Daryl Dean Fraass 1964-2004

Daryl Dean Fraass, age 39, of North Platte, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., CST, Wednesday, July 7, at Adams and Swanson Chapel with the Reverend Vincent Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney at 2:30 p.m., MST, with military honors graveside. Memorials may be made to the National SIDS Foundation or the donor’s choice. Visitation will be today from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and prior to service time at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
He was born August 25, 1964 to David and Marilyn Dress Fraass in Sidney. He was raised in Golden, Colo. and joined the Navy for a short time. He met and married Tammy Jo Carnes in Hordville, Neb. Together they had two children. He farmed near Central City for a number of years before moving to Denver to sell over-the-road trucks. In 1991 he met and married Annette Marie Garrett. Together they had two children. In 1993 they moved to Sutherland where he was a Rescue Captain on the Volunteer Fire Department. He continued working in the truck sales business at Schmode’s Incorporated in North Platte. He enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, ATV’s, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Crystal Fraass of York and Amber Fraass of North Platte; one son, Dawson of North Platte; his parents of Crook, Colo.; one sister, Cheryl (Myran) Davidson of Wheatridge, Colo.; two brothers, Rich and Scott (Bonnie) Fraass of Crook; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Brian; a brother, Carrol Fraass; and two nephews.

Shirley M. Ohnesorg 1919-2004

Shirley M. Ohnesorg, 84, Sidney, died at Memorial Health Center Extended Care Friday, July 2, 2004. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 7 in Omaha. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 14, at 7 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney with Pastor Doug Birky officiating.
Memorials have been established to the Sidney Evangelical Free Church and the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired in c/o Dr. Pearl Van Zandt, 4600 Valley Rd. Suite 100, Lincoln, NE 68510-4844.
Shirley was born Dec. 22, 1919 at her grandparents house in Bonesteel, S.D., the daughter of Clarence and Elizabeth (Fruits) Flisram. She grew up on a farm near Witten, S.D., attending school there.
Shirley moved to Omaha in the early 1940’s where she met John J. Ohnesorg. The couple were married Dec. 5, 1942 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Shirley tied hams at the Cudahy meat packing plant for 22 years until the late 1960s when she began working for Blue Cross-Blue Shield, retiring in 1982.
She enjoyed traveling until the increasing effects of macular degernation and age made it more difficult to do so.
In December 2002, Shirley moved to Sidney to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Gwen Ohnesorg.
Survivors include her son, Roger and wife Gwen Ohnesorg of Sidney; daughter, Kaylynn and husband Dio Perez of Omaha; sisters, Ella McGinn of Bellevue, Neb. and Darlene Flint of Georgia and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, Melvin, Jerome, John and Gordon Flisram.

William H. Tewell 1922-2004

William H. Tewell, 82, a former Sidney resident, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at Dove Health Care Center in Eau Claire, Wis. Memorial services were held in Eau Claire.
Evergreen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
William was born Feb. 22, 1922 to the late Nebraska District Judge James and Pauline (Wesner) Tewell.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy stationed in the South Pacific. He attended and graduated from Denver University and later from the University of Nebraska Law School. William was also a Rhodes Scholar from Queens College in Oxford, England with his specialty in Islamic law.
Until his retirement, William worked as a lawyer for Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He was a friend of Bill W. for 25 years.
William enjoyed weaving, sewing and being involved with the Hospice of the Upper Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Beryl of Horspath, England; son, Jeffrey Tewell of Eau Claire; daughter, Sara Mitchell of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sister, Suzanne T. Wagner of Lincoln; three grandchildren and one nephew.

Elmer C. Peterson 1925-2004

Elmer C. Peterson, 78, of Scottsbluff died on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Kimball Cemetery. Reverend Roger Gillming will officiate. No visitation is scheduled.
Cantrell Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Elmer was born on July 20, 1925 in Auburn, Neb. to Elford and Stella L. (Kelly) Peterson. Elmer graduated from Dix High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a warehouse dockworker for Ford Moving and Storage in Omaha. Elmer lived for a short while in Sidney and moved into the Mt. View Towers in Cheyenne. In 2001 Elmer moved into the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff.
Elmer is survived by his brother, James Peterson and his wife Barbara of Dodge City, Kan. and his sister, Frances Annabelle Peterson of Cheyenne.

Edna Ely 1916-2004

Edna Ely, 88 of Sidney, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at her home in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 12, in the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Dahlgren officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Light Memorial Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Edna M. Ely, the daughter of Emil and Emma (Rosener) Nightingale was born January 11, 1916 on a farm in Jefferson County, Neb. She moved with her family to a farm north of Colton in 1928 where she attended country school.
In 1935 she married Virgil Ely. They lived in Bridgeport, before moving to California where her husband worked in the shipyards during World War II. They moved back to the Sidney area in 1951 where she resided until her death.
Survivors include two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Nightingale of Sidney and Nila Ely of Topeka, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant brother, Lawrence, a brother Earl Nightingale and one sister, Esther Deaver.

