Jadean Merklin
1932-2004
Jadean Merklin, 72, Sidney, died Aug. 9, 2004 at Memorial Health Center in Sidney. Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney with Pastor Floyd Virgil of the Faith Within Church officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Atwood Cemetery in Atwood, Kan. at a later date.
Memorials have been established to the Dorwart Cancer Treatment Center.
Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the funeral home.
Jadean Merklin, the daughter of Claud and Edith (Smith) Gaines, was born Jan. 19, 1932 in McDonald, Kan.
She grew up in McDonald where she met and married Wilber Merklin.
They moved to Sidney where he worked at the Sioux Army Depot. They later divorced and she resided in Sidney until her death.
Survivors include her three sons, Gary and wife Ruth Merklin of Thornton, Colo., Danny Merklin of Commerce City, Colo. and Greg and wife Peggy Merklin of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Bonita and husband Jim Miles of Lodgepole, Susan and husband Kenneth Dickinson of Sidney and Jaynce and husband Andy Borges of Sidney; two sisters, Eunice Officer and Ratha Lea Locker both of McDonald; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Jadean was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Aletha and Patrick Merklin and two brother-in-laws, Curt Officer and Dale Locker.

Robert H. Michelman
1921-2004
Robert H. ‘Bob’ ‘Mike’ Michelman, 83, a longtime Lodgepole resident, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 at his home in Lodgepole. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chappell with Fr. Walter Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery in Lodgepole. A Christian Wake service will be held today at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Memorials are to the family’s choice.
Robert Henry Michelman was born June 23, 1921 in Lodgepole, the son of Herman and Lena Michelman. He attended Lodgepole Public Schools. Upon graduation he pursued a career in farming. On April 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Cecelia Treblik. To this union two children were born.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and everyone else’s children. This was reflected by his driving of the Lodgepole Public School buses for a number of years.
As a janitor of Lodgepole Public Schools, Bob always had a smile and a small joke for everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Cecelia of Lodgepole; his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Deb Michelman of Lodgepole; his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Rick Vogt of Chappell; grandchildren, Cori and Lori Michelman of Lodgepole, Kelly and Misty Michelman of Sunol, Curtis Michelman of Sunol, Nicole and Ben Hegel of Spearfish, S.D., Meradith and Justin Langley of Valdosta, Calif., Destiny and Jerad Misegadis of Chappell, Cortney Vogt and friend Justin Misegadis of Chadron, Neb.; one sister, Helen of Sidney and one brother, Arnold of Chappell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Berniece V. Hunter
Berniece V. Hunter, 83, Palo Alto, Calif. died Aug. 17, 2004 at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto.
Private services were held with burial in the Potter Cemetery.
Roller Hapgood & Tinney of Palo Alto was in charge of arrangements.
Berniece was born in Potter and was a long-time resident of Palo Alto.
She married Raymond Hunter and helped him run the S.O.S. Market and Ray’s Red & White here in town.
Berniece was a member of Eastern Star and active with Cub Scout Pack #48. She worked for local school districts in both Jordan and Cubberley.
Survivors include her two sons, Jay Hunter and Randy Hunter, both of Palo Alto; two sisters, Joy and husband George Hare and Shirley and husband Mal Minshall and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hunter in 1970.

Roland J. “Rollie” Westerhoff

1943-2004
Roland J. “Rollie” Westerhoff, 61, of Cobden, Ill. died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Marion, Ill. Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel in Murphysboro, Ill.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the music department of the Laguna Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach, CA 92671.
He was born March 19, 1943 west Dalton, the son of Ella E. Siefer Westerhoff Anderson of Carbondale, Ill. and the late Elmer L. Westerhoff.
Rollie was a retired sales representative in the industrial products industry and a Vietnam War Army Veteran. He was a member of the Laguna Presbyterian Church in Laguna Beach, Calif., a member of the church choir and handbell choir, and was also a member and past president of the Tustin California Lion’s Club.
Survivors include his mother, Ella E. Anderson of Carbondale; sister, Karen and husband Tom Hippensteel of Carbondale; one niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1963.

