William D. Markle, Jr

Capt. William D. Markle, Jr. USCG (Ret.), 70, of Portsmouth, Va. passed away Friday, May 24, 2002 at the home of his daughter, Cathy Carlson, in Sidney following a long battle with cancer. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Loving Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kiwanis Club of Merrimac, PO Box 6297, Portsmouth, VA, 23703-0297 or to Hospice of Sidney, 645 Osage St., Sidney, NE 69162. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
After graduating from high school, Bill attended the United States Coast Guard Academy, where he graduated in 1953. He also attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he received a degree in engineering. After serving his country for 30 years, he retired from the Coast Guard in 1983 at the rank of Captain, and settled in Portsmouth, Va. with his wife, Joyce.
Upon retirement, he became active in several community service organizations. He served on the board of the Portsmouth YMCA and became very involved with the Kiwanis of Merrimac in Portsmouth where in 1999 he received the George H. Hixon award for distinguished volunteer service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Joyce.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon McDonald of Irving, Texas, Susan Maile and husband David of Fort Myers, Fla. and Catharine Carlson and husband Randall of Sidney; one sister, Sarah E. Markle (Betsy) of Pennsville, N.J.; five grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.

George Lambrecht 1923-2002

George Lambrecht, 78, of Sterling, Colo. died Wednesday May 22. Visitation was held at the Tennant Funeral Home. Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Blanco officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery.
George Lambrecht was born November 25, 1923 in Ovid, Colo. to John and Magdalene (Hochnadel) Lambrecht. He attended St. Anthony School from 1930-1935 then moved to Padroni and continued his education there. He married Clara Korbe on September 30, 1946 and later Irene Korbe on June 21, 1980.
George worked for Plains Motor Company from 1946 to 1950, then worked for Holloways from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. He enjoyed his family, polka dancing, working on cars and watching the Broncos and Rockies games.
Survivors include his wife Irene Lambrecht; children Jerry Lambrecht and wife Sue of Sterling, Vern Lambrecht and wife Joyce of Sterling, Duane Lambrecht and wife Sandy of Sterling, Richard Lambrecht and wife Sally of Sidney, Karen Borcher and husband Lyle of Sidney; step-children Donna Boothe of Windsor, Colo., Connie Evans and husband J.R. of Elk City, Okla., Coleen Liebert and husband Tim of Sterling, Jeannie Pomeroy of Sterling; brothers Albert, Ed and Francis of Sterling, John of Atwood, Colo., Ray of Shreveport, La.; sisters Rose Shank and Florence Gertner of Sterling and 28 grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clara in 1978, brother Joe in 2002, sister Mary Ann and step-son Dennis Korbe.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Anthony School Furnace Fund or Hospice of the Plains.

Nora Robinson 1909-2002

Nora Robinson, 92 of Sidney, died Monday, May 20, 2002 at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 25 at the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with the Rev. Bob Dahlgren officiating. There will be no visitation, cremation has been held. Inurnment will be held at a later date in San Francisco.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Nora’s name to the Memorial Health Center or A.R.C. (Association for Retarded Citizens.)
Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Nora was born to Mae and Elmer Ludwig on July 13, 1909 in Muncie, Ind. On March 31, 1934, she married Ned Robinson in Muncie. They came to Sidney in 1955. Ned and his brother built the Plains Oil Mills, later it became Haas Hop Products.
Nora was active in the Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer for Sidney Memorial Hospital and A.R.C. (Association for Retarded Citizens).
Survivors include her husband, Ned of Sidney; one daughter, Carol Ochlan of San Francisco; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including James Robinson of Sidney.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lois Carvin and Elma Brown.

