Jeanette A. Ahlm
1922-2004
Jeanette A. Ahlm, 81, a long-time Gurley resident, died Sunday Oct. 3, 2004 at Columbine Care Center West in Fort Collins, Colo.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 in the Grace Lutheran Church in Gurley with Pastor H. Eldin Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Dalton Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
Memorials can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church in Gurley or Hospice of Larimer County, 7604 Colland Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
Jeanette Anna Aurich was born Nov. 24, 1922 in Dalton, the daughter of Oscar and Annie (Dahlketter) Aurich.
On June 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Carl John Ahlm, the son of Sexton and Mayme (Jurgens) Ahlm of Gurley. They had three sons.
She worked as clerk in the Gurley Post Office and was appointed Postmaster on Feb. 2, 1979. She retired in May of 1987.
Jeanette was active in church and civic affairs and was known for her vast vegetable and flower gardens.
In 1992 she relocated to Parkwood Estates in Fort Collins.
Survivors include her three sons, Rodney and wife Brenda and their two children Christopher and Leslie of Gurley, Rollie and wife Kathy and their two children Wendy and Seth of Fort Collins and David of Glendale, Calif.; two brothers, Marvin and Lloyd, both of Dalton.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and one brother, Dick.

Elizabeth C. Paxton
1925-2004
Elizabeth Paxton, 79, Sidney, died Friday, Oct. 1 at Memorial Health Center.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6 in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Alan Davis officiating. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or graveside service.
Memorials may be given to the donors choice.
Elizabeth C. Paxton was born on July 29, 1925 in North Platte, Neb., the daughter of Clarence and Alfleda Webster. Beth graduated from North Platte High School in 1943 and later attended art school in Denver.
On June 24, 1949 Beth was united in marriage to James R. Paxton in the First Baptist Church in North Platte. They resided there until 1958 when they moved to their present home in Sidney.
Beth was very active in youth organizations, Cub Scout Den Mother, Boy Scout Leader, Scout Camp, Band Parents, Art Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, United Methodist Woman and loved to sew and travel with her husband.
Survivors include her husband Jim; four sons, Robert of Monroe, N.C., Kendall of Hanna, Wyo., Donald and wife Joni of Sidney and Randall and wife Patty of North Platte; two brothers, Phillip of North Platte and Gary of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Edward, Lyle and Ronald and one sister, Wauneta.

Francis Lebaron Goodwin Jr.
1924-2004
Francis leBaron Goodwin, Jr., 79, of Sidney, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Friday October 8th, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was in the company of his family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 22nd, at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney, Nebraska. Memorial contributions may be made to Sidney Memorial Hospital or First United Methodist Church in Sidney, Nebraska.
leBaron was born November 13, 1924 in Sidney, Nebraska to Francis leBaron Goodwin, Sr. and Ruth (Wyant) Goodwin. He grew up and attended school in Sidney, where he graduated in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving as captain in the infantry division during W.W.II and the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. On June 20, 1948, he was married to Joanne L. Ackerman in Sidney, Nebraska.
After leBaron returned from the military, he began farming and feeding cattle. He was a stockholder and director of Dinklage Feed Yard, Inc. He also began a career in banking with Security First Bank, formerly Sidney National Bank, in 1969 where he continued until retiring as Vice President in 1987.
leBaron was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sidney where he served, among other positions, as Trustee. He was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity at the University of Nebraska, a member of the Sidney Rotary Club, Frank Welch Masonic Lodge #75, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #1894 and the American Legion Post #17 for fifty-plus years. He served as chairman of the board at Sidney Memorial Hospital, Sidney Federal Savings and Loan, and was also a board member of Security First Bank.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors especially duck and pheasant hunting, fishing, and golfing. But his real joy came from spending time with his family and friends.
leBaron was preceded in death by his mother and father and his three sisters, Maxine, Frances, and Geraldine.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Joanne L Goodwin of Sidney, and three children, son Francis leBaron Goodwin III and wife Karen of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter Gayle Maxon-Edgerton and husband Dr. Philip Edgerton of Santa Fe, N.M.; son Robert P. Goodwin and wife Diana of Sidney, Nebraska; and one sister Helen Hood-Mitts of Coolidge, Arizona. leBaron has five grandchildren, Christopher P. Goodwin, Jamie L. Andersen, Matthew L. Maxon, Ashley A. Goodwin, Zachariah L. Goodwin, one great-grandson Kaden C. Andersen, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
leBaron was cremated on October 9th in Sioux City, Iowa. His final resting place is in the loving arms of his family.