Mae Zalesky
1914-2004
Mae Zalesky, 89 of Phoenix, Arizona and a former Lodgepole resident died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Paradise Valley in Phoenix.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 4, in the Lodgepole United Methodist Church in Lodgepole, with the Rev. Harun Gatobu officiating.
Inurnment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery following the services.
Cremation was held in Arizona and there is no visitation at the funeral home.
Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Mae Josephine Zalesky was born September 24, 1914 at Osceola, Neb., the daughter of Walter Isadore and Mable Alice (Johnson) Hernbloom.
At the age of five Mae moved with her parents and six brothers to a farm north of Lodgepole.
When she was in the 10th grade she and her family moved to Lusk, Wyo., where she graduated from the Lusk High School in 1931.
Mae graduated from the California School of Beauty in Omaha, Neb. in 1936 and returned to Lodgepole to open “Mae’s Beauty Shop”.
She married Millard Merle Zalesky on March 19, 1938 in Lodgepole and they lived there for over 30 years. Millard preceded her in death on September 28, 1970.
In 1975 she moved to Apple Valley, Calif. near her daughter Patty, where she lived until 1988 when she moved to the Life Care Center of Paradise Valley in Phoenix, Ariz. near her daughter Bonnie.
May had the unique experience of being near all five of her grandchildren while they were growing up; two in Nebraska and then three in California.
Mae was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include her daughters: Bonnie Usher and husband Bob of Phoenix, Ariz. and Patty Yancey and husband Patric of Apple Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren: Laurie Ullmann of Scottsdale, Ariz., Stanley Brauer of Wray, Colo., Jeni Boulanger of Phelan, Calif., Amy Kurtz of Chatsworth, Calif. and John Robert Kurtz of Apple Valley, Calif. and six great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers: Wallace, Morris, Harold, Richard, Virgle and Kenneth.

W. Hollis Peratt
1914-2004
W. Hollis Peratt died Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Life Care Center of Elkhorn, Neb. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Elkhorn with graveside Service at 3 p.m at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Gladstone, Neb.
Reichmuth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hollis was born on June 15, 1914 in Hobart, Okla. to Lee and Bessie (Newcomer) Peratt. His family moved to Fairbury, Neb. in 1919 and it was here that Hollis grew up, attended grade school and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1932.
Hollis was baptized in 1926 at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury. As a young boy, Hollis enjoyed football, ice skating, hunting and fishing.
He was president of his High School class, the first of what would be many offices he would hold for various groups in which he held membership.
Hollis married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Bauer on June 23, 1935 and to this union four children were born: William, Mikell, Stephen and Suzanne.
The family moved often, living in various cities in Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. He retired in 1977 and went to work for IKO Notions for three years traveling out of North Platte, before retiring for good. They remained in North Platte for 22 years before moving to Elkhorn five years ago to be closer to family.
Hollis joined the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Laramie, Wyo. in 1943 and stayed active in church the rest of his life. Hollis enjoyed spectator sports, gardening and cooking but his passion was golf. He won many golf tournaments in the Sidney area and scored a hole-in-one on Aug. 30, 1986, at the age of 74 at the Willow Greens Golf Course in North Platte.
Hollis is remembered as a friendly, gregarious man who could converse with everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Elkhorn; sons and daughter-in-law, William and Judy of Arvada, Colo., and Stephen of Elkhorn; daughter, Sue Fornoff of Elkhorn; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister, daughter Mikell Peratt and son-in-law Glenn Fornoff.

Geri Wieser
Geri Wieser, a long-time Sidney resident died at her home in Sidney on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. A Christian wake service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. also at the church. A complete obituary appear when available.
Gehrig Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Margaret Bondegard
1927-2004
Mary Margaret Bondegard, 76, rural Lodgepole, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 at her home. A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chappell
with Father Walter Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Lodgepole. A Christian wake service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. also at the church.
Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Memorial Health Center Hospice.
Mary was born Oct. 3, 1927 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Raymond and Mary Ellen (Arns) Llewellyn. She received her elementary education in the Catholic schools in Houston and later went to Our Lady of the Lake Convent in San Antonio,
Texas. Mary later left the convent and returned home to help her mother in raising her younger siblings.
For 11 years, she worked for the Sears & Roebuck Company.
On Nov. 30, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Duane Charles Bondegard at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in
Houston. The couple moved to Nebraska to the farm of Duane’s parents where they resided and began farming, raising cattle, chickens, pigs, and sheep. They later adopted Scott and Jo Ann. Duane passed away on November 22, 2003, after 45 years of marriage.
Mary was a talented artist, writer, farm wife and a cook that loved all children. She was a member of the Altar Society, Sunshine Club, Legion Auxiliary and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son, Scott C. Bondegard and wife Francine of Green River, Wyo.; daughter, Jo Ann Burt and husband
Ray of Lodgepole; three brothers, Robert Llewellyn and wife Bertha Mae of Fort Worth, Texas, Charles Anthony Llewellyn
and wife Jeanie of Pearland, Texas and Thomas Llewellyn and wife Barbara of Magnolia, Texas; two sisters, Betty Segel and husband Jerry and Rose Hawes, all of Pearland, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Donna Mae Schlesselman of Sidney, Lorraine
Llewellyn of Pearland and Liz Llewellyn of Spring, Texas; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; one sister, Theresa May Llewellyn; three brothers, Raymond Jr., John and Lawrence Llewellyn and one nephew, Johnny.