Maryrose Linehan 1931-2004

Maryrose Cecilia (Nagle) Linehan passed away on July 10, with family members by her side. She was being treated at Maine Medical Center for sudden onset leukemia.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, July 14 at the Hobbs Funeral Home 230 Cottage Road South Portland. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15 at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church Cape Elizabeth.
Donations in Maryrose’s memory may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster Street Portland, Maine 04101 or to the St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, 8 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth, Maine 04107 or to the McAuley Residence, 91 State Street, Portland, Maine 04101
Despite many health challenges, Maryrose was dedicated throughout her life to being the best person she could be and to helping others, especially fellow diabetics and senior citizens.
Maryrose was born in Brocton, Mass. on November 4, 1931 to Anna Clare (Flynn) Nagle and Patrick Joseph Nagle. She was class president at Saint Patrick’s Catholic High School in Brocton and later studied at Boston University.
On April 1, 1951 Maryrose married John R. Linehan and soon after the couple moved to Florida where John served in the U.S. Air Force. On January 22, 1953 they became the proud parents of twin sons born in Melbourne, Fla. On September 26, 1956 the family was completed with the birth of a daughter in Brocton.
In 1978 the couple moved to Sidney where they made many lasting friendships and were active in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Maryrose worked for 17 years as an administrative secretary for the South Platte Natural Resource District and was an active member and president of the Cheyenne County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. In 1996 the couple retired to Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
Maryrose is survived by John, her husband of 53 years; son and daughter-in-law James E. and Karen Linehan of Bangor; son Patrick J. Linehan of Washington, D.C. and Brazila, Brazil; daughter Deborah Clare Linehan of Oxnard, California; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and only sister, Eleanor Gorman Millette.

Harold W. Mathews 1927-2004

Harold Warren Mathews, 76, of North Platte died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at GPRMC.
Christian Wake Services will be 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Adams & Swanson Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with the Rev. Zitek as celebrant. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, south of Maxwell with military honors graveside.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the church or the Union Pacific Railroad Historical Society. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. today and Sunday, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements. The family will be receiving friends at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. All times are Central Standard Time (CST).
Harold W. Mathews was born, August 14, 1927, to Charles B. and Margaret Treinen Mathews in Sidney. He attended St. Patricks Academy for 10 years and graduated from Sidney High School in 1945.
His long time railroad career began at age 16, in Sidney, as a call boy for Union Pacific. He spent his entire adult life connected in some way to railroading, including nine months as a train guard during his Army service in Europe during WWII. Upon his discharge, he continued with Union Pacific in Sidney, and a few other nearby areas. His job relocation brought him to North Platte in 1961. He retired in 1986 after 44 years with Union Pacific.
Harold was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, VFW and the Union Pacific Railroad Historical Society, where he served on the board of directors for 12 years. After his retirement, he became a member of the Union Pacific Steam Crew, and enjoyed many excursion trips behind “Steam Engine 3985” until ill health prevented it.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary C. Sanders of San Diego, Calif. and Margaret M. Arp of Fremont, Neb.; and one brother, Charles B. and Myra McGinney Mathews of Tyler, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel T. Mathews.

John Brooks

John Brooks, 34, Omaha, Neb., died Tuesday, July 20, 2004. His funeral will be Saturday, July 24 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha.
Bethany Funeral Home in La Vista, Neb. is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Friday, July 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are requested to the John Brooks Memorial Fund in c/o Centris Federal Credit Union, 343 North 114th Street, Omaha, NE 68154.
Survivors include his wife, Kameron of Omaha; children, Drake and Johnny Brooks and Natastia Carnes, all of Omaha; mother, Marsha Clark of Omaha; father, John M. Brooks of Owensboro, Kent.; sister, Charlotte Brooks of Omaha; grandparents, Emmett and Shirley Clark of Sidney; grandmother, Margaret Brooks of Owensboro; uncles and aunts, Dean and Brenda Daigger of St. Louis, Mo. and Ron and Cindy Payne of Sidney; father-in-law, Max Hooker of Grand Island, Neb.; mother-in-law, Linda Hooker of Omaha; brother-in-law, James Hooker and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Fred Brooks.

Connie J. Willis 1944-2004

Connie J. Willis, 59, of Sidney, died at Memorial Health Center in Sidney on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Gehrig Funeral Home in Sidney with Sister Marietta Spenner officiating. Burial will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.
Friends can call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given in Connie’s memory to MHC Home Health and Hospice in Sidney.
Connie Jo Willis was born in El Dorado, Kan. on February 3, 1944 the daughter of Clinton and Oma (Lewis) Smith. They lived in several towns in Kansas where her father managed oil field equipment businesses. They moved to Kimball in 1958 and she graduated from the Kimball High School in 1962. Connie moved to Sidney in 1964. She met Richard T. Willis and they were married in Sidney on Jan. 22, 1965. They made their home in Sidney where they raised their two daughters, Erika Yvonne and Catherine Ruth.
Connie was a homemaker for many years before going to work for the Sidney Public School System. After working for the schools for 13 years she retired and helped with her grandchildren, which were the light of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of Sidney; daughters and sons-in-law, Erika and James Harmon and Cathy and Rob Campbell all of Sidney; grandchildren, Ashley and Joshua Harmon and Jessica and Grant Campbell all of Sidney; one aunt, Hazel Robison of Kansas; two brother-in-laws, James Willis and wife Maxine of Washington and David Willis and wife Phyllis of Colorado; one sister-in-law, Dot Willis of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Sol Willis.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
