Doris Ruth (Bills) Kerker 1915-2002

Doris Kerker, 86, Lodgepole and formerly of Portland, Ore., died Tuesday, March 12 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Memorial services will be Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Lodgepole United Methodist Church with Rev. Lyle Schoen officiating. Inurnment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, north of Lodgepole. Holechek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation as cremation has been held.
Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ name to the Lodgepole United Methodist Church and choir.
Doris Ruth Kerker was born July 10, 1915 in a sod house north of Lodgepole, the daughter of C.O. and Ruth (Werhan) Bills. She moved to Lodgepole in May of 2001, residing in the Valley View Apartments. Doris dearly loved her few months in Lodgepole.
She enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful backyard flower garden when she lived in Oregon. Doris was very busy working in her church. She loved to eat out, play cards with friends, enjoyed the Bills family picnics and being included in family birthdays and get-togethers.
Survivors include one sister, Charlotte Wise of Portland, Ore.; brother, Roscoe Bills of Alliance; special friends, Dr. Joe and Jyoti Graffeo and sons of Portland; foster son, Al Shoup of Lamar, Colo.; dear friend, Anne Anderson of Lodgepole; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; brothers, Clarence and Roy Bills; and sisters, Hazel Huff and Helen Hernbloom.

Thelma Blackburn 1904-2002

Mitchell—Thelma Blackburn, 97, Mitchell, died Saturday, March 9 at Beverly Health Care Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell with Pastor Sheila Taylor and Rev. Robert Wigert officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 1 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials may be given to the Mitchell Methodist Church or the Mitchell Rescue Unit.
Thelma Blackburn was born Nov. 25, 1904 near Nashville, Tenn., the daughter of Mylous and Betty (Underhill) Lankford. The family moved to the Mitchell area in 1920, where Thelma resided most of her life.
She was united in marriage to Horace A. “Jeff” Blackburn on Dec. 24, 1927 in Arizona. The couple returned to the Mitchell area, living north of Mitchell for over 50 years.
Thelma was a member of the Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Cum-A-Gan Project Club and a past member of the Extension Council. She worked on various projects in the community and as a school board member for several years.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna White of Mitchell, Charlotte Lodes of Sidney and Delpha Stevens of Omaha; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jeff; son, Eugene; four brothers, Crutch, Jim, Brown and Tom; two granddaughters, Kathleen Ann Carlson and Sue White and one grandson, Jeffrey Douglas Carlson.

Delores I. Hajek 1929-2002

Delores I. Hajek, 72, a lifetime resident of Sidney, died at Memorial Health Center in Sidney on Thursday, March 7. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at St. Patrick’s in Sidney. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Memorials may be given to the MHC Hospice.
Delores Irene Hajek was born on May 5, 1929 in Colton, Neb., the daughter of Carl A. and Alta M. (Deaver) Loch. She was raised in the Sidney area and attended St. Patrick’s High School, graduating in 1947. She was married to Joseph P. Hajek in Sidney on June 25, 1947. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Altar Society and the VFW Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Kathy Hajek of Littleton, Colo. and Alan and Marcia Hajek of Sidney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gary Osborn and Cheryl and Ron Christensen both of Sidney; 3 sisters, Lorraine Hajek of Wykoff, Minn., JoAnn Glanz of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Phyllis Fehringer of American Falls, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Edithann Deaver 1946-2002

Edithann Deaver, 55, Scottsbluff, died at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff on Wednesday, March 5. Her funeral will be Monday, March 11 at 11 a.m. at the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church in Sidney with Rev. Bob Dahlgren officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Gehrig & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Monday until the service time. Memorials may be given to the family’s choice.
Edithann Deaver was born Oct. 29, 1946 in Lisco, Neb., the daughter of Darrell and Fern (Lindquist) Golden. She was raised and attended school in Ogallala and Sidney.
Edithann married Dean Deaver on March 14,1986 in Sterling, Colo.
While in Sidney, she worked as manager of the Eagles Club. Edithann lived in Sidney until June of 1991 at which time she moved to Scottsbluff.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, line dancing and spending time with family and friends. Edithann was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and was active in various bowling leagues for many years.
Survivors include her fiancé Ron Sutton of Scottsbluff; son, Thomas Pringle of Scottsbluff; daughters and son-in-law, Christal Pringle of Lincoln and Mickie and David Ewing of Scottsbluff; brother, Kenneth Golden of Lexington, Neb. and two grandchildren.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one uncle.

