Ray Yetter 1925-2002

Ray Yetter, 97 of the Kimball and Dix area passed away Friday March 22, 2002 at the Memorial Health Center Extended Care in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 28 at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Pastor Mary Frohs of the First Lutheran Church in Potter officiating. Burial will be in the Dix Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Raymond Ray Yetter, the son of Raymond Alonzo Lee and Rachel Louise (Bennett) Yetter, was born on August 13, 1904 at Wauneta, Neb. He attended the Wauneta Schools. When not in school, Ray worked on the family farm and played in the family band, performing on Sunday afternoons. Ray played the banjo and harmonica, his father played the violin and his aunt Carrie played the piano. He later moved with his family to Melbeta and Oshkosh.
On January 31, 1925, Ray was united in marriage to Bessie Baird at Julesburg, Colo. They moved from the farm by Lisco to Oshkosh and then to Bushnell in 1946. They then settled in the Dix area in 1948. In 1980 Ray moved to Potter to be close to his son Howard. The Potter flood of 1997 forced Ray’s move to Kimball. Ray worked as a government employee and farmer. His passion was his banjo music. Even after retiring, he traveled with his son’s family band. Their music could be heard all over Wyoming and Nebraska until the early morning hours. The sweet melody of his banjo will remain silent until the circle is complete once again in the sky. His final days were filled with many blessings, including watching his great-great-granddaughter, Shauntae vacuum his carpets.
Ray was the last of 14 children. His survivors include; daughters, Agnes Eisele and her husband Gerald and Cermel Haney of Boone, Colo.; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son Howard and his wife Elvera, daughter Violet VanHousen, son-in-law Ralph Haney, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and 13 brothers and sisters.

Twila Erickson

Twila Erickson, 96, Sidney and formerly of Potter, died Thursday, March 21 at Beverly Health Care in Sidney. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. in the Potter Cemetery. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established in care of the family.
Survivors include her sons, John and wife Nancy of Seminole, Fla. and Lee and wife Dorothy of Sparks, Nev.; niece, Vanda Philson of Sidney; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Brenda Wamsley 1961-2002

Brenda Wamsley, 40, Sidney, died Sunday, March 17 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Memorial services were Thursday, March 21 at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney. Inurnment was in the Chappell Cemetery. The Holechek Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Cremation was held.
Brenda Gay Wamsley was born April 5, 1961 in Chappell, the daughter of Gilbert D. and Janice Marie (Booth) Christensen. She grew up and attended school in Chappell before graduating from Lodgepole High School.
Brenda had numerous friends and family that she loved and laughed with. She made friends wherever she went.
She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Molly Ann Wamsley of Morgan Hill, Calif.; mother, Janice McGowan and husband Gerald of North Platte; brother, Donald Christensen and wife Nancy of Thornton, Colo.; three sisters, Debra Broeder and husband Donald of Scottsbluff, Sandra Bondegard and husband James of Lodgepole and Susan Glanz of Kimball; special friend, Ronald Jackson of Sidney; eight nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and father.

Hugh Corbett Perkins 1933-2002

Hugh Corbett Perkins, (Perk), 68, passed away on March 16, at St. Mary’s Hospital after a long respiratory illness.
A memorial service for family and friends was held Tuesday, March 19, at Martin Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
Hugh C. Perkins was born on October 21, 1933, at Hay Springs, Neb. His parents were Ralph W. Perkins and Noral (Ray) Perkins.
He moved with his family from Hay Springs to Ordville, a housing complex on the Sioux Army Depot. Both parents were employed at Sioux, as was Hugh.
Hugh served honorably for two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married Anges Helfich in 1956. Four children were born into this union. Cecilia Mansfield (Mike), Quentin (Melinda), Doug (Annie), and James (Sandra). His world was filled with the peals of laughter and joy from ten grandchildren.
On October 5, 1988, he married Carmen V. Salazar in Alexandria, Va. After retirement Hugh and Carmen moved to Grand Junction where they have made their home for twelve years. Upon arrival in Grand Junction, they were asked, “Why Grand Junction?” to which Hugh replied “Why not?”
Hugh retired in 1990 after 37 years of service as a Management Analyst for the U.S. Army Material Command in Washington, D.C. There were many interests in Hugh’s life. He was a devoted father who loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed skiing, was a great bowler, a chess and cribbage challenger and loved playing cards. He enjoyed chalk paintings of still life and loved reading. His greatest skill was fishing and hunting.