Pablo G. ‘Paul’ Guerra 1928-2004

Pablo G. ‘Paul’ Guerra, 76, a longtime Sidney resident, died at Chambersburg, Pa. on Thursday July 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29 at St. Patrick’s Church in Sidney with Fr. Jim Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials are to the family’s choice.
Pablo G. Guerra was born June 10, 1928 in Benjamin, Texas, the son of Joe and Marianna (Gutierrez) Guerra. Paul resided in Ft. Worth, Texas, Sterling, Colo. and moved to Sidney in 1971. On July 4, 2004 he and his wife Nellie moved to Chambersburg, Pa.
Survivors include his wife Nellie of Chambersburg, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Packlain of Santa Rosa, Calif.; stepsons, Margarito Ochoa and wife Sharon of Chambersburg, Pa., Louis and wife Mary Ochoa of Winchester, Va.; stepdaughters, Josephine and husband Donald Estrada of Omaha, Virginia and husband Doug Nielsen of Crete, Neb., Linda and husband Angel Ybarra of Lincoln and Connie and husband Ed Carrillo of Sidney; 22 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; sisters, Luisa Ramirez and Elvira Jimenez both of Ft. Worth, Texas, Viviana Pena of El Paso, Texas, Guadalupe Guerra of Ft. Worth, Tomasa Guzman and husband Jose of Ft. Worth, Rosie Rodriguez and husband Fred of Ft. Worth and sister-in-law Paula Guerra of Ft. Worth; brothers, Estanislado Reyes, Thomas and wife Ruth Guerra and Alfredo Guerra all of Ft. Worth.
He was preceded in death by one son Paul Guerra Jr., his parents, brothers Luis, Robert and Richard Guerra and one sister Angela Benavidez.
Gehrig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Barbara Joan Armbruster 1942-2004

Barbara Joan Armbruster, 62, a life-time resident of Big Springs, Neb., died Saturday, March 20, 2004. Her funeral will be today at 10:30 a.m. at the Austin Funeral Home Chapel in Julesburg, Colo. with Rev. Chris Wadle officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Spring Cemetery.
Austin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made in Barbara’s memory in c/o the Security First Bank, 1205 Jackson St., Sidney, NE 69162.
Barbara was born March 19, 1942 in Omaha, Neb., to Marie and Wayne Wendt, and was later adopted by George and Lillian Zimmerman.
She married Gerald Armbruster on Feb. 28, 1959 in Julesburg. To this union four children were born.
Barbara worked most of her life as a waitress in various restaurants, until ill health forced her to retire. Most recently at Grandma Max’s in Big Springs, she was honored as Employee of the Month.
Barbara enjoyed doing many different types of crafts, working in her yard, planting flowers and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her four children, Cindy and husband Kevin Tritt of Sidney, Mike and fiancé’ Marjual Armbruster of Oregon, Doug and wife Julie Armbruster of Gurley and Vickie and husband Billy Nightingale of Sidney; four sisters, Judy Spradling, Mary Wendt and Shirley Wendt, all of Oregon and Donna Rade of Las Vegas, Nev.; six brothers, Darrell Zimmerman of Julesburg, Steve Zimmerman of Indiana, Ken Wendt, Bill Wendt and Don Wendt, all of Oregon and Bob Wendt of Nevada; 13 grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald on March 16, 2003; adoptive parents, George and Lillian Zimmerman; birth parents, Marie and Wayne Wendt; in-laws, Ray and Lillia Armbruster; brothers, Dean Wendt and Larry Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Colleen Wendt and two grandchildren, Douglas Jr. and Kayla Armbruster.

