Ray Andersen, 93
NORTHPORT - Ray Ola Andersen, 93, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Morrill County Community Hospital at Bridgeport.
Ray was born May 23, 1913, at Winside, to William and Anna (Brogren) Andersen.
He graduated from Winside High School in 1931. He served as a heavy equipment mechanic in the U.S. Army from March 1942 to January 1946.
He married Aileen Alice Brehding on Sept. 21, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Winside. He worked as a mechanic all his life, and with the help of his wife and daughters, built the family home at Northport.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church at Broadwater, The American Legion Post 29, and V.F.W. Post 7786.
Visitation hours are Monday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Jollilffe Funeral Home at Bridgeport. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Messiah Lutheran Church at Broadwater, with Ann Bairn, P.M.A., officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in the Oregon Trail Cemetery at Bridgeport. Memorials have been established to Messiah Lutheran Church, The American Legion Post 29, Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department or Rescue Unit, Morrill County Hospital Foundation or Prairie Haven Hospice.

Fred Knaub, 80
ALLIANCE - Fred "Fritz" Knaub, 80, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
He was born May 26, 1926, at Minatare, to Mike and Lydia (Reitz) Knaub.
During his childhood his family lived at Minatare and then he lived at Alliance.
On April 16, 1959, he married Carmen Lliteras at Cheyenne, Wyo. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 1945 until Dec. 1946.
He then worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Koester Farms, Dobson Dodge for 22 years and at Dayco for 10 years prior to retiring in 1989. Following his retirement they moved to Hemingford.
He was a member of the American Legion Post. No. 9, V.F.W. Post No. 1517, Fraternal Order Eagles and the A.A.R.P.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at the Bates-Gould Chapel, with Norma Jensen officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent in care of the family at P.O. Box 427, Hemingford, NE 69348-0427.

Gary Nicholson, 50
ALLIANCE - Gary B. Nicholson, 50, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Box Butte General Hospital, after an eight-month battle with cancer.
He was born March 26, 1956, at Alliance to John and Ellen (Wooke) Nicholson.
Gary graduated from Alliance High School in 1974. While in high school he was on the wrestling team. He married Cindy A. Lien on August 26, 1995, at Alliance.
Gary was a 30-year employee working as a carman for Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad.
His hobbies included woodworking and outdoor activities of fishing, hunting and camping.
He was a member of the Eagles Club.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Doug Griger officiating.
Memorials may be sent in care of the family, 1228 Box Butte Ave., Alliance, NE 69301.

Anna Dobrovolny, 77
ALLIANCE - Anna M. Dobrovolny, 77, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born Sept. 13, 1928, at Williams, Ariz., to Frank and Celestine (Fritsch) Payne.
On May 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Leo P. Dobrovolny at Omaha. Anna worked as a registered nurse at Clarkson Hospital and at Methodist Hospital at Omaha.
Following her retirement she and her husband moved to Minnesota where she lived until moving to Alliance in 1992.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. James Heithoff officiating.
Memorials may be given to Habitat for Humanity or to the High Plains Veterans Cemetery.

Akira Nagaki, 87
GERING - Akira "Skeets" Nagaki, 87, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at the Northfield Villa Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 27, 1918, at Scottsbluff.
He graduated from Minatare High School. He worked on a farm with his father and brothers after graduation. He volunteered for the military in 1942, and became part of the highly-decorated 442nd Regimental Combat Team in the European Campaign during World War II.
After the war he returned to farming with his family. On Jan. 26, 1947, he married Fujiko Jane Hirokawa.
They moved to Alliance, in 1947 to continue farming. Akira retired from active farming in 1997. He was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and The American Legion Post #7.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at Alliance.
His cremains will be placed next to those of his wife, Jane, in the church Columbarium. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Martina M. Ogg, 74
LONGMONT, Colo. - Martina M. Ogg, 74, died May 28, 200,6 at Applewood Living Center.
She was born June 24, 1931, at Murray, to Martin and Mae (Barker) Sporer.
She graduated from Plattsmouth High School at Plattsmouth, and received her teaching certificate from Peru State College at Peru. She was married to Karl D. Ogg on Aug. 14, 1949, at Murray.
She moved to Longmont from Alliance, in September 1998. Martina taught country school for 2 1/2 years and was a homemaker and mother.
She owned and operated the Sands Motel at Scottsbluff, with her husband and sold Mary Kay cosmetics. She also was a certified activity director for a nursing home at Alliance. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church, Christian Women's Club and Gideon's International, and was a patrol leader for cub scouts.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tom Beaman of Grace Evangelical Free Church officiating. A reception will follow services at the chapel.
Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Free Church or to Gideon's International in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street Longmont, CO 80501.

Norma J. Trout, 73
ALLIANCE - Norma Jean Trout, 73, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
She was born June 15, 1932, at Valley City, Utah, to Hugh and Zella (Eulell) Burdick.
She was mostly raised in Roan Creek near De Beque, Colo. She then moved to Utah and later back to Colorado where she settled at Collbran, until her children were through high school.
She then moved to Rupert, Idaho, for approximately 20 years.
Eventually she moved to Alliance with her son and daughter-in-law.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the De Beque High School at De Beque, Colo., with Pastor Rick Morgan officiating.
Memorials may be given to the Good Samaritan Health Care Center's Activity Department, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Nicolas Gasseling, 15
ALLIANCE - Nicolas Reid Gasseling, 15, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident north of Alliance.
The son of Joseph C. and Cheri (Appleyard) Gasseling, he was born Nov. 28, 1990, in Alliance.
Nic was completing his freshman year at Alliance High School. He was an avid sports enthusiast enjoying fishing and playing football, baseball and wresting. He was also active in FFA.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father James Heithoff officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26 at the church.
The family will designate a memorial at a later date. Memorials may be sent in care of the family at 907 Laramie Avenue, Alliance, NE 69301.