Glenn W. Twarling 1932-2002

Glenn W. Twarling, 70 of Sidney, and formerly of Dalton passed away early Sunday morning, May 19, 2002 at the Memorial Health Center in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 22 at the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with the Rev. Bob Dahlgren officiating. Burial will be in the Dalton Cemetery. Friends may stop at the funeral home today from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Glenn Twarling Memorial Fund in care of the Leyton Public Schools or to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Glenn Walter Twarling was born on March 2, 1932 at Stromsburg, Neb. to Walter and Elsie (Larson) Twarling. He was baptized and attended the Green’s Chapel Methodist Church. Glenn began his education in a country school and graduated from Stromsburg High School where he was active in all sports. On April 9, 1949, Glenn was united in marriage to Jean Thelander. They farmed near Stromsburg until moving to Dalton in 1950. He farmed and ranched, pumped oil wells and worked at Stramit Company. In 1978 he had heart surgery but was able to continue working until he suffered a stroke following another heart surgery in 1988. Glenn was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his grandchildren in all their sports and school activities.
Glenn joined the Dalton Presbyterian Church in 1951 where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He served on the Prairie View School Board and the Dalton School Board for several years. He was 4-H Leader, Boy Scout Leader and coached Pee Wee Baseball. He served on the Co-op Board, was a past member of the Dalton Fire Department, the Dalton Lion’s Club and was a member of the Sidney Elk’s Lodge. Glenn and Jean moved to Sidney in 1999.
Survivors include, his wife Jean of Sidney; three sons, Loren of Huntley, Ill., Dan and wife Bette of North Platte and Randy and wife Elizabeth of Dalton; one daughter, Connie Philippi and husband Jerry of Lincoln, five grandsons; eight granddaughters; one sister, Donna Marie Anderson and her husband Richard of Stromsburg, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents.

Linda Lee Allum-Hughes

Linda Lee Allum-Hughes, 48, of Potter, died Thursday, May 16 in Omaha. Services will be Monday, May 20 at 11 a.m. at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln with Rev. Mike McMurtry officiating.
Linda was an Avon Sales Manager and loved walks, archery and dancing.
She is survived by her husband, Rick, Potter; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Matt Davis, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; son, Wally Hughes, Lincoln; one grandchild; brothers, Walter Dondlinger, Lincoln, Richard Dondlinger and Albert Bahr, Juniata, Neb.; sisters Lona Herling, Ceresco, Neb., and Mary Hazelbrink, Fairbury, Neb.; step-children Nichole Allum, Ogallala and Michelle Allum, Kearney and parents Clifford and Verneta Bahr.

Logusta Dutcher 1918-2002

Hugoton, Kan.—Logusta Dutcher, 84, Hugoton, died Thursday, April 11 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. Memorial services were held at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton with Rev. Nel Holmes officiating. Paul’s Funeral Home in Hugoton was in charge of arrangements.
Logusta Dutcher was born Sept. 24, 1918 in Dalton, the daughter of Harvey L. and Orrie (Flynt) Heizer. She graduated from nursing school in Hastings, Neb. and started a nursing program in Waco, Texas.
Logusta married Robert C. Dutcher Jan. 4, 1942 in Dallas, Texas.
She moved to Hugoton in 1950. She worked as a registered nurse at the Hugoton Clinic, and for Dr. Frederick and Dr. LaNeve for many years.
Logusta was a first-grade home-room grandmother, and often worked as a school nurse. The children called her “Grandma Gussie.”
Her hobbies included china painting, reading, gardening, traveling and visiting with family.
Survivors include one son, Robert M. Dutcher and wife Lupe of Grants, N.M., four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Charlotte L. Tomich 1911-2002

Charlotte Luella (Perry) Tomich, 90, of Kimball, died on Saturday, May 11, at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball. Rev. Robert Dahlgren will officiate. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.. If friends wish, memorials may be made to the Kimball Presbyterian Church, the Kimball County Manor, or Kimball Senior Center.
Charlotte was born July 9, 1911 in Kimball a daughter of Clarence and Bessie (Brittian) Perry. She graduated from Kimball County High School and was a lifelong resident of the county. She married Albert Tomich on January 16, 1941 in Kimball. They farmed until Albert’s death on March 6, 1957. Charlotte worked with the school lunch program for several years. She and her daughter also owned and operated a beauty shop in her home.
Charlotte was a member of the Kimball Presbyterian Church, the Royal Neighbors Lodge, the VFW Auxiliary, the Lioness Club, and the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Hargreaves and her husband Joe of Sidney. Five grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters Laura Reichman, Lucille Nightingale, and Verla Stahl, and five brothers, Charlie, Leonard, Floyd, Bob, and Little Albert Perry.