Kenneth Dee Kirby 1937-2004

Kenneth Dee Kirby, 67, Iliff, Colo., died Friday, March 26, 2004 in Iliff following a lengthy illness. A family service will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Tennant Funeral Home in Sterling, Colo. with Rev. Scott Gentry officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be made to the Kenneth D. Kirby Memorial Fund in c/o the Kirby family, P.O. Box 262, Iliff, CO 80736.
Kenneth was born March 20, 1937 in Warsaw, Mo., the son of Albert and Goldie Bonner Kirby. He attended school in Warsaw, moving with his parents to Sterling in 1953.
He married Faye Marie Hager on April 17, 1955 in Sterling.
Kenneth worked as a roustabout and foreman in the oil industry for O’Neil Tank, Z & S Construction and other companies throughout Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming. With his wife, he founded K & F Trucking in the mid 1990s hauling commodities until disability forced Kenneth to retire in 1996.
The couple returned to Logan County in 1998 purchasing land for a home in Iliff where Kenneth resided until his death.
His hobbies included iron works, aviation, motorcycles and camping and boating. Kenneth loved people and enjoy both telling and hearing a good joke or story.
Survivors include his wife, Faye of Iliff; son, Rick and wife Carla Kirby of Kimball, Neb.; daughters, Teresa and husband Dennis Bradford of Deertrail, Colo., Vicky and husband Elmer Todd of Fayetteville, N.C. and Lisa and husband Jim Todd of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Kirby of Kimball.

Kent L. Johnson 1948-2004

Kent Johnson, 55, a rural Potter resident, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at his home south of Potter. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Potter United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Davis and Pastor Mary Frohs officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery.
Friends may call the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to sign the register book.
A memorial has been established.
Kent Leon Johnson was born July 27, 1948 in Sidney, the son of Warren and Margaret (Lipke) Johnson. He attended Potter Public Schools, graduating in May of 1966. Kent then attended the Denver Automotive Institute where he received a mechanic certificate. He also attended Vo-Tech, studying airframe and power plant as an airplane mechanic.
On May 20, 1966, Kent married Geraldine Mathewson in Potter.
In July of 1969, the family moved to Wray, Colo. and in 1970 Kent went to work at Larabee Motors. They moved to Kimball in 1972 where he worked at J.K. Chevrolet. In 1975, Kent took up farming south of Dix and in 1998 the family moved south of Potter where he lived until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Johnson of Potter; five sons, Rob and wife Lisa Johnson of Sidney, Brad Johnson of Chadron, Neb., Jeff Johnson of Sidney, Jay C. and wife Jackie Johnson of Sutherland, Neb. and Jed Johnson of Potter; his parents, Warren and Margaret Johnson of Sidney; brother, Kris and wife Sadonna Johnson of Sidney; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.C. and Aleata Johnson and Ed and Hattie Lipke and uncles, Gordon Johnson and Wendell Johnson.

Glenna June Davis 1934-2004

Glenna June Davis, 69, Sterling, Colo., died April 3, 2004 in Sterling. Her funeral will be Wednesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling with Rev. Joyce Detoni-Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens north of Sterling.
Chaney-Reager Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is today from noon to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society.
Glenna was born Sept. 21, 1934 in Morrill, Neb., the daughter of Glenn and Marie (Warner) Porter. Glenn later died and Glenna was then adopted at the age of eight by Tom Smith. She attended school in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School in 1952.
Glenna married Melvin Davis on May 6, 1954 in Sidney.
She worked for Allen Mitchek for several years and then was employed by Northeastern Junior College (NJC) from August 1978 to June 1996.
Survivors include her mother, Marie Smith of Sidney; sons, Steve Davis of Sterling and Bruce Davis of St. John, Ind.; brothers, Tim Smith of Sidney and Robert Smith of Kemmerer, Wyo.; sister, Mary Robertson of Sidney; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Davis.
