessman of Sidney; one daughter, Joyelle and her husband Brad Kennedy of Sidney; two sons, Josh Lessman and John Lessman both of Sidney; his mother, Edna Lessman of Walnut Grove, Minn.; one sister, Joan Iverson of Lamberton, Minn.; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father.