Tom Alan Null 1967-2002

Tom Alan Null, 34, of Seattle, Wash., died May 7, at the Harborview Hospital in Seattle. Memorial services will be held Monday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Peterson officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the National Diabetes Association.
Tom was born July 2, 1967 in Scottsbluff to Gary and Teri (Amen) Null. He attended grade school in Uniontown, Pa. The family returned to Scottsbluff, where he completed his schooling. While in high school he played football and Legion baseball. His favorite sport was fishing. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Enterprise during the Persian Gulf Conflict and Iran. He then returned to Scottsbluff where he worked as a meat cutter, then for the railroad. He married Maryann Bolger, March 11, 1994. They had a son, Thomas John.
He is survived by his son, father Gary Null and his wife Becky of Scottsbluff; sister Andrea Null of Brownville, Pa.; grandparents Harold Null of Uniontown, Pa., and Harvey and Virginia Amen of Scottsbluff; aunts and uncles, Dave and Regina Null of Perryopolis, Pa., Jon and Lynnette Amen of Hayward, Calif., Rosemary and Greg Kanne of Keizer, Ore.; cousins Brian and Emily Null of Pa., Chris and Kathy Wagner of Salem, Ore., Kristin and Tony Garcia and Analisa of Brentwood, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his mother Teri Null, grandmother Ruth Null and his aunt Rhoda Null.

Sheryl L. (Blue) Craghead 1948-2002

Sheryl L. (Blue) Craghead, 53, of North Platte passed away May 9, in Lincoln. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in Maxwell, Neb. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family’s choice.
Sheryl was born October 9, 1948 to Earl and Elsie (Wilder) Blue in Ovid, Colo. She married Earl Craghead on February 25, 1966. To this union four children were born.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law; Patti and Roger Brackett, Jodi Craghead and partner Lori Post, and Missy Craghead; son and daughter-in-law; Shane and Brenda Craghead; six grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Henrietta) Blue, Duane (Geri) Blue and Neil (Joyce) Blue; sisters, Dianne (Duane) Namuth, Jeanine (LeRoy) Batt and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and one brother Keith Blue preceded her in death.

Geraldine L. Schwartz 1933-2002

Geraldine L. Schwartz, 69, of Columbus, Neb. died on Saturday, May 11 at Beverly Health Care-Columbus. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 15 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Weisbecker officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the McKown Funeral Home in Columbus, Neb.
Geraldine was born March 10, 1933 in Inavale, Neb. to Herbert and Ellen (Mattison) Lambrecht. She grew up in Red Cloud and graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1951.
On September 23, 1951 she was united in marriage to Clayton Schwartz in Red Cloud. They lived in Potter for a short time before moving to Columbus in 1954. Geraldine raised five children and enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den Mother, working with crafts, cross-stitch, gardening, fishing and being involved in church activities. She returned to school where she earned her LPN degree in 1967 from Platte College-Columbus. Geraldine worked in the Behlen Community Hospital for a couple of years before going to work for Dr. Clinton Heine as his nurse. She worked for Dr. Heine for over 30 years before retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.
Geraldine is survived by her husband, Clayton; sons, Craig and wife Pam of Ft. Collins, Colo., Scott and wife Raquel of Corona, Calif., Kent and wife Erin of Columbus and Cory of Omaha; daughter Valerie and husband Dennis Vacha of Platte Center, Neb.; sister Norma Fledler of Duncan, Neb.; and brothers Edgar and wife Donna, and Laverne and wife Melvena Lambrecht both of Red Cloud, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother and an infant daughter Christie Schwartz.