Calvin E. Bonser 1956-2002

Calvin E. Bonser, 45, Hermiston, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 20 at his home. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Feb. 25 at the Hermiston Cemetery. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.
Calvin E. Bonser was born Aug. 24, 1956 in Sidney, the son of Howard and Ruth (Mitchell) Bonser. The family moved to the Hermiston area in 1964. Calvin graduated from Hermiston High School in 1975 and then joined the U.S. Air Force. After his military service, Calvin returned to Hermiston, where he was employed as a handyman.
On Oct. 19, 1985, he married Denice Walker in Hermiston. They divorced in 2000.
Calvin was a past member of the Irrigon Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors, building things and flying.
Survivors include his sisters, Bonnie Smith and Vickie Bonser, both of Hermiston and Sharon Hinkley of Irrigon; brothers, Phillip of Hermiston and William of Granby, Colo.; stepdaughter, Deanna Walker and numerous other relatives.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents.

Jens Peter Jensen 1929-2002

Jens Peter Jensen, 73, Canon City, Colo., died Tuesday, March 5. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Holt Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Association of the Rockies, 1420 Ogden Street, Denver, CO 80218.
Jens Peter Jensen was born Jan. 25, 1929 in Sterling, Colo., the son of Jens Jensen and Laura (Larson) Jensen. He grew up on the family wheat farm in Peetz, where he helped with wheat crops. Jens later worked with heavy equipment. His last job was with G.E.C. Mineral Coal Mining, west of Florence.
Jens married Eva (Lance) Jensen on Nov. 12, 1967 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator until his health forced him into retirement. Jens was a native of Colorado until his health caused him to move to Georgia. Jens returned to Canon City a year ago.
Survivors include his wife, Eva of Canon City; his children, Shannon (Lynn) Shrewburg of Colorado Springs, Father Jay Jensen of Colorado Springs and Jill (George) Peterson of Fountain, Colo.; step-children, Juanita Willyard of Canon City, Shirley (John) Stewart of Mesa, Ariz., Ralph (Cindy) Mills of Canon City and Roger Jensen of Canon City; sisters, Lillian Call of Sidney and Elizabeth Jacobs of Las Vegas, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jens was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Helen and one sister, Anne Davis.

Dale J. H. Bivens 1938-2002

Dale J. H. Bivens, 63, Kimball, died Sunday, March 3 at his home. His funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kimball with Pastor Tom Jacobsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery. Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial gifts may be made in care of the family, to The Lutheran Hour or to the St. Jude Research Center.
Dale Joseph Henry Bivens was born Nov. 12, 1938 in Sedgwick, Colo., the son of Glen and Hilda (Laaker) Bivens. He attended school at South Divide through the 8th grade and graduated from Sidney High School.
Dale and Karen Ogley were married April 22, 1962 in Sterling, Colo. The couple moved to Kimball in 1963. He worked for KN Energy from May of 1964 until his retirement in 1995.
Dale was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and as a sponsor of the church youth group.
He enjoyed carpentry and yard work and did remodeling in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Kimball; son, Glen Bivens of Kimball; daughter, Anna and husband Allen Hansen of Kimball; brothers, Bill and wife Theresa Bivens of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Ed and wife Karen Bivens of Sidney; three sisters, Ileen Ogley of Sterling, Betty and husband Allan Wittig of Wayne, Neb. and Rose Ann and husband Jim Gilroy of Dalton; and two granddaughters.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and son, Joe Bivens in 1972.

Lester Bismark Runge 1920-2002

Lester Runge, 82, Sidney, died Friday, March 1 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. His funeral will be Wednesday, March 6 at 10 a.m. in the Church of Christ at 11th and Alvarado in Sidney with Pastor Mike Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #17, the VFW Post #610, DAV Chapter #40 and Detachment 3, 1074th Truck Co.
Memorials have been established to the Church of Christ or the Parkinson Association of the Rockies.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., today, at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Lester Bismark Runge was born Jan. 19, 1920 on a farm west of Sidney, the son of Bismark and Josephine (Sager) Runge. He was reared in Cheyenne County and attended school in Brownson.
Lester served in World War II at Fort Robinson, Neb. from 1942 to 1945. After his discharge from the service he farmed, first with his father and brother, Glen, and later with Glen.
On Oct. 16, 1966, Lester married Elinor Merrick. They made their home in Sidney.
Lester served with the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee for 27 years, earning a certificate of service from the Department of Agriculture. He also served 17 years on the Brownson School Board, as had his father before him.
Survivors include his wife, Elinor Runge of Sidney; sister, Bonnie Cizek of Denver, Colo.; brothers, Clifford and wife Phylis Runge of Sidney and Glen Runge of Sidney; brother-in-law, Bruce Merrick and wife Delores of Idaho and many devoted nieces and nephews.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