Donna L. Haack 1929-2002

Donna L. Haack, 72, Dix, died Tuesday, March 19 at her home. Her funeral will be Thursday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at the Federated Churches United Methodist Church in Potter with Revs. Mary Frohs and Ronald Nuss-Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Dix Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Prairie Haven Hospice or to the Dix Community Improvement Fund.
Donna Haack was born July 16, 1929 in Kimball, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Peterson) Campbell. She was a life-long resident of the area, graduating from Dix High School in 1946. Donna also attended Barnes Business College in Denver, Colo.
She married Lloyd Haack on June 20, 1948 in Dix. The coupled started a farm south of Dix in 1949. Lloyd continued to farm there even after they moved to town in 1963.
Donna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dix, where she was active in teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She served on the church board and sang in the choir. Donna was also a member of the United Presbyterian Church Women, the Golden Girls Billiards League and a volunteer for the Dix Community Improvement group. She enjoyed bowling and golf.
Survivors include her husband Lloyd of Dix; daughters, LeAnn and husband Gary Bristow of Parker, Colo. and Carol and husband Cecil Smith of Kearney; sons, David and wife Susan Haack of Scottsbluff and Gary and wife Pam Haack of Dix; sisters, Evelyn Travis of Sidney and Maurine Lockwood of Kimball; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Robert Lowell McRea 1921-2002

Robert Lowell McRea, 80, Scottsbluff and formerly of Mitchell, died Monday, March 18 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. His funeral will be Thursday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with the Scottsbluff B.P.O.E. Lodge #1367 and Rev. Stephen Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery.
Friends may call at the mortuary today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and at the funeral.
A memorial has been established to the Elks Crippled Children Fund.
Robert Lowell McRea was born August 27, 1921 in Peetz, Colo., the son of Robert E. and Delena (Lunny) McRea. He grew up here, graduating from Peetz High School in 1939. Robert later attended Colorado State University before serving his country with the United States Air Force during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He was stationed in England with the 390th Bomb Group as an aircraft mechanic.
Robert married Truth Riley on Aug. 7, 1949 in Sidney. He was a wheat farmer in Peetz and also worked at the Sioux Ordinance Plant in Sidney for 15 years. Robert then moved to the rural Mitchell area in 1965, where he farmed and fed cattle until his retirement in 1992.
He was a 50-year member of the American Legion, a charter member of the Sidney Elks Lodge and Past Exalted Ruler of the Lodge; played baseball for the Peetz town team; was an avid bowler and a strong supporter of Mitchell Legion baseball.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Truth McRea of Scottsbluff; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Pam McRea of Mitchell; sisters, LaVerne McRea of Denver, Colo. and Helen Briscoe of Medford, Ore. and two grandsons.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lloyd and Charles.

Shirley Ann Hunt 1957-2002

Shirley Hunt, 65, Oshkosh and formerly of Lorenzo, died Sunday, March 17 at the Garden County Hospital in Oshkosh. Her funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at the Oshkosh United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in the Oshkosh City Cemetery. Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will not be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley Hunt Memorial Fund.
Shirley Ann Hunt was born Sept. 20, 1936 in Sidney, the daughter of Bert and Katherine Amelia (Kurz) Walker. She attended school in Lorenzo and later attended Secretarial College in Denver, Colo. She began working as a secretary at the Sioux Army Depot.
On Sept. 22, 1957, Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Dean Hunt in Sidney. The couple lived for a short time in Sunol before moving to Oshkosh in 1959. Shirley managed the Shady Rest Motel for 30 years.
Her greatest joy was her family and she always had an open house, cooking or doing something for her family. Shirley loved watching her children and then her grandchildren in school activities and sports. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Allen Hunt and wife Nancy of Valentine, Neb., Teri Moss and husband Bill of Oshkosh and Tim Hunt and wife Kathy of Chandler, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Ivan; sister, Jean and daughter-in-law, Colleen.

Elizabeth Ann Hart 1910-2002

Elizabeth Hart, 91, Lodgepole, died Saturday, March 16 at Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney. Her funeral will be Wednesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Pastor Philip Found of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Lodgepole.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorials have been established to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Elizabeth Ann Hart was born March 29, 1910 in Briggsdale, Colo., the daughter of Henry and Barbara (Speaker) Deines. She received her education at the Sunnydale School in Colorado.
On Dec. 1, 1926, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Jacob G. Hart in Greeley, Colo. The couple moved numerous times through the years before settling in Sidney.
Elizabeth worked at the Sioux Army Deport for five years, but otherwise was a housewife. In 1965, she moved to Lodgepole.
Elizabeth was a very loving mother and enjoyed cooking for anyone that stopped to see her. She also enjoyed yard work, nurturing a meticulous yard.
In 1999, Elizabeth became a resident of MHC, Extended Care.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald J. and Joan Hart of Mesa, Ariz., John C. and Verna Hart of Aurora, Colo. and George H. and Lois Hart of Sidney; daughters and sons-in-laws, Betty J. Hurst of Sidney, Lee M. and John W. Bahr of Sidney, Marian J. and James Dotson of Lodgepole and Barbara L. and Carroll J. Gerber of Lodgepole; one sister, Freida Schriner of Denver, Colo.; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Howard Hurst; grandson, Kenneth Dotson; great-grandson, Paul Ernest; five brothers and four sisters.
